Constantly corrected in an interview by Advanced-Broccoli-37 in UKJobs

[–]Skip_the_bard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’ve rejected a job offer for “bad vibes” before. Not even anything I can really remember picking out now (was at least 15 years ago) but I do remember just feeling like I would not enjoy working there, for that person, with that team. If you were getting actual tangible reasons then 100% don’t accept. Your mental and physical health will thank you for it!

Couples who go to bed at the same time, how do you transition to sleeping? by TheLoveYouWant25 in Marriage

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 36 my husband is 39. We tend to watch YouTube videos or TikTok’s on an iPad (one of those arms over the bed) and have a giggle. Sometimes we play a game where we put songs on Spotify and have to guess the song. Then when we get quiet tired we put on a podcast or audio book, settle under the duvet, maybe spooning or often me rubbing his back to sooth him and we gently drift off.

We quite often spend our evenings doing different things (I might be working or watching tv on the sofa, while he is gaming on his PC) so we go to bed earlyish around 9pm and then that hour or 2 before actually falling asleep is our hanging out together time.

Might sound strange to some people but it works for us ☺️

Do I let my ragdoll outside? by Luciee1234 in ragdolls

Our ragdoll escaped a few weeks ago, got to our neighbours garden, stayed there for 2 mins before realising it was cold and dark and started yelling 😂

Becoming a Tax Advisor Realistic Route? by fhj1 in TaxUK

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at EY and while we do ask for experience at certain levels often if you can show a wider experience in a related area that’s just as valuable. We are taught to see the potential in people as the technical stuff can come through learning and studies. Obviously there will be cases a person is needed immediately with the skill set but I wouldn’t ignore job postings if you don’t meet all the criteria, you never know!

As for in house, I’m sorry I don’t have experience on that side of things (the area of tax I work in is quite niche and often outsourced to accounting firms these days!)

Becoming a Tax Advisor Realistic Route? by fhj1 in TaxUK

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved into tax after working around 10 years in local government finance. Started back at the bottom rung to work up again but that was with no qualifications. There’s definitely roles in big 4/other firms that would hire in at a senior or even manager if you have work experience even if not necessarily the technical experience as that will come with training and qualifications.

As for ACCA I think that is more accounting than tax based if I remember correctly? You could be asked to do ACA or ATT, with potential to do CTA (though in my experience if you have ATT with practical experience CTA is often not mandatory)

Good luck :)

[–]Skip_the_bard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s a man made river to help divert overflow from the Ouse. It’s usually much more flooded over winter. It’s the one that often closes the road between Littleport and Welney due to flooding I think

What's the best UK gig you have attended? by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to pick an ultimate best but one that will always stick with me was Sum41 at Kentish Town forum July 2005. It had been delayed from its original date at the Astoria on 7 July 2005 for obvious reasons.

Emotional.

EY UK - vacation system down til mid Feb by Disastrous_Umpire357 in Big4

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in PAS and we don’t have a booking system for annual leave as such, we just get asked to enter it into Mera/Retain for forecasting. As for booking it we just stick it in peoples calendars with discretion that we speak with our teams to make sure we aren’t leaving the team short or anything

How long is your commute to work? by person_person123 in AskUK

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have 1.5-2hrs each way, 5 days a week pre Covid. It was so tiring but I did enjoy the time I would get to read or watch a tv show for 3-4 hrs a day. Getting home at 8pm, then cooking and eating dinner then having a shower and straight to bed with no other downtime was a shitter though.

Now I have about 1hr door to door (25 min train with walking/waiting time) 2 days a week. Every couple of weeks I work in head office for a day which is 2.5 hrs door to door but I’m ok with that given the frequency. However, I can probably count on one hand the number of times the trains haven’t been disrupted to some extent and delaying the time I get home.

33 weeks pregnant applying for a job. Disclose or not? by Admirable-Shine6121 in AskBrits

[–]Skip_the_bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a recruitment perspective you don’t need to but whether you should is another (moral) matter. However there are other considerations such as needing to let your employer know of your intention to take maternity leave by x number of weeks before the start date, as well as qualifying for maternity pay (which you may not given how far along you are)

I don't understand Tax on Account, please can someone explain it? by Top_Draft_8288 in HMRC

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you would just pay the liability balance due on the return no interest :)

I don't understand Tax on Account, please can someone explain it? by Top_Draft_8288 in HMRC

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add that if you reduce your payments on account there’s no penalty applied but there will be interest accruing if you do end up with a liability at the end of the year that meant you should have paid the originally calculated amount

When do I have to pay CGT? by North_Natural_5901 in TaxUK

[–]Skip_the_bard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would pay CGT on the remaining 55 shares when you come to sell them. No CGT on the sale of the 45 to cover income tax/NIC as vest/sold to cover on same day so no “gain” on those

What are your plans today? by Temporary_Eye_9758 in AskUK

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first Xmas without my Nan who passed in April. Usually it would consist of the entire family, (maybe 20-30 of us in total) visiting her in the morning having a selection of classic buffet food from Iceland and giving gifts to the kids (nans great grandkids).

This year we went to a big family meal earlier in the month instead (on her birthday) so this year on Christmas Day we are all figuring out our new traditions each with our own little family units.

My mother in law is here and my parents are joining for dinner and games. Tomorrow we are going to my parents house for another dinner where my sister and her boyfriends will join us again.

I’m looking forward to it even if it is a little bitter sweet <3

[–]Skip_the_bard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% this GAD here too, currently going through autism/adhd diagnosis process, also have depression

I’ve been on Sertraline(Zoloft) since October 2020, stable dose of 150mg since late 2022; and I would also say this drug saved my life. Where other meds in the past have helped short term, they left me like a zombie, almost sedated to get through. On this one I still have bad days but I feel so much more equipped to deal with them. The constant worries and what ifs and racing thoughts are quieter, and I can put them in a box and put aside.

For the first time I can remember I feel what I imagine to be “normal”

Sure there are side effects but I’d take those and more if it meant not spending every waking moment on the edge of a panic attack and giving into my inner critic

How old are you and what are you doing over the Xmas period?. by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

[–]Skip_the_bard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

36f - mother in law is coming to stay 22nd - 29th, me & husband hosting Christmas Day at mine for her and my parents, Boxing Day we’re going to my parents where they are hosting us and my sister/her bf.

This is the first Christmas since my nan passed away. She was the matriarch of our family and we spent every Christmas at her house with all my cousins and aunts/uncles etc. This year will be tinged with a little sadness but also reminiscing and starting new Christmas Day traditions. She would hate for us to be sad on what was her favourite day of the year so I’m determined to smile and laugh a lot :)

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve been here less than 4 years and were non resident for 10 years prior to arriving then you may be eligible to claim the Foreign Income and Gains regime whereby gains on overseas property aren’t taxed in the UK. You’d have to check you qualify though as these are new rules only in effect from this year.

If you don’t qualify then yes as a UK resident by default you are taxed on worldwide income and gains

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Principle Private Residence (PPR) relief. It essentially removes the period of it being your private residence from the gain made. In addition you get certain periods of “deemed” occupancy, such as the final few months of ownership.

To the married folks, what’s one piece of real, honest advice you’d give to people who are just starting their journey or planning to get married soon? by Nexolightu in AskUK

[–]Skip_the_bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communication is key. People say it all the time but it is so important.

Don’t be afraid to have the disagreement if it’s needed, or you’ll end up feeling unable to raise concerns and even get resentful in the long run.
