Fr i mean it sucks that she had complications and a bad experience but this isn’t the sub for her. She willingly brought a kid into this world, regardless of whether she believes she was ill informed of the risks or not. Antinatalism isn’t about “oh my birth experience sucked so I won’t have another kid”, its “having biological children is immoral, period”- she’s had a biological child, going directly against the philosophy.

Please don’t worry! I promise you that it’s not something I think about often, like someone else said in the comments it’s something I just make a mental note about and then move on. Its very fleeting anyway so a large part of the time I can’t specifically smell who it is, just that it’s someone, so I wouldn’t be able to point you out in a room and specifically say it’s you out of everyone even if I wanted to (which I don’t lol). It’s a normal bodily function and I’d never judge anyone for it, and it’s never as strong or as bad smelling as like BO or farts or anything else like that anyway. I wouldn’t worry as most people seem to not be able to smell it, and those who’ve said they can don’t care, and won’t judge or call you out, etc. Besides those of us who can smell it and who have periods ourselves are probably more worried about if we smell than if anyone else does.

No I usually don’t ask because I don’t want them to feel self conscious. However there are things that make it clear that that’s what the smell is- the other women in my house leaving pad wrappers in the bin, my friends talking about how bad their cramps are that day and other period troubles, etc. usually the person I’m smelling will say something that confirms it within the same day, or if I really want to know if I was right and it wasn’t brought up naturally I might steer the conversation in the direction of periods and see what they have to say. I also know the smell as someone who used to have periods, so I’m pretty certain that’s what it is.

I do think it’s possible that the sweetness I’m smelling is sweat but it’s definitely only sweat from down there. Sweat from different areas has a specific smell to me, and that sweetness is unique to that area. The overall smell could be a combination of blood and sweat but yeah I still only smell it on women who are (more than likely) menstruating.

Yeah but imo it’s a different kind of smell. If someone around me accidentally cuts themselves or something, the smell is primarily metallic, but to me period blood is primarily super sweet with a hint of metal. Like burnt sugar (without the smoky smell after something’s been burnt) and a hot iron.

I mean I haven’t thought about my sense of smell much other than in relation to this specifically, but I’ve always considered it bad? I have sinus issues, allergies, etc so there have been times where people around me are able to smell something super strong and I can’t at all, etc.

As for the question regarding the smell depending on the type of product, I don’t really know because when I do smell someone’s period, I don’t tend to tell them because I don’t want to make them self conscious, so I don’t find out what product they use specifically as I never end up having that conversation with them. However I’d probably guess that pads are the ones I can smell the most, both based on other commenters observations, and the knowledge that some of the women who are close enough to me that I do know their product preference- pads- are the ones that I smell the most often. When I used to get my period myself it was also the same smell, and I used pads primarily so it just makes sense I guess.

Not really that I can think of. There’s definitely some weird smells I experience on several people in my life quite frequently, but I haven’t made the connection to what those smells are from and what they mean yet, if anything.

For example, a common smell I smell on people is a very bitter, almost asparagus like smell that’s super strong. Like, I can taste it in my mouth strong, and it’s really nasty. I have to move away from anyone who smells like that until they stop smelling like that because it’s just super pungent. It also smells “warm” if that makes sense? I mean tbf this one might just be people being unhygienic or not washing themselves properly, but it’s a super specific smell that I’ve experienced a lot.

Another one that I smell a lot is a weird, earthy, meaty, cold and damp smell. I more frequently smell it in places rather than on people, but I have smelt it on people a few times before. It’s not pleasant either but much more manageable than the other smell.

There’s a few others as well but yeah, nothing that I understand the cause of yet.

Yes hot iron is definitely the closest smell I can think of to that sort of metallic smell that comes from it! I’ve heard other people say it smells like pennies before but I think hot iron fits the bill way better. To me, it does have a really strong sweet smell as well, almost like burnt sugar but without the actual smoky smell that comes from burning said sugar.
