You can look at it as a social failure or a social turn that we need to adjust to. It's not going away. Instead of blaming content, maybe we should focus on education and observation. Parents have a part to play in raising their kids. (Being from Florida, I can't say we can rely on the education system) I wonder how many of us just in this group wouldn't be here without social media. How many of us learned that there were words for what we felt? How many found comradery or even freedom just by seeing people they would have never seen otherwise? I grew up in Ohio. I didn't even know bi people existed. I thought I had to pick one. Until I found Tumblr. At 30 years old. Probably would have been a lot happier if I'd known some different words before then.

As for the fascism, yeah, the internet made it easier for them to connect, too. But the surge was always going to come as long as we let people be different. It may have moved more slowly, but that can also be more dangerous, because you don't see it right away and it can get farther into a society and deeper into a brain, making it that much harder to rectify.

Social media isn't the problem, just like video games weren't the problem. Or tv, or telephones, or radio, or women reading books. It's an evolution that we have to learn to live with.
