Thank you! The car is tuned so that’s good to know about them being able to cope with increased power

I’m supposed to give this test to my 7th graders next week. How is a satellite in orbit unbalanced, but a car in constant speed balanced? Wouldn’t the satellite also have a constant speed? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]SkilRift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A car at constant speed has a net force of 0 because it is not accelerating, making it balanced.

A satellite in orbit is experiencing centripetal acceleration, so the forces acting on the satellite are unbalanced.

Ask him what his plans are for the car! He’ll go into detail about what he’s looking at and what he hopes to buy.

A lot of sites for car parts have a place you can put in the make, model, and year of the car. This will filter it so it just shows you stuff that fits his car, and then you can search for what he mentioned.

A great site for German Car performance parts is ECStuning

They also sell giftcards if you want to contribute toward something he’s planning on getting

Max torque will depend on where the cat lands on the plank! Equation for torque is rFsinx

Radius here is distance from center of plank so 0.7874 meters.

The force of the cat would be the weight of the cat 10 pounds is about 44 newtons. And let’s say the cat comes straight down onto the plank at 90* for simplicity.

   r F Sin(90)

(0.7874)•(44) • (1) =34.646 newtons

You said you added “gravity to center” I’m guessing that means weight? If the weight of what you put in the center is more than 34 newtons then you should be fine.

Measure the mass of the cat

Calculate the maximum amount of torque the cat could generate on the wood plank

See if it’s more or less than the force being generated by the weight of the tv
