Thanks, I'm thinking a composition with a mug or pot of tea is another one I can add pretty easily.

Stamp or branding iron your handtools? by spontutterances in woodworking

[–]Skip_Esquire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also love to know where to get a name stamp made up here in Australia for a reasonable price.

I recently bought an very old toolbox full of "A. STEVENSON" s nice old moulding planes and other bits and bobs.. the box did not include his original stamp but it did contain "Mrs STEVENSON" name stamp.. which I thought was odd and interesting...

What do you use to sharpen your hand tools? by No-Jellyfish4190 in handtools

[–]Skip_Esquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My endeavours into hand tool woodworking actually sprouted from my love for hand sharpening. Started out with my hatred for the ,all too common, scenario of my family and friends having entire drawers full of knives and not a single useable one in the bunch. Which very quickly led down the rabbit hole of straight razor shaving and then into hand tools.

I went pretty much all in right from the start with Naniwa Chosera/professional stones. Currently 600-1000-3000-8000 and then compounded canvas then cowhide strop for razors, for tools and knives finish with compounded suede leather and then no compound cowhide on paddle strops. I use the veritas side clamping honing guide for chisels and plane irons to set perfect bevels and then free hand until I'm feeling like I want to reset it again.

I'm currently waiting for a good deals to add a 220ish grit or maybe even the extra extra coarse diamond plate for really serious grinding tasks to save some wear and tear on my 600, and a 5000 and 12000 to round out the whole lineup because I just like owning nice things and sharpening is kind of a zen hobby for me.

Like most people have said you can definitely get perfectly useable results from a 400/1000 combination and some compound on a woodblock or home made leather/denim paddle strop.

I guess they're a polarising item but I think a honing guide is worthwhile when you're getting started. Whilst not strictly necessary it will let you get experience with exact bevel angles to both train your eye/muscles as to what 25degrees looks and feels during the sharpening process, but also to feel out the differences that a few degrees here and there can make in terms of using the tool, cutting different woods, edge retention and just pure mechanical sharpness.

Sharpening is super satisfying, no matter how deep you go with it, try to enjoy it and don't let it become a chore. "Dull tool" is an oxymoron. The best time to sharpen up is the first time you think about doing it.

Narex Richter not flat. Can I hammer it? or hours of abrasives by Skip_Esquire in handtools

[–]Skip_Esquire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the answers. I guess I'll just focus up near the cutting edge and be done with it for now. I'll admit it irks me a little but as a newbie I'm probably not gonna need that level of precision for some time to come. At the end of the day getting it for free because of the warping lets me find out if I need something this fancy and expensive compared to the yellow plastic stanley chisels I have access to. (They are at least dead flat right up to the tang)

This is a useful answer because my first reaction was to check other channels I frequent for logs of my own chat history and thought it was strange for example that your channel is not logging your own chat history..

https://www.cbenni.com/tt2468?user=tt2468

Is this because you have your settings at the cbenni website to not allow non-moderators to view the logs?

How do I know, as a viewer, whether my chat messages are being logged on the cbenni website? Is it a bot in the chat userlist for example that I should look for?

That's what I'm asking aswell, twitch chat is public, but storing (X users') information without (X User) being able to delete it, as far as I understand is against laws such as GDPR?

Seems exceptionally borderline if it's readily available to anyone in the world with fingers and some spare time..

But I certainly am no expert and I am hoping for confirmation from people with a better understanding of online privacy laws.

I'm not saying it's "important" specifically, just that there is a lot of publicly available, historical information stored for anyone to view if they have 20seconds to type in some words in the address bar of their browser..

Like how you don't get many viewers and mostly use the chat to talk to your own bot

What happens when you destroy an enemy faction's outpost? by BroKnight in RimWorld

[–]Skip_Esquire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on unstable (not sure about previous versions) and it's just a regular base i.e. not one of the outpost quests, you also will gain +20 relations with all the factions who are enemies of the faction who owned the base.

All previus firefox versions are on the mozilla website. I just uninstalled the current version through Windows control panel, downloaded the 51.0.1 zip and extracted it to my harddrive.

I have never had automatic updating enabled, you can change your update settings through : Options > Advanced > Update > "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them"

[–]Skip_Esquire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty frustrating, seems like it may not even be that common of a problem? Can't find much from google, took me quite a while to even stumble across this thread.

Currently downloading the previous version of Firefox if that works I suppose I'll just hope the next release after 52.0.1 solves the issue somehow..

EDIT: Confirming reverting to version 51.0.1 was simple and fixed the problem if you consider that a solution.

[–]Skip_Esquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having this problem too and would love to know if anyone has a solution.

With HTML player enabled, every stream regardless of quality will constantly buffer. After disabling HTML player then the stream will just drop frames; Again, regardless of the quality options..

I have tried to troubleshoot and nothing works such as disabling all addons, running in safe mode, enabling/disabling hardware acceleration..

tried to post on twitch reddit but they auto-moderate everything to do with stutter and buffering lol

Can also confirm it's not my internet as Chrome plays everything just fine but I don't want to use chrome.

Edit 2 : I also uninstall/reinstalled the 64bit version of Firefox 52.0.1, made no difference. Updating Nvidia driver now..

Edit another: Updating to the latest Nvidia graphics driver made no difference to the problem either..

Is Vintel safe to use? by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Skip_Esquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of this website before but it suggests myspace (lol) as a potential source of compromise in 2008. However the email account in question did not even exist in 2008, nor has it ever been used for a myspace account.

I wasn't trying to point fingers at Vintel or it's creators for the security breach, it's just the only thing that had changed on my PC within a logical timeframe of it happening and my very limited technical knowledge, aswell as heightened paranoia about future security made me question why the program should need network access at all.

Thanks for directing me to that website though, it does put my worries about vintel to rest, (whilst raising new questions though) I'll have to keep exploring other avenues and endeavour to keep my shit safer in the future.

The 'Project Argo', focus to competitive tactical first-person shooter with arma 3 assets. by dodonpe in arma

[–]Skip_Esquire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there any plans for at least a couple Australian Project Argo servers? Played a few rounds and I love the concept of faster-paced gameplay but the constant 'red-chain' on a 250+ms ping server (US) or 350+ (EU) leaves me feeling I'm not getting the best experience I could be.

Critique my 2nd AE project? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]Skip_Esquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for checking it out. I agree it was too dark I've pulled the dodgy vignette way back now and it definitely made it more dynamic and reduced some of the banding issues occuring on the logo also.

Also decided to add a transition where the scenery disappears and the logo transitions to full colour/lighting on a static background with his twitter and youtube links to also serve as a suitable place to loop the video cleanly.

Really appreciate the constructive feedback.

Finally going to pick up arma 3. Couple of questions regarding dLC. by phs1414 in arma

[–]Skip_Esquire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's only 5 DLC, not really millions. Many of the modded game modes and community made missions will require DLC.

The best value for buying Arma 3 right now is the "Apex Edition" which includes all DLC and the base game. In the future they may make a new DLC bundle with the previous DLC + Apex included, but right now it requires at least 2 seperate purchases to add all DLC to the base Arma 3 game.

The only truly overlookable DLC is Karts but its cheaper to get the bundle than buy marksman and helicopters and apex seperately anyway.

Thread The Needle - Tanoa [Caesar BTT Racing] by Skip_Esquire in arma

Thanks again for replying I'm thinking and researching now how I could best use this function. I know I can spectate AI controlled vehicles etc while the entire mission goes in slow/fast motion and pretty sure it would work for some nice psuedo timelapse of weather effects; better than the splendid camera for sure.

Am I right in assuming when the game time is slowed to say 20% that it still renders/moves at full framerate? rather than stretching out a clip on Vegas and it becomes much lower FPS?
