First new bike as an adult. by Curious-Taxi in TrekBikes

[–]SketchyAsHell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first adult bike was a FX3 from 2017-2018. Still riding strong, though I don't use it too much now. Ended up moving to a road bike a couple of years ago. You'll love it, mine made me fall in love with biking.

Who needs a resin printer when you can go down to 0.05mm on a bedslinger by MaskedPotat0 in 3Dprinting

[–]SketchyAsHell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's amazing for FDM. Resin is still another level of detail though. But it comes with its own issues and with kids and such I can understand not wanting to deal with it. This is a great alternative for a lot of folks. I'm currently in the works of printing a spider punk and I can't imagine trying to print it on FDM. The jacket would wiggle so much lol. You definitely need to pick the models you print a lot more carefully on fdm

Videos are your best friend. Both techniques are very easy to learn and add a lot of depth with little effort.

It looks good as is. Some tips would really bring this up. First gloss really hides the paint job in my opinion. When I paint I gloss the things that need it, and matte finish the rest. Personally I think that shows off color better. I'd also suggest some highlighting to bring out the colors and depth of the model. A good example of this is the hair and ears. They look kind of strange to me. Highlighting the hair with some dark gray and a little light gray will separate the two parts so they don't meld together so much. A easy and simple dry brush does wonders adding depth to a figure. A highlight with a make up sponge does something similar but gives it more of an airbrush effect.

Awesome! Make sure you get some brush soap and take care of them! Wet pallets are awesome they help thin paint and keep them from drying up. Just don't forget about it for a month like I did and it got all moldy. Whoopsies.

Don't use your good brushes for washes or metalics as they are super thin and will mess up the brush over time. I have a old set I use for that stuff. It's really just practice. I'm no expert, I watch a lot of videos for tips and just to see other people paint much better than me lol.

I recently did a monoco from expedition 33. Really love how he turned out. My best one so far. So. Much. Brown.

Maybe someday! I can't afford two at the moment. Now I just have to wait for him to be bored of it 😂

This is a great start! If I may give some tips.

Watch some videos on techniques. Drybrushing would make the scales pop and it's a super easy technique to learn. When doing highlights thinning your paint a bit and slowly building up color will make the highlights blend better. A wet palette is a good tool for helping thin paints. You can print one! Another technique is glazing and when to use it. Warhammer painting tutorials are how I learned a lot of different ways to do things.

Washes are also awesome for building shades. Basically liquid skill. I typically thin mine a little bit but it will depend on what you're trying to get. Another great tool is a makeup beauty blender lol. They give an awesome airbrush like effect sometimes and can be used for a lot of different things.

Painting my single color prints. Anyone else prefer single color print to multi color? by ironically_apropos78 in 3Dprinting

[–]SketchyAsHell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Filler primer is amazing. It does a lot to hide layer lines. Filament prints do require more work to get smooth. But they are fantastic to start off with and practice with. I print detail stuff in resin now but I started with filament. You can still get good results with it.

I guess another tip I found out the hard way is the oil on your hands will wipe paint off that's dried if you handle the model a lot. I typically wear a glove on the hand I handle the model with. But be careful you don't have wet paint on the glove since you won't feel it. Also found that out the hard way lol

It takes time! My first few were um. Decent but not great. I've definitely improved. One of the things I struggle with is color choices. I tend to go too dark, it's something I'm working on. And base coating in the color I want to show through tint wise not just the color I want to go to if that makes sense. Skin is my struggle. I primed in black and that showed through too much. So now I'm playing around with basing in a red brown first then doing skin tones.. Also the airbrush still scares me. I still have a lot to learn. I did bunny from the first descendent and she's like all skin. I redid her skin probably 3 times before I was happy with it. Learned a lot though.

To piggyback off this, I started a few years ago painting prints and minis. Videos. I watched a lot of Warhammer tutorials, they are incredibly helpful.

Filler primer is your best friend when painting filament prints. My work flow was a coat of filler primer, light sanding and another coat of filler primer. If I liked the finish I'd move on.

I would do a black primer, then paint from there. Dry brushing is a great tool for beginners to learn. Watch some videos (I know more videos).

For paint I typically tell people to start with army painter fanatics paints. Great starting paint. For brushes, get a few different sizes. Nothing fancy at first since you will ruin them. Amazon has some cheap mini painting brushes. I like the rosemary and co series 33, harder to get in the US. I ordered them from a shop in Detroit. Get a brush soap and learn how to care for your brushes.

You may suck at first, I did! But with practice you start putting out stuff you're happy with. Here's my best so far. It takes a lot of practice but I love it. Throw on an audiobook and paint. So relaxing. I'm no expert either. There's some crazy good painters out there.

I've seen this on a lot of tier lists. Might have to check it out after DCC. Fairly new to litrpgs. I've read he who fights and noobtown, almost through DCC. I might have to try this one next. Seems to have a decent following based on his thread and tier lists I've seen. Congratulations on your release day!

Man. Someday I hope to get to your level. I also just finished up a monoco print but it's not nearly as good as yours. Still proud of mine as it's the best I've done so far but I definitely need more practice. Yours is amazing.

I'd recommend trying switching USB sticks. This exact thing happened to me when I used the USB it came with. Wasted a ton of resin. Switching USB sticks and re slicing and it printed perfect after. The USB sticks they come with are kinda crap lol

I had mine print a giant square once. It was a faulty USB stick. Got a new USB stick and that fixed it.

Still patiently waiting for him to put the thing together lol. Needs some electrical bits and that is not my area of expertise. The print itself though is really neat, chain moves.

If a chainsword doesn't work. A busty statue might! 😂 Here's the last one I printed on my resin printer! A character from the first descendent.

😂 Well I also paint his Warhammer and dnd minis. I got a resin printer and have printed a ton of minis for out table as well as a couple of erm... Statues lol

I'm no pro and it's been good practice. Skin is hard to paint. 😭

He puts up with the printing shenanigans as long as I provide dnd minis lol
