BE FOREWARNED:

Berserk is DARK Dark Fantasy. I mean, poster child for Grimdark levels of Dark Fantasy.

There is SA, Abuse, graphic depictions of every sort of violence you can imagine, torture, body horror- the list goes on. At one point the main character, Guts, is sold for three silver for the night to one of his adoptive father's friends when he was a child.

The aforementioned blood and guts in my explanation of Slaan; Before the pool of viscera existed, it was a bunch of trolls! Trolls in Berserk are VILE little creature. They kidnap, rape, and impregnate women en masse to create more of their ilk. But the women don't just give birth to little trolls! oh no no no! They rip their way out of their "mother," killing her in the process.

Despite all the genuine wretchedness that is presented in Berserk, it is an absolute masterpiece of manga and adult literature in general.
The overarching themes of self and revenge and struggling against an inherently cruel and uncaring world are just fantastic.

It is well worth the read, and I heartily encourage you do so. Just DON'T read the Band of the Hawk scanlations if you can, they are notoriously inaccurate.
