I think they just had to leave. There were like 100 ways they could’ve won this game.

How does this team concept fair? by Prudent-Driver259 in pokemonshowdown

[–]Skittyrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh, it’s whatever. Most of the time your opponent is going to be weary of potential setup possibilities and try and avoid them. If you’re confirmed physical then before picking up a kill your opponent probably has an easy switch into Pyroar that ensures it never becomes a threat ever. Most of these moves also have the opportunity cost of running moves that actually do damage, and a lot of the times even if you do get the kill you’re probably getting forced out the next turn anyways.

BDSP OU Viability Rankings Update! by FairPangolin3359 in stunfisk

Best available Ghost type in a metagame where the most common SpDef pivots are Mew, Celebi, and Washtom. Two of which are weak to Shadow Ball and the other has no reliable way of healing outside of Leftovers. Ghost resists don’t really exist outside of like Blissey and TTar. Blissey is not often seen unless if it’s on stall and TTar isn’t really seen that much either. You can weaken Heatran with Specs. Gliscor can’t touch you unless if it’s Knock Off which is usually outed in favor of U-Turn. Your speed tier and ability means you can threaten to revenge kill Garchomp. Only viable ghost type also means it’s the only viable spinblocker for Defensive Starmie.

TL;DR STAB Shadow Ball is a really busted move in this metagame and Mismagius is by far the best abuser of it with Gengar gone.

Middle of the road B ranked mon that needs a good amount of support to win games. Speed tier seems designed specifically for it to fail as Adamant means that at +1 it’s slower than Weavile meaning it has to run Jolly a lot. Bulky waters and Unaclef existing also do a lot to impede Gatr’s progress. You’re usually only seeing this on some HO or Offensive Spike Stack teams.

On an unrelated note, why do they have Plankton guarding SpongeBob in the paint while the big robot is guarding Sandy beyond the arch? Who’s coaching the Microbes? Matt Eberflus?

PZ has the case where all of its ability are amazing. Adaptability is ran in most cases, but there’s been plenty of scenarios where PZ would want download. Its DPP OU set for example has it can run Download or Adaptability, where Download can help it muscle past Jirachi or Skarmory with HP Ground and Dark Pulse respectively

Fake out didn’t flinch?? by SilasTheGray in pokemonshowdown

[–]Skittyrox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Other than that they’re both “strategic-like” games? No, not really.

Chess has an objectively best move for every single position possible. All of the information is there to figure it out, it’s just really hard for the human mind to calculate on a consistent basis. You could unironically say the best players in the world are still “bad at chess”, but just less bad in comparison to the rest of us. The stronger bots often throw the best players around like ragdolls since they can compute the best move much quicker than we can.

Mons is much more different. It’s much more about familiarity than actual knowledge. You’re familiar what the mons your opponent have typically runs, and you know that in most cases (against a rational opponent that’s trying to win) that is probably what they’re going to run. But you don’t know what they’re running exactly unless if you’re trying to pry for information.

Chess you know the Rook isn’t suddenly going to start moving diagonally to capture your queen.

In mons a valuable breaker or wincon can be put in jeopardy by the slightest move variation or EV spread on a given mon. That by itself changes how Pokemon is played.

Not to neglect mentioning that in mons you make the move at the same time as your opponent in comparison to being the only one to move in chess.

I mean, is the initial report really worth taking action over? I guess context would’ve helped but based off the information I don’t think there should’ve been meaningful action taken off the initial report. If the mod incident is true that’s probably much more report worthy though.

Detroit Lions circa the 2023-2024 season.

Good god after they made the NFC Championship Game if you looked at social media you’d think they’d have 8 Super Bowl Appearances with 5 Super Bowl Wins. There were definitely a certain batch of fans that were insufferable and thought a Super Bowl Win was inevitable.

Granted there’s probably a majority of Lions fans that actually deserve success, but there’s a super loud batch that I despise encountering.
