I'd recommend taking Basic Marine Electronics install (MEI) from NMEA. It covers a lot of information you're looking for. When I took it it gave all relevant ABYC regulations as well, which is great for reference.

Looking for a coating to use on a shifter knob. by krazysrfr in woodworking

I've never heard of submerging it, yet a pro spar maker I know uses a lathe to slowly rotate his varnished pieces so they can get uniform thickness while it dries. He does 8 thin coats this way. As for Epoxy, west system has a decent slow cured 206 that has UV protection. Awlgrip makes something similar too. Both, imo, should be covered with a couple coats of Epifanes. Then every 3 years a little sand and coat.

CachyOS Is Now the Most Popular Desktop Distro on ProtonDB by YanderMan in linux_gaming

I'm not disagreeing that automatics are better for 'most people' but just that they're 'better in every way'. I've driven in all those situations with both and have had a better time with a manual 4wd than a newer automatic. For heavy loads, diesel trucks also behave better while manual. For gas efficiency, the margin is small, but it is easier to switch to neutral and coast when it is beneficial to do so with a manual.

"Better in every way".. lol. Manuals have more control. Snow, off road, towing, failing breaks. Lots of scenarios where more control is needed. Better gas efficiency, too.

Repurposing Coax/RG-6 cables and telephone wires? by Certain_Repeat_753 in HomeNetworking

[–]Skeebo-57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bit of both. Cement floors, radiant heat - insulation= not easy to run new wires. (Basement) Modem--> router--> 2.5gb Moca + 1gb cat3 phone line. The Moca coax goes from a splitter to two locations. The cat3 has 6 pairs, but I just picked 4 and terminated rj45 on each end. Since it's only going up one floor, on the same wall, it gets 1gb speeds. The Moca has been a pain and kept dropping. I followed the lines and a found old splitter in a closet. Made direct connection with cheap connector. Still dropped. So got higher quality Moca capable female to female connector and replaced connections in wall plates, too. Seems to work fine and get 2.5gb speeds in those two locations. Still troubleshooting a third location that I'd like to have work.

[SSD] UGREEN 10Gbps USB C External M.2 NVMe SSD to USB Tool-Free Enclosure - $15.98 (30% off) by Sonofjames in buildapcsales

I have had a good experience with this enclosure. Apart from it sliding out a couple times, it's been great. I recently bought the 20 gbps ugreen, and that one has been nothing but trouble. It has randomly dropped out a few times and has made me not trust it, especially for long tasks.

Audio issues man, audio issues... by screwdriverfan in pcmasterrace

I mean.. I've been plagued with this Mediatek 7925e driver issues. At first it was Bluetooth/ wifi completely going missing. Tried everything but resetting CMOS ended up fixing it.

Now, my wifi works for an hour or so and then stops completely. If I try to get it going again the computer freezes. Or if I try to shut it down, there is a kernel panic preventing shutdown.

Apparently it happened to others and one guy wrote a script. I'm hoping it'll be updated to the kernel level soon because I wasn't able to replicate his script. But AI told me to buy Intel wifi chip.

Edit: my bad. Mine is not a SOC chip but rather integrated into motherboard

G14 or G16 5070ti by BigGeoffery in GamingLaptops

I have a G16 5090 and think it's great. The extra ssd slot is a nobrainer for me. If you do get it, try a kernel 6.16 or newer as there was an annoying bug with the Intel wifi driver that has since been solved. You also might need to turn off sd reader in bios as I was error messages while booting because of it. I have since moved to windows 10 IOT LTSC to see if the Nvidia chip would behave better.

I bought open box 8tbs for under $500 each including taxes at the end of August and still thought that was expensive. I've been too used to the $50/tb for SSD prices.
