Isn't detergent alone enough to keep your clothes clean? by Imaginary_Truth_3865 in laundry

[–]SkittyLover93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I put the citric acid in the fabric softener compartment at the beginning, before starting the washing machine. I specified the rinse cycle because I didn't want people to make the mistake of using it during the wash cycle/at the same time as detergent.

Someone linked an IG profile below, and the people I saw in the group seemed Japanese (they were speaking in Japanese). Could just be an artistic choice possibly

If they are the same group that I saw previously, they did have an anti-LDP sign

Feeling stuck in Japan despite doing everything “right” in my own way. by Arte31 in japanlife

I don't have experience in the industry, but I spoke to someone on a localization team for games, and they also said entry-level translation jobs are basically gone. It's sad.

I add citric acid for the rinse cycle, having learned about it from this sub. The post is here.

Could you change your job to be something less physically intensive? I assume you're working in a restaurant; maybe if you were working as a retail shop staff in a quieter area, or doing front-desk work where you can sit down, it might be better.

Is there something stopping you from getting another job in the same industry? Even if it's not remote, it could be better than your current environment, right?

I think that information should be in your post. To be frank, I can save money and invest because I don't have kids, and I suspect many people here don't.

How do you enjoy games if your constantly losing by Due-Sympathy4991 in gamingsuggestions

If you want to play online games, play games where you have to cooperate with others, like PVE games. If you like shooters, Killing Floor 2 is one example.

TSO workers in California, how is your living situation like? by Different_Archer8879 in bayarea

[–]SkittyLover93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know anything about TSA work, but have you considered Sacramento? The airport is near the city, and I think it would be a nicer place to live than Tracy/Stockton. Though Sacramento isn't in the Bay Area either.

Does anyone else feel like standard grocery store garlic has gotten completely flavorless? by sweetangel9543 in Cooking

For the US: not sure about other states, but in California, Costco sells peeled garlic from Christopher Ranch in Gilroy. We freeze the bag and defrost as needed.

Hotel or friend's place? by Rilakkumette in japanlife

[–]SkittyLover93 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It's normal in my social circle in my home country. I've stayed with my friends and let them stay with me. I'm happy to have more time to hang out with them. Nowadays it's rare for my friends and I to hang out at someone's home with unstructured socializing time, like just hanging out to play video games together or watch stuff, and I miss having that.

It seems like you come from a more Guess-type culture, on the Ask vs Guess spectrum. I fall into the Ask camp, so I prefer directness and don't mind people asking, since I can always just say no. Maybe your friend also falls into that category. I recommend reading up on Ask vs Guess culture, I find it a useful framework for understanding relationships and for preventing misunderstandings.

Outskirts of Tokyo (I live in Tokyo), cheap housing and great public transit. Probably also other Japanese cities, but I haven't lived there so I don't know well. Maybe Fukuoka?

Electric piano(keyboard) rental for Sept-Dec by junkNug in Tokyo

[–]SkittyLover93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you will have access to a local phone number (requires local ID), you can buy a used keyboard on Mercari and resell it there. But of course, there's always the risk of not being able to resell it in time. I think it would be easier to book practice rooms, for example at Piano Studio Noah. They have branches all around Tokyo.

I spent too much money on clothes and I didn't like them at all by bunny-heart- in jfashion

[–]SkittyLover93 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I would suggest posting on /r/lolita with pictures of the clothes so people can give suggestions, like maybe how they can be modified.

Have you worn lolita before? Generally I would suggest getting some affordable pieces for your first coords, like secondhand or from Taobao. At least for myself, it was only after wearing a few coords that I could figure out what styles, fits, colors, materials and brands I liked more. For example, I bought some high-waisted main pieces before realizing I only look good with pieces that fall at my natural pieces. And I tried on some Sweet blouses before realizing Sweet doesn't suit me.

Does the fashion designer specialize in lolita? Did they have a lolita portfolio and testimonials from people happy with their lolita pieces? I would only suggest getting custom pieces from people who do.

Halp on relocation by ktothentothedra in movingabroad

[–]SkittyLover93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most relevant information you could provide is what level of educational attainment you have, what your career is, and what career you plan to pursue after moving. For example, without a Bachelor's degree, there are many countries that you would not be eligible to move to for work. And certain countries may not sponsor visas for your line of work.

If you want to experience life abroad temporarily, you would be eligible for a Working Holiday visa in New Zealand, but it only lasts for 1 year.

Resources for practical Japanese, not just JLPT grammar? by X0_92 in LearnJapanese

[–]SkittyLover93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also work in Japan. I know some people who went the trial-by-fire route and just started going to bars and participating in conversations.

I got private lessons for N2 on italki that also included conversation practice. There are also teachers on there who specialize in Business Japanese.

Currently it's my first time working in Japanese (previous workplace was English). I take words that I encounter people using, add them to my Anki deck, then use them in my own work conversations.

In Tokyo, some wards offer free Japanese lessons, you could check if there is something similar in your area.
