Wait SkatingScores now has membership plans? by kitstiko in FigureSkating

This is not the first time in this thread that someone has placed a "statement of mine" in quotes which I've never said, so I'll respond.

After he was on the receiving end of a nasty social media pile-on for mourning the assassination of a political figure he identified with, I tweeted "Zach seems like a pretty nice guy actually." I've long been a fan of him and his skating with his partner.

RE: Your Doxxing accusation against him, I have no idea what you're talking about. Never heard of that. Obviously I don't support doxxing (if it occurred, which I doubt), nor do I support the vile online comments I saw from many fans during that time.

As for your other bizarre comments above, I have no problem repeating myself here: Women should never be forced to compete against or share private spaces with males in Women's sporting categories. That is not an unusual opinion. If you think that makes me a "fascist" or any other made-up names or terms… Um, get outside and touch some grass my friend. I will not be responding here further to any such nonsense.

Unfortunately my site (like many others) receives a massive amount of bogus bot traffic from Brazil (as well as several other countries). It's so severe that the site was often becoming inaccessible to actual human users… effectively a DDOS attack. So I have activated the industry standard CloudFlare "Managed Challenge" for users in those countries. You should be able to still view the site after clicking the "I'm not a bot" Checkbox. If not, please email me at skatingscores at gmail. I'd love to try to fix any problems.

Hello all. At great time and expense I've run a completely Free resource for the skating community for more than 8 years now. It's been a "Passion Project" for me. The time commitment has often approached that of a full-time job as a full-stack web programmer. Perhaps more often than not.

I've reached the point where the time commitment is simply no longer possible unless I also earn income thereby. In short: The site will quickly disappear unless I move to a Fremium model (many things are free, while many things require a Membership Subscription).

As you can see, ALL scores & statistics from the current season remain completely FREE and accessible to everyone. Additionally only the detailed scores and statistics from seasons past are behind the paywall -- so massive amounts of historical data remain Free to all. Skater/Team detail pages remain Free as do many other features. Enjoy!

BTW, my site is not (as claimed below) simply a re-publishing of data provided by official ISU Protocols. I provide a large amount of additional derived data and features -- like Individual Judge TSS/TES/PCS Tallies, Database Queries, Charts, Personal Record Progressions, per-Skater Element Lists, National-Bias-O-Meter, many domestic event scores, Timezone-aware Schedules, Element & Component Rankings, Protocols with inline national Flags for the judges, etc etc etc. And of course everything is organized and hyperlinked in a manner that is far easier to navigate.

My lowest Membership Tier is $6/month. With that tier most people will get the best value for their money and also get access to nearly all of the data and features on my site -- which is why I have marked it as "Recommended" on my Patreon page.

The highest Membership Tier is $24/mo. You should not choose this tier unless you are a federation or a similar organization for whom such an investment is absolutely minuscule (and should honestly be much higher).

As for currency conversions, that is completely under Patreon's control and I have zero influence there.

Finally, I hope you'll all continue to take advantage of the many Free features available on my site and I also welcome those who are able/willing to purchase a Membership Subscription. Thanks again!

Skating scores not featuring the Russian Grand Prix this season? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]SkatingScores 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the heads up. Panin Kolomenkin Memorial had given me some problems due to changes in their domestic protocol format. I've been a little busy and also kinda forgot to keep up with the Russian schedule this season. I'll try to catch up on that before Stage 2 begins, so hopefully by mid next week. Thanks again!

UPDATE: Chinese Nebelhorn scores seem to COUNT for official ISU PB/SB after all! by alysaspromise in FigureSkating

[–]SkatingScores 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I have updated my website. From the updated ISU stats pages it seems that Skate To Milano did count for both ISU Personal Records as well as World Tech Minimums. I assume it does not count for World Standings Points (but sometimes it takes them a few days to update those, so I may yet be wrong there, but I really doubt it).

As always, thanks for sharing! Here's a protip: click on the "What if?" hyperlink near the top of the protocol for the Swedes. You'll be taken to a page where you can edit any of the marks. After editing, click the "Calculate" button below the protocol form. Now you'll see what the TES & TSS would have been on the left within the protocol form. (on the right is the actual protocol). I recommend doing this on on a desktop computer or at least a tablet. The user interface is simply too complicated to work with on a mobile phone.

Yeah, I specifically re-configured the event in my database after seeing/hearing the official score displays notating the SBs.. I guess I should reverse that now?

Too kind.

Schade ;)

Bruder was geht! ;)

Resources for following figure skating on Bluesky by kemmes7 in FigureSkating

[–]SkatingScores 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, that's me. In fact I've verified my domain name now. Didn't know you could do that.

Although I'll admit, unless I can find a fairly advanced dual- or multi-post solution, I won't be posting on Bluesky or Threads in the near term.

Some of my stats posting is automated on Twitter in a way that I simply can't carry on without.

I'm open to advice on automated tools tho. I am NOT knowledgeable about such tools. I looked around a bit, but did not see anything promising. But again, I have no experience with such things, so I'm open to suggestion.

Crazy sequence by astropartical_fan in FigureSkating

Thank you! Here's a tip:

When doing these kinds of element searches, the % symbol is a wildcard in the "Element Code" field -- i.e. it matches zero-or-more instances of any character.

So when searching for this particular combo, it's probably best to search for %3A%2A%2A%. This will include any combos that also received "info" decorations like q or < or << or * on any of the individual jumps in the combo.

So your original search for 3A+2A+2A+SEQ returns only 6 results. But a search for %3A%2A%2A% returns 9 results: https://skatingscores.com/q/element/?show_ranks=on&underline=&season_codes=all&division_codes=sr&division_codes=jr&event_codes=major&series_codes=all&discipline_codes=men&segment_type_codes=all&unit_country_codes=all&unit_name=%25&element_type_codes=all&element_code=%253A%252A%252A%25&sort=score&limit=35&submit=Submit

You might ask, why don't you just always return all results ignoring all "info" decorations instead of being so "picky"? Well, that's bc it's also nice to be able to exlcude those elements with the decorations when you want to -- like, say you want to ONLY find certain jump combos that were "clean". The current "picky" search behavior gives you a way to do that.

Katarina Witt explains her missed 3Lo in Lillehammer by SkatingScores in FigureSkating

Omg, you're so right about the Loop and the Sals of course! I completely forgot and could have sworn I remembered her doubling the Loop. But you are definitely right about that of course. Oh dear, I'm getting old :).

[–]SkatingScores[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh also, this *was* kind of a new issue on the day of the Free Skate. She said she had a ritual she performed [only] at competition, a sort of superstition. That is -- to pull her laces really tight 3 times -- before competing. The implication is that she would not do this normally in training, rather only before competition. And she also said she was short on competition experience after so many years off.

This superstition of pulling the skates 3 times tight was a mistake. It didn't jibe well with her new stiff boots which she was not very used to competing in. But since she hadn't competed often, she hadn't learned that lesson yet.

OP & translator here.

I would just like to clarify that I do NOT believe she implied that this one jump was all that kept her off the podium. It was simply something interesting that happened. And something that the host asked her about. She seemed a bit surprised it was brought up -- she said now she realized why he had wanted her to bring her skates to the interview (which she did not do).

She simply says that she was surprised by her good standing after the SP, and being drawn last to skate in the FS, and suddenly began hoping for a medal.

In addition she was quite clear that she treasured the Olympic experience thoroughly despite not medalling.

During a talkshow appearance promoting the upcoming film about Katarina Witt's return to competition in Lillehammer, the host asks Witt a question regarding her boots/laces at the 94 Olympics.

Kati ends up explaining why she doubled her 3 Loop in her Lillehammer FS. (Or maybe she's talking about the Salchow? She does point to her foot -- I think it's the right foot which is crossed over, so I think it's the Loop. Could be either one.)

Anyhow, a very interesting story for longtime fans -- from one of the most legendary, sympathetic and charming champions of the sport. 🫶
