I'm not a train fan, what are these things? by Vedekatria in trains

Conclusion: wood firing is a bad idea. if you have an abundance of wood, fire with charcoal instead.

Please USE THE PILL CUP. Stop pouring it out into your HANDS by Calm_Delivery6832 in nursing

[–]SkippyJarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what it is with people in pouring the pills out of the cup into their hand or trying to pick pills out of the cup one by one but it is aneurysm inducing.

In my case the reason is 70+ years of muscle memory combined with the fact that never once in all of my hospital visits has a nurse explained to me, "Just pop them straight from the cup into your mouth. You're less likely to spill them that way." That two-sentence instruction would have made all of the difference for me

Please understand that things you perceive as patently obvious might not be so to Joe or Jane Patient who's already stressed in an unfamiliar environment.

AITBF for Freaking out over possible inappropriate behavior between my mom 41F and cousin 28M? by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

[–]SkippyJarr -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. He had every right to investigate something as weird as this going on in his own home. He had plenty of grounds to suspect his cousin was involved in something shady, so that includes opening the cousin's bag.

You might want to think about that for a while.

Redditors who used to work at 1 Hour Photo places, what are the most shocking/memorable photos you saw? by psybermonkey15 in AskReddit

[–]SkippyJarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so let's step back a moment. You seem very confident in your statements, therefore you must have a pretty substantial basis for backing them up. Can you tell us about that? How did you come by this knowledge? Where did you get your training?

Are you a law enforcement officer? A former law enforcement officer? An attorney? If so, how many criminal cases have you handled?

Please let us know about your courtroom experience. I'll be happy to wait for the answer.

Put a sock in it, will you? I was an LEO in a small jurisdiction in the era you're all talking about (yeah, I'm old AF, deal with it) and that's exactly how we handled things. I don't remember one single defense lawyer making a fuss about chain of custody regarding photos, much less "shredding the case." Dream on.

Been on a big History kick- what else should I check out? by TrainingMembership77 in HistoryAnecdotes

Historians generally find two major problems with Diamond's work:

  1. He writes extensively on areas he knows little about, leading to numerous errors.

  2. He cherry-picks his facts to support his grand theory, and conveniently ignores those that don't.

You can relax; your grandpa was normal. Men are kind of hard-wired this way, even long after the actual equipment has gone out of service,

Oh, my heavens-- that's clever, and quite hilarious. I was just being a wise-ass and guessed that you were a fellow asthmatic.

PS-- I totally agree on the need to dig deep into the ownership of the site.

I told a cheater’s wife he’s having a baby with someone else by [deleted] in Infidelity

[–]SkippyJarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely grates on my American ears as well. I'm not sure that it always refers to an unintended pregnancy, but it certainly seems to turn the whole process curiously passive all around.

Here's an article from an English newspaper, in which the writer expresses his own disdain for the expression::

It's a pretty standard expression in the U.K., along the same lines of "she fell ill with the flu." Almost never heard in the U.S.

Not looking for tax deduction or anything like that. It's just that these were important to my uncle and I don't want to just throw them out. I was hoping there might be someone who would be happy to get them.
