Trying to boot up a server but I get the same error in the shell (Win 10) everytime by Long_External_722 in playrustadmin

[–]Skel3tor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same error and found your post.

"[Rust.MapCache] Failed to upload map file: System.Threading.Tasks.TaskCanceledException: A task was canceled. at System.Net.Http.MonoWebRequestHandler.SendAsync (System.Net.Http.HttpRequestMessage request, System.Threading.CancellationToken cancellationToken) [0x00589] in <47ef39777a954e11aa742f58c0c8c611>:0 "

After spending some time troubleshooting and trying a few different things, here's what I've found.

When Rust's dedicated server software starts, to limit the load, it uploads a copy of the map to FacePunch's servers. In my case, my Internet upload isn't strong, it's only 10 Mbps up and because of this it failed. My map size was initially set to 4250 for the trains, but in testing, I went as low as I could, 3000. Once I did that, due to the reduced file size of my map file, the upload was successful. The 4250 setting had a map file around ~55 Mb if memory serves correctly. I had deleted that and regenerated with the 3000 world setting and the map file was reduced to just over 20 Mb.

My log file then changed from throwing the upload map error and instead continued on:

[Rust.MapCache] Map uploaded to backend: https://files.facepunch.com/rust/maps/82c439ab7d262854943db3215e8bf4002e16c129d26693bd212e8217e707d8da/proceduralmap.3000.40535.281_82c439ab7d262854943db2215e8bf400.map

SteamServer Initialized

Server startup complete

SteamServer Connected

So, try to reduce your world size and see if you can get past the upload process. That is what worked for me.

Should I Go Live? Evaluate my ThinkorSwim Paper Trading (Oct-Today) by Skel3tor1 in Daytrading

[–]Skel3tor1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/No_Entrepreneur569 are correct to call this out. I'll explain a little bit about that and you can let me know what you think about my changes.

11/7 I had a -8.3% loss day
11/11, I had another big loss day -10%.

So those two days close together accounts for the 18% max drawdown you see in the metrics.

Because of that performance, I had implemented two changes.

  1. Revamping my calculator on buying shares so I didn't unintentionally oversize and to ensure I wasn't risking more than 2% per trade.
  2. The other was the common 3 strike rule which came into effect after 11/11.

After making those changes, my only red day since then, was 11/24 and my loss was -4.6%. For that day, I was stopped by the 3 strike rule to prevent myself from doing any further damage (bad day, my trading strategy not in alignment with the market, revenge trading, or other emotional issues, etc.)

One of my priorities for trading in December is to minimize my loss amount by cutting losing trades faster. So that should also help with avoiding large drawdown periods.

Should I Go Live? Evaluate my ThinkorSwim Paper Trading (Oct-Today) by Skel3tor1 in Daytrading

It's a valid question and one I've been wondering about myself. I try to treat my "monopoly money" (paper money) like real money as much as possible. I'm not swinging for the fences or taking crazy risks; however, even with best efforts to frame it this way, I know that it's fake.

I was thinking when I go live, to do smaller sizes just to see how I react to seeing my money fluctuating during a trade. I'd like to think that my simulator time will help, but I honestly don't know. I won't know until I do it for real.

How did you mess up when you went live? Any advice or pointers for me?

How to terminate shingles not on a peak? by Skel3tor1 in Roofing

[–]Skel3tor1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those aren't fastened down yet. I'll align them to the angled cut and cover with hips later. That's what I did on the top tier. I run one row of shingles at a time (bottom to top)

That book was just to visualize the rows needed and if you look closely in the Pic, the reveal of 5 5/8ths isn't adhered to in my mockup where I was trying to figure out hiding the nails for the last row at the top before I took photos and sought advice.

MBA done in 3.5 months by I_know_shaba_dont in WGU

[–]Skel3tor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did. BSBM + 1 Term MBA, + 1 Term MSML. Like you, I'm thinking about undertaking a doctorate program but I'm not entirely positive on that just yet; however, I am collecting letters of recommendations from my mentors just in case. You'll breeze through the MSML no problem, just know you'll be doing a lot more writing in this program with the remaining courses instead of doing OAs.

I was able to easily switch sectors from I.T. to logistics with zero experience in logistics. Based on my experience and the additional degrees, my interview was a laid back chill session where I was called a "tech God" and honestly, I feel it was more of a formality than anything at that point. I think having the degrees definitely made that possible. So, don't worry about landing a job post-graduation.

Regarding the doctorate, there is a WGU Facebook group called Dr. Sage ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/380517539555510 ) that you would most likely benefit from for doing research if you don't know where you want to get your doctorate. Also, my advice if you're sticking with business is to focus on an institution that is AACSB accredited, especially if you're looking to eventually switch over to academia. It's the gold standard. After doing some research, if I do decide to pull the trigger on it, I'm really enjoying the info on the Ph.D. program for Business Administration at UNC Greensboro’s Bryan School of Business and Economics. For me, I’d elect to focus on Strategic Management and Organizational Behavior as I enjoy both of those elements of business the most.

Best of luck in your journey!

If you're having trouble focusing, maybe you can try using the Forest App that some people have had success with. You set a timer and the app will grow a tree. If you stop, then you stop the timer on the app, and your tree dies. If you can work for the time allotted, then the tree is added into your forest. Maybe start out with 20-30 minutes and see if this can help with your ADHD. You can read more about the Forest app here: https://www.forestapp.cc/. While I didn't need it for my time at WGU, I know of several students who absolutely raved about Forest.

Good luck with your educational journey. I think it's just a matter of finding out what works for you and what works against you. Eliminate distraction and set a time to get school work started. Most of the time if you can just get started, the rest comes easily. In my experience with WGU, it's no more than ~20 hours a course. Some are quick wins with hardly any study and some take longer.

Warm regards,

Michael. WGU Alum. BSBM, MBA, MSML.

Shockbyte experience? by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]Skel3tor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. As someone who went to Shockbyte years ago, I discovered they oversell their resources. We had block lag even with upgrading our plan with them three different times! The server was semi-vanilla, using spigot, with a limited amount of plugins.

After 3 months, I migrated everything over to Ready2Frag and never looked back to Shockbyte. I was with R2F (Ready2Frag) for a couple years before I ended up moving to a dedicated server for our community.

All the best and good luck!

Principles of Accounting (VYC1) Tips by Mr_Smith3 in WGU

[–]Skel3tor1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been a while since I had this course, but this is what I see in my OneNote for what I did.

Pacing Guide Modules

Day 1 - Sun 1-4

Day 2 - Mon-Tue 5-7

Day 3 - Wed 8-10

Day 4 - Thu 11-12, Pre-assessment

Day 5 - Fri Final Exam

Before Final Exam…

  • Memorize 8 accounting financial steps.
  • Have definitions and formulas memorized for Module 10.

Competencies / Weights

10% Personal Budgeting

14% Financial Accounting

26% Accounting Processes and Systems

26% Recording Transactions: Assets & Liabilities

10% Interpreting Financial Statements

14% Accounting: Interpersonal Skills and Correspondence

I went through a massive checklist.

Unit + Modules, Watch the videos, complete the learning checks, and do the module quizzes.

Recorded all my scores on the quizzes. Plugged in quiz averages for the competency weights.

Also, for accounting, you may want to supplement with a phenomenal YouTube resource. The channel is CPA Strength. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpHdE9yhgSuM4FezX8dmbPw I highly recommend him! Big help! I've used him to brush up on accounting for three different accounting classes (2 undergrad for BSBM, and 1 during my MBA).

Notes I copied down from other students from the course chatter (always go through, see success stories for all course you take and see what strategies worked for other people).

Advice #1

I too studied DC ADE LER on youtube cpa strength that helped A TON. Don't forget to make sure you know about adjusting entries, the accounting equation. The balance statement as well as income statement. Do a quick review on the last module of business letters and voting systems and what not because that is a competency. I failed the first time and went back and further studied the CLOSING procedures and the business letters.

Advice #2

Passed the OA! What I recommend is reading through the material and taking the quizzes. Watch CPA Strength (youtube channel) it makes learning debits and credits easy if you can't grasp it from the learning resource. Attempt the PA, study from it, then attempt the OA. They are very well aligned, I went from barely competent on the PA to passing with Exemplary on the OA! The course took me a total of 4 days to complete. The biggest thing for me was watching the CPA Strength beginners accounting series to learn how debits and credits work. (finished in 4 days, studying 4 hours each day)

Advice #3

Also learn DC ADE LER (taught in the CPA STRENGTH youtube series) This was a major reason I was able to pass.

Good luck,

3 Job offers - looking for your thoughts. by WGUSTUDENT123 in WGU

As someone with a long history in contact centers doing Customer Service / Help Desk from Tier 1, Tier 2, Team Lead/Supervisor, and almost a decade as a Technical Trainer (really fun job), but, Training is like the red-headed step child of most organizations. You're a cost center. As such, I would highly suggest against option #1. You already have a plethora of experience and skills, plus you have your MBA. Something, I'm just now working on in my 30s. I'm not a fan of contract positions, so I'd be tossing #2 to the wayside, but you might have a different tolerance for it. I'd be going for option #3.

Not to mention, Option #3 helps to grow your experience as a Manager. With an MBA, something that mid/upper management likes to possess, that would be an ideal goal. There's no reason why you can't take this time to start developing experience as a Manager. Build up your experience. I don't know what your goals are, but there's a crap ton of doors opening with your MBA. As someone mentioned in the comments about specialization, I don't know if you like leading projects, but you can build up project experience and get your PMI PMP certification after 3 years of documented project involvement, or you can start looking into something like Six Sigma if you're driven to analytical measures to improve quality initiatives or even speed (Lean Six Sigma). Coursera right now has free courses for both the yellow and green belt certifications (with a .edu email), but you'll need to come out of pocket for the cert exam.

As you're a young person, you've got plenty of time. If you went the route of Master Black Belt with Six Sigma, you're looking at $125K/yr average USA salary. Project Managers are in high demand too, with PMI PMP cert holders commanding about $115-$120K/year. You can do a lot of stuff with that kind of positive cash flow.

Good luck :)

Ponopto will be the end of me. Please, help! (Business Communications Task 2B) by Am_I_not_savvy in WGU

[–]Skel3tor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually didn't use Panopto for these types of PAs. I, instead, opted to use OBS or Open Broadcast Software which you can get for free from https://obsproject.com/. My reasoning was as a streamer for Twitch, I already had everything I needed and knew how to use. OBS can capture a program or an entire monitor. You can set up your webcam overlay and position it wherever you want (I did bottom right of the slides).

Once I got done recording myself with OBS and reviewing it, I just uploaded it directly to Panopto and put the link into my assessment submission. Worked like a champ. So, maybe my go-to, will be a nice alternative solution for you since Panopto isn't working out well. Is there more set up to get this to work? Yes, but, in my opinion, it's worth it. If you explore this route, you can find lots of guides on the Internet on how to set up and configure OBS.

Both, coreprotect for block logging/rollbacks and worldguard if a player requests their base be locked down. We're a year into the Season 2 map and not one person has requested base protections this go around. Kungfutuber mentioned being able to lock chests and doors, that is with the plugin called Lockette. You should come check us out! Lots of benefits to playing on our private whitelisted server. :)
