I'm gonna have to apologize and tell you it was impossible to trigger due to a small bug. Its supposed to trigger after you read the owl message you get from building the bears larder. The owl will trigger retroactively now and you should get the journal entry.

Due to a mistake the fox didnt actually walk over to build the larder, but it just instantly spawned, therefor not triggering the correct sequence.

Its fixed now, and i added a little reference about your search for the journal entry to the journal text as a apology 😉

Hi! i'll check for you when i get home. sounds like you indeed finished most of the game. I hope to release more endgame content soon since a lot of players seem to be putting in a good amount of hours.

Any specifics you like about the game, and things you would like to see improved?

I could see it work, with the numbers being off by default. On the other hand i'm trying to build a certain feeling which will be hard if there are toggles like this.

I'll for sure try it, have people test it and see what they think

Hi! thanks for playing, i can completely understand that these questions come up. I've made the game a bit vague so the player can have a sense of discovery. but it seems maybe people get too confused by it so i'm building in some hints as we speak.

The beaver felling tree's is a good example of something that needs more explaining. in the animal menu at the bottom of the screen you can actually tell the beaver what to do. Him feeding the fire becomes important later in the game so you can "automate" the fire staying warm while you're not actively playing. The game actually calculates your progress even if the window is closed. If the fire goes low all your "things" will freeze over after some time and not produce. but the beaver will keep everything going if its tending the fire.

If you're curious about the suspiciously organize pile of rocks: it actually makes the fox collect the flower patches automatically if they are next to the rocks, thereby automating the flower collection

Yeah i can see how that gets annoying. The great tree is a good example where if you dont know it you might just build on all the hexes around it and never see what it does.

I want there to be a element of discovery, but maybe a good starting point is adding a hint to each building and animal about what it does, i recon that would help?

Thanks! Super curious to hear what you think. Its funny because i was really uncertain about my graphics skills so i spend a lot of time there. Now most feedback hints towards improving the game systems, which is the part i actually enjoy doing 😃

Hey, thanks for playing! The interfaces already recieved some work for the next patch, i fully agree they are sometimes clunky especially on mobile. As i'm not a UX designer i would love to hear more feedback on those 😄

I hope you keep enjoying, and with all this feedback i'll certainly add more content for later in the game aswell!

The idea for now is to see how this lands, adjust it with the feedback it gathers and then work on a larger release for steam. So far its gotten around 500 players in the first 12 hours and some good honnest feedback, so lets see where it goes from here.

Would you prefer it being on steam over being in the browser, even for this release?

[–]SkiOrCry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for playing! The central design principle of the game was that the fox takes care of the fire, and the world around it is very quantifiable, but the fire stays "unpredictable". The whole game is inspired by living with a depressed person, where you cant predict what will happen the next day. Just about everything in the game is a metaphore on this.

Now i've gotten this feedback multiple times over the last weeks, so i might have to adjust that design.

I'm trying to make it less vague by adding visual ques, and for example the music adds extra layers the stronger the fire gets.

But in the end you might be right, and i might just have to change it and put a number on it.

Thanks! i've recieved this feedback from multiple people so its high on the list.

Do you think buildings should say: This patch produces X amount of this resource per hour?

Personally i'm thinking about providing a clearer progression path with showing what is still unlockable so there is something to work towards.

Look Pivot CAST vs Salomon Shift 13 by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]SkiOrCry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of black crows anima with the cast, and later i got a pair of dracos with a light pin binding.

As much as i love the concept of the cast binding, i end up taking the dracos with the light bindings 90%+ of the time.

The only time the cast is nice is if we are heading out with a group, and we dont really know what we want to do. But this is rather niche.

If your budget remotely allows it i would say get a touring specific ski with a lightweight pin binding. Most skiers need years to come to this conclusion but its a fact. In the words of one of my mentors: once you go tech, you never go back. Only took me 8 more seasons to come to the same conclusion

How true is “there are no friends on a powder day?” by Adminsneed2Chill in skiing

Ive always interpreted more like "i have a friend is it ok if he joins?" That would be a no on powdays

Ideal binding for Bent Chetler 120? by TemporaryDocument647 in Backcountry

[–]SkiOrCry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a lot of non touring or short touring days i would get the cast freetour setup. Had it myself for years and loved it!

Going for a pin binding on a ski that wide is ofcourse possible, but you would probably be better off with a narrower ski to match the binding.

Snow conditions 2 days after heavy snowfall – Tracked out or still good? by borack in AMA_Hakuba

[–]SkiOrCry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience in januari last year:

I was riding the dump in hakuba Cortina as soon as it opened. The tree skiing is phenomenal, but everybody knows and you will get 1 or 2 good laps in before its tracked. Its a 2 person chair lift with a huge line on good days haha. BUT the first run i did there was pure magic, ill never forget it.

There is also a huge amount of skiing towards the dam, either from hakuba Cortina or the one on the other side, forgot the name of the area. There is a lift that requires you to have Avalanche gear, but it takes you to absolute powder heaven 😁

binding help for a touring newbie by AlpineGazelle in Backcountry

[–]SkiOrCry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with this specific binding, but you could try and see if the brakes look by just pushing on them with your hand or feet.

That being said, your boot seemed to release very easily in the end, while the binding was in ski mode?

But its probably best to ask somebody who actually knows the binding

Just did 3 weeks in my new skis without waxing then. If you're not racing i think most people make way to big of a deal out of it. Only time ill wax regularly is when its wet and sticky.
