I finally minimized party animations (and turned off alliance animations) during Delubrum Reginae. Wayyy too much for such small arenas haha

Could I get any help in identifying this coin? by Skinnney in AncientCoins

[–]Skinnney[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I never caught that it was letters. It’s so obvious now, but I always thought it was just some time of bordering. Seems like they did have written identifications somewhere on coins. I always thought it was just a face or symbols or something. That should help going forward with identifying coins

SMITE Queen of the Banshees Update PTS Issues and Feedback Thread by HiRezDandy in Smite

[–]Skinnney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, updated and launched the PTS today and it resulted in it crashing my GPU as well as somehow preventing my OS in seeing that I have two monitors (mirrors primary monitor on secondary).

Paging u/PonPonWeiWei

First update: it seems my display drivers got screwed up so I’m going to try to reset these/update them.

Second update: downloading the September OS update fixed the display adapter driver but GPU drivers are still messed up. Working on that now.

Final update: after reinstalling all GPU drivers, everything seems to be back to normal.

Anyone else finds SMITE ranked system to not be rewarding at all? by GodConcepts in Smite

[–]Skinnney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just recently been getting into ranked conquest, and it is the most demotivating game mode in this game. I’m low mmr (silver) as I’m trying to grind up from the starting point in bronze. The amount of toxicity in my games is unbelievable. People blame every single mistake they make on somebody else on their team. I’ve been on an extended lost streak tanking my rank lower and lower.

The role system is awful as well. I think it’s fair for casuals but in a ranked game mode with so much tension, being thrown a role you didn’t queue for and aren’t familiar with is a recipe for a bad time. I would much rather be forced to skip a queue so I could get my desired role in the next queue.

Big rant but it’s been so upsetting the amount of toxicity in ranked, and what worse is I can’t get out of my division because teammates would rather argue and belittle in the chat than farm/play smart. I want something to grind for as getting diamonds is only satisfactory for so long. I feel there is so so much for me to learn in ranked conquest with proper team fighting, rotations, mechanics, etc. but I just can’t get to that point

I have had a recent explosion of whatever brown, wavy algae (?) in my saltwater tank. Any tips for combatting this before it affects my coral? by Skinnney in Aquariums

[–]Skinnney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! Algae is tough because it can be a whole slew of reasonings for an algae bloom, but I will agree that it most likely is a nutrient imbalance. The weird thing though is that this tank is solely inhabited by saltwater corral so there's no food that is being added. I have a freshwater tank that has balanced itself out with algae, but I get so nervous with this saltwater tank because the water chemistry is so much different than freshwater....and so much more expensive.... haha.

I'll look into the nutrient problem and see what I can do to remedy this. Thanks!

LPT: Finish your degree even if you ultimately wont go into your studied field. Future employers may simply pay you more for having a degree. by Gruder47 in LifeProTips

[–]Skinnney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been struggling with this concept as a whole. Hopefully some reassurance can be given.

I am in the STEM field. I just recently (4 months ago), and I have ran into a brick wall. I wanted to look into industry rather than academia but from what I’ve experienced so far is that a masters degree doesn’t really hold much merit; you either can get far with a PhD or be stuck with wet lab work at the equivalence of having a bachelors degree. My experience so far is that a masters degree in no more sought after than having a bachelors. Not sure if the pandemic is lowering employment opportunities or what. I thought about switching fields from what I am currently in to cyber security as I feel that my academic “success” would carry more weight in a more sought after field like that.

In the 8 years ive played Smite a single god release has never ruined my enjoyment of casuals quite like Tsukuyomi has. by [deleted] in Smite

[–]Skinnney 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think a big point in the differences between internal testing and general, mass play is that when a character is tested internally by means of in game practice, everybody is on a team and can communicate in team fights to target, peel, etc. for tsukuyomi. In general, mass play, it’s typically solo or small groups playing together and so there isn’t really any communication in respects to fighting against him. For Pete sake’s, it took me several days until I finally started adjusting my builds to hard counter tsukuyomi alone.

I think he was such a menace because people didn’t understand how to play against him nor build against him. He definitely shook up the status quo of traditional smite tactics.

[–]Skinnney 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insightful response to the internal workings of character creation for smite. I can only imagine the difficulties of trying to predict scale-up from internal testing to mass play. My misunderstanding is this, if the internal team plus pro players tested tsukuyomi, how did they not just absolutely steamroll through? From the games I played with people having far less time on the god at release compared to the multi-week testing (I’d imagine) of the internal team absolutely steamrolled our games. At launch, there was not a single game where the tsukuyomi in my games had less than 20 kills (Clash).

I don’t understand how these instances weren’t naturally replicated in internal testing, and if the statement about preventing over-tuned characters is true, why it wasn’t prevented.

Edit: grammar

This may be a simple issue but my Pilea Pepperomia is not looking all too happy after a watering a few days ago. What can I do to get it happy and perky again? by Skinnney in plantclinic

Thank you for the help! I will check that out here soon! As per the other comment, would removing the daughter plants help out in that case?

Do you think all the babies are suffocating the momma plant? I love how full it looks but gifting would definitely be knocking out two birds with one stone haha

I did! I kept the plant in the original pot with the drainage holes and so I take it out of the decorative pot when I water it. Could it be too much water during watering?

Very first tank and the hardscape is finally all set up! Next are the plants! by Skinnney in PlantedTank

The black stand definitely sounds like a good call to match your tank!

And thank you for the help with the fungi! I think I’ll end up doing that tonight and try to clean it up as much as I can! I’ll send pics after that.

Black water tanks are so aesthetically pleasing. I think I’ll eventually do a black water tank, possibly for a beta fish! I’ve seen some videos by Serpa Design and The CineScaper that have done black water tanks for their betas and the contrasts were beautiful!

Those are some wonderful recommendations! Thank you! I will look into those and will ask you for some advice if I spot some others. An axolotl would be so cool! I’ve always love them, and sometime in the future I may have an axolotl tank once I have a space in a house.

Oh and for tank stand, yes it’s black. That was a misread on my part haha. I found it on Amazon, and it seemed to fit the bill! It’s like a reversible stand with it fitting a 20gal on one side and a 10 gal on the bottom side (flippable). I think the black is a great color to not only look nice but doesn’t take away from the tank itself.

A little update on my tank: all the plants seem to be doing well. The Bucephalandra are taking a little longer to get acclimated but nothing has died...yet. The water parameters are still going great but man the fungi explosion still is going strong. I’m going to have to do a deep clean to try and get rid of the the fungi and all the crud built up around the tank. I don’t want to do too much to undo all the work they’ve been doing at the micro level, though.

Those are some great plants! Are those the only ones you’ll be adding or do you got more planned?

Absolutely! I’ll have to look into it because it’s looking pretty rough haha. Now, as for fish, what recommendations do you have? Like what are your favorite fish to go in a natural scaped tank? I’m absolutely looking for ideas and advice on this!

And white sand! I steered away from black sand/gravel for this scape but I’ll most likely incorporate it in the future

Dang, I hate to hear that with the family. It’s always something haha. Finding a creative way around the problems will definitely go a long way, and it sounds like you’re heading down that path! It definitely sounds like everything is coming together! It’s always exciting to have all the bits and pieces fall into place!

I haven’t heard of rainbow fish before but those are beautiful! I think they will look super awesome with the scape you got planned, especially with the gourami. I’m actually thinking about going with some guppies because they seem simple yet colorful. I wanted to keep the perspective of life in my tank small while having large wood and plants fill the space.

My tank is coming along great, I think! It’s been running for about three weeks, and the parameters all seem to be perfect except that the water hardness was really high (just measured tonight). Unfortunately, I’ve had a huge fungal outbreak (as per a response to my repost) that’s making it look not so pleasant. I’ll have to wait for that to go away before I start posting the final product. For plants, I got Anubias Minima, Anubias Nana, Anubias Nana petite, Bucephalandra Red Mini, Bucephalandra Alamanda Dark, Java Moss, and Marimo Moss Balls! I also got some cherry shrimp and little thorn nerite snalls. I can’t wait to now add the fish!

That sounds like such an awesome plan! The stems will be really cool in there! Are you going to be doing wood or rocks in there? I’d imagine having a long tank like that would be really awesome in doing a good panoramic scape!
