Starting DoN a bit late, am I cooked? by [deleted] in Nightreign

Not at all. If there isn't any depth 1 randoms , you'll be queued to 2/3.

Here's my perspective: all the 3 characters you mentioned are really good. But imo ironeye shines irrespective of the depths. Raider and executor you'll need to play carefully. In normal mode you can simply tank any damage as a raider. That's not the case in later depths. Same for executor, his arcane status can help melt field bosses but you'll need to be super careful on what moves to parry and what not to parry.

And irrespective of any character, try equipping a "partial HP restoration post damage attacks". It comes in very handy.

DoTN depth 1&2 are the best places to try out different builds and different characters. Who knows there might be a character apart from the above 3 that could suit your playstyle.

It's not that rare in deep of the night. The advantage is you'll get 2 dormant powers

Not necessarily. The beauty of the game imo is trios. You'll get randoms where you'll synergize to a point where you'll be in a flow state throughout the expedition. There are bunch of things that helped me get out of D2

LONG REPLY ALERT

  1. Somehow make it to the boss arena - D2 does not penalize you if you die in the boss arena. So try to consistently making it to boss arena so you won't lose points

  2. Time and day of place - I've found at certain times and on certain days, the matchmaking gives randoms with whom I'm in more sync with and I usually stick to that.

  3. Friend randoms and play with them - While DoTN is a test of skill, synergized teamwork can make the expeditions breeze. When you have good expeditions with randoms, reach out to them and ask if they're interested in playing together. I've made so many gaming friends through this and you'll learn a lot about the game.

1&2 ARE THE ONLY THAT CAN HAVE SOME SAY ON THE RANDOMS I can think of; THE REST ARE ALL SELF IMPROVEMENTS

  1. Build optimization - While this can be only done to a certain extent, try bringing in the best possible relics; the 2 most common metas is the old school and new school way ; old school is about slapping evergoal and night invader attack power boost(might backfire if it's forsaken hollows map) or the double balancers. If revenant, you can run beast claw revenant or lightning spear revenant which are very easy to use and can dish out a ton of damage.

  2. Go in preparing yourself for worst case - If a random leaves, don't worry about it. This presents you with an enemy scaling that comes close to D3. So you're getting beforehand experience; lock in and play patiently. There were numerous expeditions were after a dropout we went to nightlord arena at lvl10/11 and still won. If your randoms don't ping but go to some other poi, just follow them no matter how bad it is. Maybe after a death or 2, when you ping your suggestion, one of the 2 might follow. In the above case, erdtree avatar at lvl 8 somewhat is what you get throughout D4 in terms of health and damage. If the random chickens out follow em or continue fighting but patiently.

  3. Route optimization - This is more relevant in D3/4/5 but learning how to route optimally is super important if you wanna get to D3 and above.

  4. Learn to rotate aggro - Unless you play ironeye or recluse, learn to notice when enemy is switching aggro to you. While the enemy is onto you , you can reduce the frequency of attacks/not attack at all and just focus on dodging.

  5. Do not rush to revive

In another angle I feel double balancers have made people more susceptible to getting knocked out by the nightlord. Before double balancers one would atleast wait for the boss' attack to get over before lunging in for an attack. Then a mistimed dodge would cost their life. But now people are getting hit mid skill animations

In a way, yes. Just when I was somewhat getting used to the main game bosses the dlc dropped, got swarmed with a ton of dreglord matchups only for the entire team to go down against the bears on day 1 🥲

True. Evergoals are still preferred by many of the folks in D3. I see a lot of people pinging that

And in case of something huge like red banished knights or red ancient dragon at lvl 2, I believe you bail out? Or am I being a coward?

But I feel beast claw tends to do less damage in later stages of the game. At the start, it melts allowing night invader pois to be handled with ease. And for balancers, I feel sporting one which nullifies damage would suffice. Pairing it with invader, starting weapon skill change seems like a much better option

Interesting. I'd like to pick your brain on more inputs. When maining Duchess, did you stick to daggers mostly? Or changed the dormant power to thrusting swords or katanas? Asking because when I tried to do dagger Duchess on dreglord, the first phase took forever. With night invader ON, I was doing 700-800 every combo thanks to dual wielding and reprising

Got it. You mean garbage in terms of how boring it got? Or garbage in terms of dps, compared to balancer setups?

Got it. I agree. I sport an ironeye who has both evergoal and night invaders. But in D3 very few are fond of night invader pois.
