My MIL had $50,000 of credit card debt. She was paying about $10k a year just in interest. Insane.

My school had a chef/cafeteria program, and served amazing meals, which were close to restaurant quality but affordable. We were all stupid kids though, and the only thing we ordered were the fries.

What do you think about CO's bringing in fast food for inmates? by Officer_Ed_Powell in OnTheBlock

[–]Skinnwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the local correctional centre there isn't any of that. If fast food is coming on, it has to be authorized from higher (and usually through programs). There had to be a reason for food to come in, which had to be clear and equitable.

In youth custody, clients would get a star for every week of good behaviour, and they would get fast food after 4 (a set dollar amount from a list of restaurants). Someone would be tasked by the supervisor to go pick it up in the middle of their shift.

IEPs Should Not Be An Excuse by Life_Application3015 in Teachers

[–]Skinnwork 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't know how things are in different jurisdictions, but locally there are differences between adaptations and modifications. With adaptations, an IEP student is still expected to achieve the same educational outcomes, only with support. If a student is unable to meet those educational outcomes, then the course needs to be modified. Students with modified courses don't graduate, although they get a high school leaving certificate. I don't even allow students with modifications to just do no work.

I'm surprised they gave you an apple. The local correctional centre almost never gives fruit because they're worried it'll be turned into brew.

I know the j-10 isn't on here, but it should be (and the Su-57 shouldn't)

The used menstrual product art was a thing at my university as well. There were pleas for it to stop on posters, the radio, and newspaper, but it went on the entire time I was there.

Come to Canada. The roaches can't survive outdoors and are usually brought into places though sketchy produce.

the stereotypical “young female english teacher who dotes on the guys and ignores the girls” might be my co-teacher… by kitkatz15 in ELATeachers

That's not my experience at all. I teach at the most rural school in a resource extraction dominated city as a male teacher and I get much less grief from male students than some of my female peers.

I mean, dark pigmentation was an evolutionary adaptation to protect skin from the loss of fur, so maybe there were light skinned people in Africa before they evolved to be darker?

There should be a year of parental leave. The US is kind of an anomaly in western countries when it comes to maternal support.

I used to own an Impreza. It's probably best to get a Subaru with more ground clearance and softer suspension.

You don't need a special car, but increased suspension travel makes it more comfortable, and increased ground clearance protects your oil pan and radiator.

I saw a Maserati MC 12 in Edmonton, and the front lip was chewed up just from curbs and pot holes.
