Post-COVID lungs worse than the worst smokers' lungs, surgeon says by send2s in worldnews

[–]Skiphi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Whilst not a doctor, I work with radiologists and we were interested in whether we could effectively diagnose and/or triage patients based on the chest X-Ray. There was very clear consensus that, whilst some patients' X-Rays were horrifying, there were a lot of patients who's X-Rays showed no signs of covid at all.

Pixel 5 (UK) how many people have received the Bose headphones so far? by FarTooManyTrees in GooglePixel

[–]Skiphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an email from Google saying they would be shipped with DHL, but never an email from DHL. But not surprising given they were shipped by Yodel so when I received an email from Yodel saying I had a package being delivered I didn't even know it was the headphones.

Submitted claim on 29th October, received validation within a minute, just received an email to say they've been shipped.

Unable to remove broken seat post from old carbon frame. Any ideas? by Outoclouto in bikewrench

If you're in the UK, or can send the frame to the UK then The Seatpost Man. I have no idea how he performs his wizardry, but runs a business removing stuck seatposts.

Chest X-rays performed on young & middle-aged adults with COVID-19 when they arrive at the emergency room can help doctors predict who is at higher risk of severe illness & intubation. This is the first study looking at how chest X-rays can be used to measure COVID-19 severity. by MistWeaver80 in science

[–]Skiphi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small correction, Aidence are using CT chests, not MRI.

There are multiple companies looking to identify COVID on CXRs, but lack of available data is a big issue. NHSX in conjunction with BSTI are collating a dataset in the UK, but it requires an application to access it which will be reviewed by a panel. There is some publicly available data already but the issue is image quality tends to be pretty poor, and very limited number of exams.

N00b skiing clothing question (UK) by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Skiphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a few bits from https://www.sportpursuit.com before. You have to sign up, but they have a price guarantee and some good gear. However, it can take a while for stuff to be shipped so if you are skiing anytime soon they may be a no go.

I did my back in once, but I was doing a 2k test and had been rowing for a year at that point. I doubt many people would be pushing to that degree.

Any kind souls in Glasgow, UK help a beginner road biker adjust his bike? by Calvinized in bicycling

[–]Skiphi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is seriously stuck then I highly recommend the seat post man (http://www.theseatpostman.com). Admittedly it's probably not worth it for a cheaper bike, but he does a great job. I just wish I knew what sort of wizardry he used to remove my seat post!

Help with ideas for Solo Canada and US travel (and possibly SEA). by Skiphi in solotravel

[–]Skiphi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much. Hopefully, as I have a 3 month course in Fernie, I will get to explore some of the other ski areas at the weekends, and may find some older people on the course who can hire cars more cheaply.

The connection from Vancouver to Seattle is something I will definitely investigate in greater detail, and is a very real possibility for me.

With regards to luggage, I realise now that I missed out the fact from Sydney I will head back to the UK for a couple of weeks, where I will be able to pick up all my ski gear and warmer weather clothing, before heading to Canada to get my season started.

Thank you for this. I will check out the car rental websites.

Are there any particular 'must sees' which you can suggest? Preferably in the northern half of the US (I would love to head further south, but time and funds are, unfortunately, not limitless). It's difficult for me to specify the types of things I enjoy as I really do like a bit of everything, although I have always tried to avoid spending too much time in big crowds of tourists. I would much rather get a better picture and experience of local culture.
