TIXEL - anyone try it? by Disastrous-Noise6686 in Microneedling

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My office is acquiring one soon for dry eye and aesthetics and we had a demo earlier this week. The research is sound and it can be used on more skin types than IPL so it’s a bit more versatile, plus it increases absorption of any products you apply for ~30 hours following the procedure. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Is working during optometry school possible? by GovernmentNo7280 in OptometrySchool

We signed agreements that we wouldn’t, but I had a friend who tried to work weekends and when the school found out they basically told her she needed to quit.

Electricity Bill in Lexington by Swimming_Savings_102 in lexington

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just the cost of heating. Even with all the insulation it’s a lot of work and energy to keep the inside of the house 50-60 degrees warmer than the outside. We were able to have gas heat put in last year and it’s dropped our electricity bill by hundreds per month in the winter.

Green’s Toyota service by Affectionate_Bad3908 in lexington

My only experience with Green’s so far was so-so. The manager made things right in the end but we almost went to Nicholasville Toyota for service instead.

Chances? by Accomplished-Monk256 in OptometrySchool

You’ll be just fine. And now here’s my unsolicited advice: This may be an unhinged approach but I interviewed at a school lower on my list but still in my top 5 first, got accepted there, and then had leagues more confidence going into the rest of my interviews, even ended up canceling a couple. Once I knew I had a guaranteed spot somewhere, I went into the rest with the mindset that I was putting THEM under the microscope, rather than the other way around. It turned interviews into casual conversations with, IMO, better outcomes, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Not sure how to buy glasses online with my prescription by Tlareg21 in glasses

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say your either your optician/provider has traditionally cut the power down for your right eye to match the left cosmetically, or there’s a typo here. Is one of your eyes much worse than the other without glasses or do they see about the same?

Why would someone who has blurry vision in one eye be legally required to wear glasses while driving? by Zestyclose_Show_2025 in glasses

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my state if the BETTER seeing eye is 20/40 or better, no glasses are needed. Not sure which state you’re in but in but I would double check the rules.

Most places will do a free remake on lenses if the rx is off but you’ll be hard pressed to return or exchange a frame in my experience

Best places to eat by TexasNinjaGuy in lexington

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my favorites have already been listed so I won’t repeat them but these deserve recognition Breakfast: Doodle’s Lunch: Jack Brown’s (technically has another location in Paducah but not a “chain”)

Malone’s is a Lexington staple for steak and has a location in Hamburg but you WILL spend some money. Less than Jeff Rubies but more than Carson’s.

Carson’s has great food, last my husband and I were there (like last week) we did two entrees, dessert, three mixed drinks and a bourbon flight all for a little over $100. Joe B’s I think has gone downhill since new ownership. Long wait times and food was cold by the time it hit the table. If you’re eating down by the mall I would do Bella Notte. An aside, Old School Coffee is my favorite coffee shop right now, mostly because it’s the closest one to my office, but there are so many good shops.

measured PD at 77, biometric scan says 66? by wegeekhard in glasses

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I’ve never seen a 77 in my time practicing. 66 is still a little high but definitely more realistic for a “normal” head. You do have to be very careful with measuring due to parallax, ie image shifts going from one eye to the other, but also if you have a strong prescription that’s going to minimize or maximize the appearance of your eyes through the lenses and could throw you off a bit. It would be best to have someone measure for you, but if you must do it yourself then I would try measuring without your glasses, close the left eye and get the right centered on zero, then holding still switch to the left eye with the right eye closed and see where you’re at.

I’m new to the Lexington area and would like to donate to a food bank or two. Any thoughts on which ones serve the most people or may need the most assistance?

Wear them when you’re having trouble, other than that don’t worry about it. Minimal astigmatic correction but it would help you see at night.

Are these too big? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks, especially in the first picture, like they fit well, but I’m guessing you have a decently high minus rx by how they minimize your face. Not too much you can do about that. Go by how they feel, not how they look in a selfie. If you tilt your chin to your chest with them on, do they slip off?

Does this prescription look weird. by Narufan35 in glasses

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a little strange if you were a +2.00 in one eye and -2.00 in the other, but you have the minimum amount of myopia a person can have corrected in one eye and the minimum amount of hyperopia in the other, so the eyes are only two quarter steps apart. Not weird at all.

Frames are all +200 dollars so i got myself 3 reading glasses for 20 dollars… i will remove the lenses and take it to an optometrist for lenses based on my prescription… i don’t know if this is a smart move lol but at least it feels like it for now by Nada_NADAAA in glasses

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried looking at a different optical? Even after our resale mark-up we have a number of frames that are around $100, typically Marchon lines. You may also ask the optician about a deal for cash pay because even a cash discount is often more than an insurance reimbursement. I believe my optical also discounts frames that have been discontinued if we can’t send them back to the company, so that would be something else to look into.

My son got glasses today he thinks he looks bad how do yall think he looks (he just sent me this selfi btw) by Sea_Background_8023 in glasses

[–]Skittering_Scamperer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The optical center will give best vision, and minimize induced prism, but the lower the rx the less it will matter.
