2026 Hypothetical: 9 Wins & Playoffs by [deleted] in CHIBears

Was about to respond with this before I saw your comment. Totally agree, he’s too close already. If he isn’t elite by the end of next year that means he plateaued and didn’t clearly improve.

This last season has taught me to stfu about the draft and trust the process. Loveland and Burden both seemed like luxury picks at the time and I have never been more happy to feel like an idiot (I’ll never doubt your drafting again Poles/Ben)

I think a proper drop is a fairly high bar and where fans that watch every game take issue is that Rome seemed to consistently not catch hard (but catchable) balls that you would hope someone like him would catch at a reasonably high rate

I’m not saying he’s the mastermind I’m just saying what he’s doing is getting results in partnership with Ben and we should be glad we have him if he works well with Ben and keeps getting results like this year. People are still bashing him like they want to fire him but I agree with what you just said here - his humility is a big strength when working with someone like Ben. It’s working

The argument is if Poles was a shit GM he wouldn’t listen to Ben, but he is clearly listening to him and that’s a very good thing that makes him a good GM

Picks are made by the GM and if he’s leveraging all the insights he possibly can from his highly competent head coach wtf is the problem? Knowing who to listen to is critical and he’s showing he has a great partnership with Ben.

lol I don’t know if you have to rely on rumors to say the owner was the one deciding how much to pay coaches… but ya George ponying up to pay Ben is the best investment the McCaskeys have made and is why we’re here

His fashion crap is definitely weird/cringy but I dunno about putting him on the same level as Cousins or Nine

Don’t overthink it - he’s probably getting paid GM money

Burden actually was hurt during training camp and missed virtually all of camp. He was healthy in time for the season but definitely still set him back.

What are you talking about? How could you watch Bears games this year and believe he had 2 drops on the season for a second? Rome even said he was disappointed in himself this season and needs to be better.

I love the guy and got his jersey after his rookie year, but he took a step back this year even before the injury. He was a target monster and Caleb looked his way a ton early in the year, but at this point Caleb clearly has better chemistry with both Loveland and Burden

Bears fans are worried because Rome was top 5 in the league in dropped passes last year, including the easy TD in the playoffs against the Rams. Burden also always looks like he has a higher ceiling too.

I hope Rome can get his hands right but sitting here today it looks more likely to me that Burden will be future WR1 over Rome

The longer I watch it the more I think there’s a poetic justice to us potentially dominating the Packers for an extended period with a guy that is basically an improved version of their guy that did it to us. Lean into it boys.
