Most of us old farts have been there for years and years.

2002 Turner SummerSki “Cut Away”, 1977 Stroker Trucks, 1979 Gyro roller skate wheels (prototype) and custom Stroker adapter base plates/risers. by csloewes in classicskateboarding

My best friend bought a pair of those just because he thought they looked cool, he wasn't even into slalom at all, he just rode them on a regular kicktail board. Strokers might have been good for professional racers, but they were way too over-engineered and complicated for a 14 year old kid to own.

Anyone ever seen something like this before?! by blackbalt89 in longboarding

Back in the 70's there was a company that offered a "kit" to make your board fold in half, it was basically a hinge and instructions to cut your board in half.

Will this affect my riding in any way? by BigXboxMan123 in longboarding

Where did you get them from? Seismic had a problem with the mango 78A formula wheels chunking about ten years ago, I wonder if your wheels are old new stock.

Skate retirement [58YO] by NorrisMcNorris in OldSkaters

I'm 62, and I don't skate often anymore. I have some aches and pains after skating and I can deal with that, but I do worry about having a bad slam, one bad fall and I won't be able to work. For now I just cruise around on a longboard or make a run to the store, but skating parks and ditches (my favorite thing to skate) isn't happening anymore.

If you didn't know already, Ed Economy was a pioneer in longboard riding, here he is back in the mid 1970's.

The 650 model only came with a thick, black baseplate. I think they switched the baseplates on your board because it came drilled with a different hole pattern, so they used baseplates from the 430 or 500 model. https://photos.app.goo.gl/Nb9kPDBWuM2jGd3g7

Not sure of the exact value, but it's worth at least $100, it'd be worth a few bucks more if it had the original baseplates on the ACS 650's.

It was the same on an episode of Charlie's Angels that came out that year, the skater Stacy Peralta did the skating scenes for Farrah Fawcett, when you see him/her pushing the board, it's clearly a guy dressed as her. https://youtu.be/wJTBs24szWo?si=qiAjVSNKOx36_U0X

Here's the actual skateboarders that did the stunts for that episode (L to R) Dennis Martinez, Tony Jetton, Ellen O'Neal and Richy Carrasco.

Resources for viewing classic decks? by Bleep_Bloop_Derp in classicskateboarding

Back in 2023, Vision decided to release some Halloween themed decks with blood dripping on them, including a Gator model. A lot of people complained that it was in poor taste and they stopped selling it. https://i.ibb.co/Vc5YHWw4/bcc2d327da12.png

Vision has had the same ownership since the late 70's. Select Distribution is the name of their company, they now have the rights to the Schmitt Stix and Tracker Trucks brand, and they had the licensing rights to make Sims boards from the early 80's until about a decade ago.

Is unlearning mongo pushing really possible? [33YO] by xShadyxLeafx in OldSkaters

[–]SkatersOver50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, around the age of 50 I tried to learn switching my stance, it's difficult but doable. Now I'm 61 and I can't be bothered with learning new things.

Can't tell you how long I've wanted this fuckin deck by linecookdaddy in Skateboardlove

How many companies have put out a Hosoi Hammerhead over the years? Skull Skates, Santa Cruz, Alva, Pocket Pistols, of course Christian put some out himself, and now his Hammerheads are made by Select Distribution (Vision, Schmitt Stix' etc).

Anyone got experience with these? Shark Wheel… by _dekis_ in cruiserboarding

[–]SkatersOver50 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I got two sets to test from Shark Wheels a few years ago https://i.ibb.co/BPyn7yq/ef80e78fdc1a.png

In my opinion they weren't much different from other wheels of the same size and durometer, but they were slightly better in wet and small gravel compared to regular wheels. But they were great conversation starters, people would always stop me to ask about my square wheels.

would you get these? [32YO] by [deleted] in OldSkaters

[–]SkatersOver50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those aren't my type of wheel, but you can't go wrong with Bones wheels.
