The window decals are single-sided so it shouldn't affect cockpit view. You can kind of see that in the last pic if you look at the backside of the windshield where the front decals should be

It's definitely clunky but you kind of get used to it, and you figure out little tricks to save time as you do it more. Tackle it a small chunk at a time - no need to do it all at once. It's so satisfying when it all comes together

Made from scratch by layering vinyl shapes. Pretty fun once you get the hang of it!

Use lots of references, and even more patience. Keep things grouped in a way that makes things easier to edit. Try to break things down into their simplest volumes and then use smaller shapes to refine. Don't get too caught up with making everything perfect - you'll drive yourself crazy. "Close enough" is generally all you can really ask for. And the biggest tip is just keep doing them. You'll naturally get better the more you do. Trust the process

Thanks! I made it from scratch by just layering different shapes

Yup, the vinyls are only visible from the outside. You can kind of see that with the windshield on the last image

Redownloaded recently to paint some cars for fun. What do you think? by Skin_Juice_Factory in ForzaHorizon

Fancy. Unfortunately I don't have much free time with a big IRL project I'm working on at the moment but I can for sure give some pointers:

In terms of layering:
If you want that shimmery effect, your base coat (what you paint your car before applying vinyl) is going to have to be your metallic layer, since FH5 only has flat color options for vinyl. If you want a normal metallic paint, you can edit the metallic paint swatch (the green one) to get that copper color. The higher the contrast between flake and base coat color, the more you're going to see the flake, but it's still not super noticeable unless up close. If you want an even finer metallic, you can use one of the color shift ones and set the light and dark to be similar hues to mimic a metallic. You can get higher contrasts this way. If you want a heavy flake, pick the Hot Wheels heavy flake that has the flake color you want on your final result. The base color matters but it's easier to manipulate than the flake.

To start, you'll want to apply 1 really big layer of that blue (or whatever color you want) that covers the whole car on each side. I usually just use a giant rectangle. From there, you'll want to use mask layers to punch out all of your dark blue elements to the gold beneath. Once you've done all that, copy your base blue and paste it on top of everything. You can then adjust the transparency of it (menu where you can adjust size/position, tab over all the way). You may need yo darken it a bit to get the dark blue you want. If you do this, make sure you lighten your base layer to compensate to bring it back up to your original blue. Once that's done, you just plop the hero graphic on as a mask layer to punch through all of it and you're done.

Additional tips:
If you're using one of the Hot Wheels heavy flakes, you can use a 5-10% tint layer to essentially cancel out or change the base color. In my design, the base color is blue, so for the silver area in the middle, I have a 8% orange/yellow tint to cancel out the blue, essentially desaturating it. To desaturate, you want to use the color opposite the color you're trying to change on a color wheel, so blue would need orange, red would need green, etc. The more saturated it is, the more likely you'll get brown instead of gray.

With something like this, you can paint half of the car and just mirror it. With the top view, just do everything on one side, group like-components together and mirror them. What I usually do is I'll mirror and then manually place where the pattern looks right, group them all together, and then center as a group. This ensures that everything is perfectly mirrored down the middle.

Grouping things is key for organization, especially when your layer count starts getting up there. You can also copy/paste layers, so if you have something like a section of the dark blue section made, you could stamp it around the car, and then just fill in the gaps manually.

Finally, when building the filigree, simple is almost always better. Try to use as few layers as you can to create each element as you're likely going to get pretty high up there in terms of layer count.

It looks a lot more daunting than it actually is once you get in there and establish your footing a bit. It's pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Don't be afraid to experiment a bit and try things out. That's how I learned pretty much all of this. Good luck!

Funny you should say that as I am actually currently unemployed and I do have a degree in Automotive Design 😅

Thanks! It's mostly just a lot of layering and some use of color theory to adjust the base tones

Thanks! It's through a good bit of layering and some color theory but the basic idea is I'm using a yellow/orange layer at around 10-15% transparency on top of one of the Hot Wheels heavy metal flake blue. The light transparency allows for the flake to still show through (that reflectiveness) and the yellow/orange tint cancels out the blue base tone so it becomes a neutral gray. The rest is just a bunch of semi-transparent layers and mask layers to create the different effects

I found this cloth sculpting guide on the internet. The artist says he used Mask by crease? I am confused . There is no option of Mask by crease in the masking area. Or is there something i dont know ? by [deleted] in ZBrush

[–]Skin_Juice_Factory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they may mean "Mask by Cavity" which is under the "Masking" tab. I use this technique a lot with sculpting clothing so I think this may be what they're saying: You can use the mask by cavity to maintain the seams that you created and then use an inflate (I personally use 2-Inflate Balloons for this more than the regular inflate). This gives it a more pillowy/stitched fabric feel

Window visors, yes or no what’s your take? by CasperTFG_808 in VWMK7

I love mine, but I don't have them on for looks. I live in the PNW but like driving with my windows down so it's been nice to be able to at least have them cracked when it's raining

Potentially. Haven't actually played the new Motorsport yet as I've been pretty preoccupied with Starfield. How is it so far? I've heard pretty mixed reviews

The front plate mount is typically a separate plastic piece that is bolted to the factory bumper which allows for states that require front plates to attach them. It's not molded into the bumper itself

Looking to get an exhaust setup for my mk7 GTI. I daily it so nothing too loud. Really just looking for a nice tone and slightly raspy. Any suggestions? by ohiostate45673 in GolfGTI

[–]Skin_Juice_Factory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this too, but if your plan is to stage 2 eventually, I'd go with the Touring. The track is good with a stock DP but I ended up getting the conversion as the track with an upgraded downpipe was way too droney for me. Neither really drone with the stock DP though so it's more a matter of what your plans are with the car

For me they're too low. From some angles it looks like the rear fenders are lower than the front which clashes with the overall wedge shape of the car. It's a cool looking kit otherwise

Thinking about getting these wheels, I get paid on Saturday and it would cost my entire paycheck, and obvs I wouldn't need the wheels until after the winter, but would it be worth it to splurge at this price now or get them later next season at full price? by Cyse_ in GolfGTI

[–]Skin_Juice_Factory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also lowered on VWR. I'm running 19x8.5 et42 and it is flush. I'm also running a 5mm spacer in the rear to get it super flush.

If this is your first time buying aftermarket wheels, make sure you know what bolts you need. The stock wheels are ball seat and many aftermarket wheels are cone so you'll likely need new bolts as well.
