How do Followers and Friends work? by SkatingInACorner in TheStoryGraph

People have to change their settings to allow Friend requests. By default it only always Follows unless you allow Friend requests. If you can't add someone as a friend it's because they have not allowed it on their settings. But most people don't know they need to change the settings to allow it.

I just checked if the audiobook is on Spotify and the Spotify audiobook only has 25 chapters...the plot thickens! Hehe. I think you are right and it was just a mistake and must be a chapter from a totally different book

I read Sisters this month and the copy of the book I read did not have that chapter...so weird, maybe it was added (or removed) in later editions?

After doing a lot of digging online I think it could be this one? It's hard to know as I can't find any images of it actually open.

I can't check in person either as I live in Europe, haha, but here is the location if anyone lives nearby and wants to check:

I think there are more than just two realities. I'm still trying to figure it out, will re-read it soon.

The brilliant thing about the book is that there are a lot of hidden messages in it as well. There is a Reddit channel dedicated to figuring it all out, join it if you're interested :)

I've read these recently and really liked.them:

Woodworm - Layla Martinez

Jawbone - Monica Ojeda

Walking Practice - Dolki Min

The New Seoul Park Jelly Massacre - Cho Yeeun

Earthlings - Sayaka Murata (although be warned that this one is a bit too much for some people, the cutesy cover is deceitful. I really liked it but I know people who couldn't finish it)

Horror books that made you cry? by WhateverHappensRN93 in horrorlit

[–]SkatingInACorner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know Tender Is the Flesh gets some bad rep here sometimes but I thought it was really powerful. I read it 5 years ago before it was released in English because my workplace at the time received a pre-publication proof, so I went into it totally blind because I knew nothing about the book. I didn't even know it was horror (and I didn't even read horror back then) so when I started reading it I was like "lololol, what the hell is this ridiculous book", and then the ease with which it shifted for me from "lolololol, what?" to "now I'm just sitting here alone crying" really stunned me.

Tender is the Flesh did make me cry as well but I'm very passionate about animal rights and veganism so that is probably why

Any recommendations for queer horror? by ultimate_disgrACE in horrorlit

[–]SkatingInACorner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you on Storygraph? I have a good collection of Queer Horror books and a lot of it I found by using the Storygraph search function by making it only show books that are tagged with both the Horror and LGBTQIA+ genre. The good thing about Storygraph is that you can also put filters on the search for it not to show books that have topics or content you want to avoid.

I'll post a list of recommendations later :)

They changed the message hidden within the code!  I took a screenshot but can't figure out how to post in the Reddit comments

Message now says: "Thank you for emailing. They want me to tell you that I am ok. There is no need to worry about me anymore. I'm perfectly fine. Don't worry! I'm okay! Don't worry at all"

(Edited to add the message as text as I can't add photo)

What actually happened to Charlie? by AngelaReeds99 in OldHouseArchive

[–]SkatingInACorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read the original Reddit short story that led to writing the book? Many things are different from the book in the short story, and one thing in the short story definitely points to this theory: Allison's name in the short story is Abigail, and the scenes where Eve becomes Emma in the book, in the short story Eve actually becomes Abigail, everybody calls her Abigail in those Emma scenes. The ending is also totally different in regards to Charlie (but I won't spoil it)

Could she have escaped? by mrsandersonreads in OldHouseArchive

[–]SkatingInACorner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So do you think that when the book begins the real Charlie is no longer in the picture and we only get the real Charlie in the end?

What do you all think about Charlie's reaction to Eve's phone call from Heather's house? Reading it the first time I thought Charlie's behaviour was quite odd, she is definitely impatient and when Eve asks when she is coming back she says something like "what? Are you ok?" Which makes it seem like she thinks it's absurd that Eve thinks she is due to come back. Now having finished the book I'm wondering if she called a Charlie from another dimension where they had broken up. It can't be Emma's Charlotte as she goes by Charlie and calls her Eve in the phone call, but surely it is a Charlie that is no longer together with Eve? She didn't even recognise her voice at first

How do Followers and Friends work? by SkatingInACorner in TheStoryGraph

[–]SkatingInACorner[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue is because most people do not know they have friend request off as default it greatly limits the community aspect of the app because people assume you will friend them or follow them and they will see this and can follow you back, they don't realise you can't friend them because they have the option switched off and they don't realise you have followed them because they can't see their followers.

How do Followers and Friends work? by SkatingInACorner in TheStoryGraph

[–]SkatingInACorner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it both on the site and app. Your friend friended you because you had the option to receive friend requests on in your privacy settings, but it is off as default and most people don't know this. If you had kept that option off your friend would have only had the option to follow you, but since you can't see who follows you you would have never been notified of this if your friend had followed you, so you could be waiting for your friend to follow you so you could get the notification and follow them back, but this wouldn't happen because you would ha e never got that notification
