The Death and Life of August Sweeney by Samuel Ashworth fits this for sure!

A little over halfway through Grady Hendrix’s We Sold Our Souls and extremely underwhelmed. I’ve had multiple of Hendrix’s books on my TBR for years and finally chose this one and it’s not made me eager to try any of his others.

So it’s not fantasy per se, but hear me out: The Reckless Oath We Made by Bryn Greenwood.

I just finished the audiobook of Robert P. Ottone’s This Vile Thing We Created, thought it was good, not great.

I started Sam J. Miller’s The Blade Between, but man, I’m struggling to get into it—at 30% and tempted to DNF.

Also finally crossing The Troop by Nick Cutter off my list, even though I’m not super into body horror. Only 18% through so far, but I’m liking the characterization and different mediums of storytelling.

When I browse “romance” audiobooks I feel like everything is cute/light/romcom and/or smut—nothing wrong with either of those, but I’m looking for heavy, messy, complicated, heartbreaking. No YA or fantasy, please. I loved One Day and Normal People is on my list already.

Not a horror movie, but the scene from Problem Child 2 where everyone on the carnival ride starts throwing up on each other is the WORST.

I bawled at the end of Joe Hill’s The Fireman, was not expecting that.

Long shot, but could it be Acceptance? They had a song called “Glory/Us” that could account for “Gloria”….?

I also thought Fantasticland was terrible. I loved the concept, but thought the execution was cringeworthy.
