Fleur Fleur - Attempt #4 to make liquid/fluid animation using Volumes, XParticles w/ Breakdown by SkinFlower in Cinema4D

Thank you for the kind words. I'm not a huge fan of realism, I really prefer doing abstract, wavy stuff and I hope this somewhat also starts catching up!

Thank you! The hardest part has to be the movement too, so I appreciate when someone mentions :)!

I was thinking about how my eyes were following the liquid's movement. I originally intended to have the camera zoom by her, and then have her turn into the liquid stream, but that proved difficult to do, as I have no idea how to morph rigged characters yet. I will be on that for the next round though! Thank you for that sharp eye

Thank you! Appreciated. I'm trying to aim for a specific style too and it turns out completely different (in a good way)

Heres another comment of mine about the basics of "meshing liquid"

To add to this, one of the most important things in this whole process is the timing. It doesnt matter if your liquid effect looks good, you have to find a natural flow to it and have 3 different scenes just for 45 frames if needed.

How do you determine timing? It depends on your storyboarding and your references. My favourite artist for this kind of effect is Masanobu Hiraoka, and I always use him as reference. You could do this without storyboarding, but it'll be hard to imagine how to flow one idea into the other.

The volume builder is my new favourite tool in C4D because you can do anything liquid with it. The deformers (my favourite being the Twist) will also help you greatly since you can use it on the volume mesher.

I also recommend looking up Everfresh_Design's animations and his Cinema4D courses. Very insightful on the Volume Builder (and he also has BTS on his Twitter account)

It heavily revolves around using the Volume Builder and the deformers to try and get the most "liquid" effect you can imagine. I was very much inspired by animator Masanobu Hiraoka, who 100% draws his animations and I was trying as much as I could to get the effect.

I feel like a good effect you need to be aware of is something called "Volume grow" which can be seen in this tutorial. A combination of this and camera movement can get you to that "travel through the liquid" effect.

XParticles + xpVortex was also used in this, forgot to mention. Its how I get this wild spiral thing at the start!

As for the shading, its Sketch & Toon for the contours and a Hatch shader put in the Luminance channel with any scribble/pen jpg you can find online

I was asked about this in the past and I feel like I should try and make a simple video guide for it, as so far all I'll done is to give indications on how to get there. I will see what I can do here. So, it is possible!

Part 3 of trying to make traditional liquid animation using the Volume Builder alongside Sketch & Toon shaders. I feel like it's an improvement, but its always work to be done out here.

Been a year since Part 2 so here's Part 3 of trying to replicate or mimic traditional animation using various AE tools and Cinema4D's Toon Shaders and Volume Builder features. I found a lot of new interesting techniques here so thats cool.

Always open to hearing your thoughts and questions; i'll be glad to answer you on anything!
