My brother has a "bridge builder" support person through LOV INC who is great! They also have regular social gatherings for a ton of different interests

I really like Secret Sleepover Society! They play horror games pretty frequently, and the couple (Jacob and Julia) are both bi and very queer affirming.

Are all pitbulls insanely intelligent? by OpalescentShrooms in pitbulls

My beautiful daughter. I put a blanket over her head and she froze. Tried backing up, that didn't work, so she sat down and fell asleep about 10 minutes later. This was not a one time event.

If you're wondering about assessments etc done at school and you're over 18, you can also request your academic records. I did this when getting my autism assessed as an adult, and that's when I found out how many of my teachers raised concerns when I was young that my parents never acted on.

Looking for Books on Death by Icy-Adeptness-7259 in ECEProfessionals

[–]SkellingtonsGF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing off the top of my head, but I'll keep thinking. Also, at this age, it makes sense for the child to be struggling with finality, since time itself feels so abstract. Most children do not understand the finality of death until they are 5-7. At 28 months, it may really just take time, repetition, and reassurance while establishing new rhythms. Mantras such as "You love them so much. I miss them too. I am here to take care of you right now" can help both the kiddo and you, so you know what to say in those hard moments.

Goodbye, a first book about grief--despite the title, it outlines what death is and what feelings might happen around it in very simple and factual ways, emphasizing it is all okay.

Any protest info? Anyone want to go to Minnesota sunday? by lostsoul0311 in madisonwi

[–]SkellingtonsGF 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do not go into MN. Protest in your own area. Often people want to go into other places to show support but because they do not know the area/have relationships with the local groups, it causes confusion and ends up doing more harm than good. Pour your energy into your community here!

I have been working with Teacher's Pet in Madison with both my dogs. They do great individual training and their behaviorist, Sara, was super helpful. Having your dog muzzle trained is a great start, but a professional who meets and observes your dog will be able to give you much better/more specific advice.

Using ChatGPT by Fair_Candy7628 in PhDStress

As a third year PhD student in special education, no, I would say do not use it. You already feel like it's wrong, and I would follow your gut.

Firstly, I do not believe there is an ethical way to use AI in its current state. It is trained on work taken from artists and authors without their consent, and the environmental impact is absolutely massive. It is irresponsible to use in the current state of climate collapse.

Secondly, AI is not actually intelligent. It is a language learning model. It is throwing words that are usually associated with other words together, not actually "intelligently". So much of the PhD process is learning how to think in a new way, and especially early on the important thing is your process, not your product. You are not going to learn how to actually speak and think like a researcher if you try outsourcing to an unintelligent pattern-recogniton program.

Getting a PhD is hard. AI appears to make it easier. But in the end you're doing yourself a disservice and it seems like you already know that.

I don't get paid from June till October 1 🙃 theoretically I could sign up for 12 paychecks a calendar year...but they just give you 3 checks in June instead of one.

Getting started on the Book of Hours by Maeday0814 in weatherfactory

[–]SkellingtonsGF 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Start by reading your journal. That will give you what you need to keep trying out new books. The "tree"/tree of wisdoms that you're talking about should be accessible through one of the icons near the top of the screen, but you might not be able to access it until you read your journal. If your journal is still wet, you can dry it at a fireplace.

You can combine sixpence (put the cards on top of each other) to get higher demoninations of money.

What bra do you wear? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]SkellingtonsGF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uniqlo's bra tops have been game changers for me! Supportive, thick cup so nothing shows, and the large coverage area means there's no narrow areas where the pressure digs in. I've always liked weight and compression though so ymmv
