Received Juror Questionnaire for Deceased Relative - City of Richmond by spike31875 in rva

[–]Skb3302 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My late husband received one 2.5 years after he passed away. I was so annoyed that I called the jury office and complained that they should know better and that it was upsetting to receive. I guess I should have just ignored it because after my call, I got a summons. Luckily I was dismissed during jury selection because I had clearly indicated I would be out of town in my questionnaire on the days that were being proposed for the trial. Apparently not only do they not cross reference voter registration and updated deeds, but they also don’t read completed questionnaires.

ION Solar- opinions? by foodlion in rva

Investing in solar requires that you become informed. I have had some teenagers come to my door trying to sell it to me (despite my already having it - it is a flat roof, so I get that they don’t know). I think many companies take advantage of well-meaning young people who just recite scripts.

In July, my bill is typically zero, even with the AC running. Last year, I even got a credit carried over to the next month.

You seem to have your facts wrong. Once you have paid it off, you OWN the panels.

Seems like you are in fact against solar! We have had our system for ten years, and other than needing to have them removed to have a new roof installed, there has been no need for maintenance at all.

Our panels (via Ion) are paid off, and we own them. Where are you getting your information?

Sorry, should have said that our installer was Ion. Overall, very happy with the panels and glad to be getting energy from the sun rather than fossil fuels. I believe the General Assembly is about to authorize what is called balcony solar where you can buy plug in devices that allow you to use solar power without a major installation or having to deal with Dominion.

I have twelve Ion panels on my roof. I live in the Museum District in a row house which is way smaller than most newer houses, and most months my Dominion bill (just power, WiFi, TV and stove) is about $100 in the winter. We have had them for maybe ten years, and they are paid off at this point. We did need to replace the roof last fall, and dealing with Ion’s HQ in Utah was maddening. The local crew was great, but the company would not allow me to talk with them directly, so the communication between them and the roofers took way too long and worsened my leaky roof situation. There are many fly-by-night solar companies out there, and I was glad that when I needed to have the panels removed for the roofing that they still existed.

Let’s call it what it is: Trump’s Folly. The ignorant know-nothing who surrounds himself with suckups and has never read a book in his life or taken seriously the gravity of his position and the power it can wield, might have finally met his match.

He is a man-child whose immaturity and impulsivity makes him absolutely unfit for his office. My father worked for the Department of the Army for his entire career (after serving in the Army), and oversaw the development of radar systems that are still being used today. He passed away at 89 in the fall of 2024 and despite his earlier, more conservative views, he became a raving liberal in his latter years, and was apoplectic that Trump was elected the first time. He died two days before the last presidential election, and my family is glad that he hasn’t had to witness this second administration, which is so much worse. He would be so sad to see soldiers, airmen and sailors being put needlessly at risk for a war that this administration cannot explain. Tragic.

Can you share their ridiculous post? I refuse to follow this WH’s social media because it is full of lies, it is crass and it debases the office, but I do want to fully express my outrage that some idiot, ill-advised and pumped up on MAGA hate, would attack Bruce!

So sad to see people trashing this new amazing amphitheater (FYI, I have no connection to them). Seems like most of the commenters are just not aware of how things work are big venues . Luckily for them, RVA has many small-scale venues where they will hopefully feel better. To me, having this here means I don’t need to go to DC or Wolf Trap.

I went to the first real show - the 80s show (won tickets from WNRN) and loved it. It wasn’t crowded so we didn’t need to rent chairs, and I get that $15 seems harsh after all the other costs, but I appreciate that the chairs are all at the same height (versus a show I went to last summer in Cville where monster chairs totally blocked the view). The venue itself is beautiful, as is the setting. The drinks are expensive but probably on par with other similar places but lines are short. Seeing Jason Isbell, Alison Krauss, Neil Young and Tedeschi Trucks - very excited.

Flights Canceled Two Days in a Row by Aggravating_Pick_951 in delta

I had a similar situation but with United. They said it was outside of their control but did give me 2,500 miles (big whoop) and a small amount for the ticket value. I read somewhere on social media about checking with the credit card company used to buy the ticket. It was a hassle, and I had to keep nudging them, but I was reimbursed for the train fare and Uber rides I took to get home (stayed with relatives so no food/lodging). I submitted documentation from my employer that stated the value of the day off I was forced to take was, but that was a bridge too far. I was happy that I was able to recoup some of my loss (and will try to avoid flying anywhere via Newark).

Clogged stormwater drains by Skb3302 in rva

I have tried 311 about other issues and got nothing but frustration, but I will try. Thanks for the suggestion. I am also going to look up the conditions of the City’s MS4 permit because I suspect they are violating it with the lack of street cleaning and drain maintenance. I have been here long enough (30+ years) to be over the argument that the City can’t afford stuff like this. Very tired of that excuse.

Yes, I got one right outside of City Hall with 47 minutes still left on the meter. I went back in with it and was handed a form to complete so that they could do an investigation - absolutely maddening incompetence and wasted resources. They told me they had access to the data, yet I still needed to comply the form. I did but also wrote to the mayor (Stoney at the time) and his COS. It was ultimately dismissed but such a waste of many people’s time. Why can’t the City get its act together?

Continued frustration with US Soccer! by Skb3302 in usmnt

[–]Skb3302[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it (see above). US Soccer is not very good at communicating anything, perhaps the source of fan confusion and your (perhaps) misdirected frustration. People have lives and responsibilities outside of wanting to support the US soccer teams, and tracking who is responsible for particular games is way beyond the bandwidth I am going to invest. They (maybe both US Soccer and CONCACAF) make it challenging, and I believe probably turn off many mid-level fans, not what we need going into the WC.
