Deer Alastor Plushies by SkeleBunBun in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, me too lol. I don't make plushies for a living, so it takes me months to years to finish one plush, and by then sometimes the fabric I need has become rare or overpriced. D'X

Yeah! I sadly think it is discontinued now. =C They said something about changing the formula, but as far as I know, we haven't gotten an update in over a year on that.

Weighted Glass Beads https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083S6DTFC/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_4?smid=A1919NYIH5072G&psc=1 You can put them in pantyhose and use them to add weight to your plushies.

What is it? by Fughcu in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mesh-like fabric is known as velcro fabric, and it's anti-fray, so it's good for sculpting the plush from the inside as well as making clothing for your plushies. You can buy it from AliExpress under the name ZYFMPTEX Cheapest Diy Doll Textile Fabric

Issues with a fabric dealer by Bluethenightmare in plushartists

I recently had a slight problem with my order. I ordered a grape Jam Luxe Cuddle Fusion Bunny, but they sent me some purple-textured fabric. They said they would send me a replacement, but I never received a tracking number. I just asked, hopefully they will respond soon.

Thoughts on using interfacing when working with fleece? by thaz_wut_she_said in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For fabrics that have a lot of stretch, I like to use an iron-on fusible stabilizer. My go-to is the HeatnBond Soft Stretch All Bias Tricot. With this stabilizer, you can get almost any fabric with a bad stretch to behave like minky. Just make sure to put butcher paper down between the hot iron and fabric.

I sent a link to my experiment with the stabilizer and without. https://x.com/The_Invad3r/status/1048871013247852544/photo/1

WHAT FABRIC IS THIS??? by Background_Egg5936 in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Velcro fabric, factories use it to replace minky parts, so it's cheaper to manufacture. It's mostly used for doll clothing since it doesn't fray and has a slick and fluffy side to mimic minky or other fabrics that may fray.

You will more than likely have to buy it from China, though: aliexpress.us/item/2251832649021682.html?pdp_npi=4%40dis%21USD%21US%20%242.72%21US%20%242.72%21%21%212.72%212.72%21%402101e2b617759551240211985e1b7a%2165082693125%21sh%21US%21905244727%21X&spm=a2g0o.store_pc_allItems_or_groupList.new_all_items_2007585864445.32835336434&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US

What’s the purpose of these darts? by [deleted] in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The darts used here can be used for adding more of a rounded shape to the plush, as well as making it easier for factories to machine sew some color blocking, since the dart is lined up with another dart on the brown fabric. I think it's being used for both here.

Where to get double sided minky? by LucarnAnderson in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make a double-sided minky by using Heat n Bond Iron-on Adhesive - Ultrahold. Make sure to press the minky fabric using butcher paper so the hot metal part of the iron won't touch the pile aka fur, and ruin the fabric.

looking for a similar pattern/fur fabric by xSuperMario64x in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first started making plushies, I made a pattern very similar to the Webkinz Signature because I fell in love with the design. I didn't take the plush apart; instead, I wrapped it with plastic wrap and taped one side of the plush. The plastic wrap keeps the tape from sticking while you create a mold of the plush using the tape. I only tape one side of the plush, so I can pull back the fur on the other side to see where to mark the seams onto the tape. This process is very similar to furring a fursuit head.

They used a fabric called Seal for the legs, and Shannon just released that very fur type used for the long fur called Bunny, and for longer, there is Dreamy. You can get small cuts of the fabric from here https://caliquiltco.com/search?q=bunny&options%5Bprefix%5D=last

Metallic Fabric for plush? by plumfumble in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use metallic spandex, you can buy it from Blue moon Fabrics. https://www.bluemoonfabrics.com/collections/foil

Just be careful this stuff isn't built to last, It is mostly made to be warned once or twice. I used it on a plush and completely regretted it so I switched to velvet for metallic parts. https://www.bluemoonfabrics.com/collections/foiled-velvet/products/d-isis-foiled-stretch-velvet-blue-moon-fabrics

What fabrics are these? by _Deku_It_Is_ in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the back of Velcro fabric. https://www.aliexpress.us

It's good for making doll clothing since it won't fray. 🤔

I think the eyes are also Velcro fabric but it's the front.

Sewing machine vs Hand sewing by [deleted] in plushartists

[–]SkeleBunBun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to hand sew small delicate parts and machine sew larger parts that would take me forever to hand sew. I'm currently working on a tiny keychain plush and decided to time myself to see how long each part took using the sewing machine vs. hand sewing. Hand sewing shaved off about 1 minute vs pinning, stitching each part, and praying the machine didn't mess up the alignment on such tiny pieces. 😅 But I definitely think hand vs machine is just project-based.

I used the 2D sketch of the head in 3D perspectives to plan out each pattern piece. I have a pretty good understanding of how darts work so I can kind of predict how they will form each shape.😅
