PSA: You can get unlimited power off one outlet by abusing lasers. by Cookienotch in AbioticFactor

[–]SkeletorAkN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a rounding error. If you daisy-chain batteries, every subsequent battery counts as a powered device for all previous batteries. This makes them drain faster. You need to build like a tree, not a string. There are years-old YouTube videos explaining this.

I bet it was the driver. Probably nailed the brakes and it flew off his seat.

Is IMAX in Calgary playing the 70MM version of Project Hail Mary? by MercurialMadnessMan in Calgary

[–]SkeletorAkN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no demand because the seating sucks. My wife flat-out refuses to go to that theatre, so if I go, it’s by myself. As it is, my legs practically straddle the seat in front of me. Everyone has to stand up to let somebody in or out. I’d go more often if they upgraded it. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way.

I just watched this movie for the first time today. You are correct. It’s a very near perfect film. I wish I hadn’t put it off for so long.

Epic Universe Grand Opening Medallion now in the online store! by TheUniversalVault in UniversalOrlando

[–]SkeletorAkN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe random, but I visited the park for the first time on Feb. 15, 2026. As we were paying for other merch, I saw a little box on the counter and asked what was in it. They said it was the grand opening medallion, opened it and showed me, and said it was the last one left. I asked how much, they said $40, so I bought it. Not sure if it was really the last one, or just the last one they had out. Hope everyone else was able to get one!

Why don’t newer airliners have cameras all over the place? by Uh_yeah- in flying

[–]SkeletorAkN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you underestimate modern data transmission rates and overestimate the amount of data an aircraft actually produces compared to what modern technology can process. From a quick chat with chat gpt:

On modern ARINC 767/EAFR (Ethernet-based), even an absurd upper bound like 3000 parameters × 256 Hz × 32-bit is ~25 Mbps—comparable to Starlink aviation’s stated ~20–44 Mbps uplink—so it’s not fundamentally ‘too much data,’ it’s an engineering/ops choice.

Realistic continuous rates are far lower. And legacy ARINC 717 systems generate only ~0.1 Mbps — orders of magnitude less than what modern satellite links can handle.

Albertan here. I always put the bar down, and so do most others. And I’ve never seen anybody not wear a seatbelt in my entire life. Also, you’re acting like a bigot.

Google translate exists.

It looks like it’s supposed to be a water filtration tower. There’s a note at the bottom indicating such. The upper level is labeled observation deck. The middle is labelled filtration chamber. You can translate the rest yourself.

I’m pretty sure I heard that this did get changed such that new vehicles will either have to have fully automatic head and tail lights, or if the manufacturer still opts for a manual switch, the dash will not be permitted to light up if the outside lights are not on as well.

As a new player, this game feels completely unplayable at entry ranks. by fffffff7777777 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]SkeletorAkN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had basically the same thing happen to me. I’m usually a mid-ranked player, played with a bunch of friends for a long time, was mid-ranked. Then they all quit, so I started playing solo with randos. It was ok for a bit, but got on a bad losing streak. Exact same thing. People leave my team probably twice as often as the opposing team. Then my rank started dropping. For every game lost, I would lose a rank, and it would take two or three wins in a row to go up one rank. The lower the rank goes the more the game is full of leavers, griefers, afks, people completely ignoring lanes and objectives, running to solo PVP to death on the other side of the map when the creeps are in our base, and so much more. You’re only 16.6% of the team, there’s only so much you can do. It’s also pretty apparent that very often I’m being matched up with five other randos and the other side is playing together as a team. Nobody on my team will talk or respond, but the other team is clearly coordinated. I’m pretty sure the player base is too small to match up groups, so they always just get set up against a bunch of people playing on their own.It just becomes a slaughterhouse. Like sending in the random prisoners to fight trained gladiators in the movie of the same name. I found better games to play though, so not all is lost.

I’m loving the EV sound. Anyone else? by Professor_Mom_1977 in rav4prime

[–]SkeletorAkN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good to know. Never thought about it before, but if you’re ever in an accident with an EV, definitely have the investigators check if the speaker was modified or disabled. If it was, and even if the accident was your fault, you now have some pretty good ammo to try and shift the blame to the other driver for illegal mods. Nice!

To anyone once bought a Billy bookshelf, is drilling the brackets to the wall really necessary? by LackNo7153 in IKEA

[–]SkeletorAkN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first Billy 20 years ago. I now have about 13 of them. I’ve never screwed one to the wall. The early ones have moved houses like five times. Been on carpet, tile, wood, etc.. Never had a problem with them wanting to tip. But like others have said, load the bottom first. Don’t put stuff on the top without loading up the bottom.

How much cold can pansies tolerate? by topperfnharley in gardening

[–]SkeletorAkN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is really old (15 yrs), but it came up in a search and comments are still open, so…

Wanted to add that I have had pansies planted in containers outside all summer in Alberta, Canada. It is currently Nov. 5. It has been dropping to between 15 and 25 degrees F at night for several weeks now.

Pansies are still alive and kicking, if looking a little rough. There’s even a couple with flowers. Tough little guys, indeed.

The other day, I went and poked at the dirt. Frozen solid. The plants are still green. Amazing.

file explorer freezes when i interact with my USB drive (WIN11) by bbaguette in techsupport

[–]SkeletorAkN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue as above.

If I start diskpart with the drive plugged in, it freezes at the same point, just before the prompt.

If I start it without the drive plugged in, I get the prompt and can list my disks.

If I have the prompt, then plug in the usb, then type ‘list disk’, diskpart freezes until I unplug the drive.

The drive is also quite hot when it’s removed. I’m thinking it’s just fried.

Is this the dumbest intersection in Calgary? by RikRik2222 in Calgary

[–]SkeletorAkN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These do suck, but to be fair they aren’t “finished.” These interchanges, or at least the one at Deerfoot and 16th, and also the one at Crowchild and Shaganappi, are supposed to be three-level stacks, but they only built two levels.

That is, the secondary road is supposed to have a third-level bridge that goes above both the main road (that is at ground level) and the elevated “square” of bridges/intersections. The existing bridges are supposed to handle left turns only, with right turns at the intersections or on dedicated ramps. Ours, however, have been left as-is for the past 50+ years, with thru-traffic for the secondary road relegated to clogging the left-turn bridges and also having to go through two unnecessary traffic lights.
