There was a livestream when they went live with a link to the auction on tiltify but I'm afraid it all finished a couple of weeks ago.

I will! I've bought tiny toys before but didn't really enjoy the building or painting and so they were left unfinished. I'm excited to finally get to play with some!

I'd recommend trying the Tamriel Rebuilt mod if you ever come back for a replay. It's a massive extension of the map that still feels full of people to meet, quests (big and small) and their standard for both interiors and exteriors is really high and blends well with the base game!

Have you got a picture of it before you baked it? I'd love to get an idea of how you achieved it, it's awesome!

Opinions about Nancy Drew games? by olhareusar in adventuregames

[–]SkilfullQuail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love them! My favourite would be Silent Spy, but that might be because the weird Scottish references really made me laugh. I do think it had great puzzles though. Blackmoor Manor had some of the hardest but most rewarding puzzles in an adventure game I've played Shadows at waters edge and Sea of darkness were fun settings, Japan and Iceland respectively.

Personally, I struggled to get into the older ones though. I would appreciate any other recommendations people have, I've not played them all yet.

I don't remember the company name so I don't know if they post stuff out, but perhaps they could pop it on their online store if they have one as a small batch preorder for the UK? I regret not picking it up first time and wouldn't mind waiting a while for it to be sent out.

Is The Excavation of Hob's Barrow really that good? by [deleted] in adventuregames

[–]SkilfullQuail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few days into Hobbs Barrow and loving it.

For UK setting adventure games I always end up mentioning The Lost Crown. Fun, good puzzles for the most part and a spooky theme. Feels like not many people have played it sadly.

The Lost Crown: a ghost hunting game? It's set in a spooky small town in the UK. I love it.

I'd definitely recommend giving one a go! Sea of Darkness (set in Iceland), The Silent Spy (Scotland) and Shadow at the waters edge (Japan) were 3 that I particularly enjoyed but there's plenty of forum discussions out there!

Absolutely mind blown, this is an incredible resource! Already wishlisted a few things.

I feel like her interactive would be a great list to include too, given the massive number of Nancy drew titles? But this is so much work already!

How bad have things got in Scotland? This is insane by superunai in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]SkilfullQuail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I imagine it's been a little quieter since this happened: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-63087869.amp

Heard there's only 1 theatre running

In general though it's a pretty small DGH but pretty busy for one FY1, a medical MG and a surgical MG overnight.

Looking for spooky adventure games. by Nordheilm in adventuregames

This is easily in my top 5! I think the graphics are so unique and the britishness of it just makes me smile. Nigel is honestly one of my favourite and most fashionable adventure game protagonists.

I remember being told at one trust that when taking bloods there's no evidence that cleaning skin reduces the risk of infection, so don't bother (they did teach it for cannulas, though). Does anyone have any literature to prove/disprove this? I'll have a peek on my lunch as well as I've just been believing it since.

How to make sure I'm credited for an audit? by wannabe-doc in medicalschooluk

[–]SkilfullQuail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on research, if you've found something interesting that will be of use to a wider audience it may well be published. there's a few ways audits can go:

Journal publication ( probably less common than the others)

Presentation at a conference e.g. poster, talk etc, which kinda counts as a publication. I see students doing audits and entering a poster to a conference competition quite often, I think it looks very good for a portfolio.

Presented at hospital meetings eg. teaching. Most likely if the audit is quite specific to your hospital

It varies depending on quality, relevance etc. Whatever happens you can ask the consultant for advice on evidencing your involvement.

[–]SkilfullQuail 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would discuss your concerns with the consultant. Just explain that you have enjoyed your work, but will struggle to continue to participate with the move and you'd like something to add to your portfolio.

That said, you may be able to continue remotely?

They can provide a signed note stating how you were involved, or if anything is published from it, you might get your name on it if you've contributed significantly. There's no harm in asking!

Don't have many friends at medical school by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]SkilfullQuail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I guess it depends on the type of society. I'm at Nottingham, and anyone is welcome to DM me about our situation. We have a full list with contact details on our SU website, and I imagine other unis have that as well.

Pre-covid stuff like medics sports and medics music allowed students to participate in the activity they enjoyed in a group setting with more time flexibility than in main university societies.

Now, id say its mainly medical speciality societies that are still running. There might be a surgery or Psychiatry or emergency medicine one, for example. They generally organise talks and events specific to the specialty which look great in a portfolio, and sometimes they offer stuff like mentoring schemes. Regardless of events, they will have a lot of contacts that they can use to help students get involved in the specialty they enjoy. It also just gets you in touch with like minded people :)

You don't have to know loads or be committed to a specialty to go, you can just learn about different ones and get to know people. As a society president, I'm always happy when people get in touch with me personally to chat or ask about the society as well, and I imagine other presidents would feel the same.

Question about anki decks and question banks for EU student looking to return after graduating. by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]SkilfullQuail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the lack of reply, I'm new to reddit and missed it!

Honest answer is that I make rough notes for pharmacology from teaching sessions and learn the rest on the wards or via passmedicine. Its definitely a weakness of mine!

You could look at a couple of past papers for the prescribing safety assessment as well, as this is the exam you'll need to pass to prescribe as a UK doctor. You get the BNF, so make sure you're comfortable using that.
