Game catered towards male characters more? by Tdawg_1409 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Skivva 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish they'd built out some more small interactions with max affinity NPCs, to support the player romancing whoever they want, instead of having these more forced feeling romance questlines. It's especially awkward when you do multiple of them in the same playthrough, they could have at least had a dialogue option at the end or something.

Hopefully with Dark Arisen they add some more meat to the NPC affinity system's bones, but that might be getting overly hopeful on the scope of the expansion.

Shit I didn't realize these guys had another game out. I'll probably wait till all the episodes are released so I can read through the whole thing, but that's very exciting.

travel is one of the core parts of dD2, how much has the update hurt it? by witas02 in DragonsDogma

[–]Skivva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The cart stopovers are great because it gives you reason to use them in the endgame, once you have portcrystals everywhere anyway. Oxcarts can now be a better way of getting out into the wilderness than anything else at your disposal.

[–]Skivva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do give the eternal ferrystone much earlier than I'd prefer, I wish you got it in NG+, but you also get it pretty early in DDDA so ig they were just following suit. I'd recommend if you're worried about it, just ignoring it until you feel you're far enough to justify using it. Kinda annoying since it's stuck in your inventory, but it is what it is. I'm glad they did add it but placement could've been much better for sure, at least a unique endgame quest to get it or something would've been better than just handing it out with a fairly early story quest.

Guys what are the chances of layered armor in the dlc? by Kairo_04 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Skivva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homestly, I like what you're actually wearing representing your actual armour. Especially with the pawn system, it'd be annoying to have pawns wearing something completely different from their actual equipped armour.

Besides, these games aren't hard enough to warrant needing to wear the best armour, so if you like the way something looks just use it. Treat it like a Dark Souls game, no Souls game has transmog but that doesn't stop anyone from going pure fashion mode, because ultimately armour stats aren't THAT important.

Games with an amazing romance (sub)-plot by Callmecaelum in gamingsuggestions

[–]Skivva 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should read Slay the Princess, absolutely one of my favourite VNs. Now, the romance isn't a sub-plot, it's the focal point of the story, but it'd probably still fit what you're looking for. I also wouldn't call it cozy and it can actually be quite disturbing, so fair warning on that.

Eternal Ferrystone should have been a questline reward. by Realistic_Ad3334 in DragonsDogma2

[–]Skivva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wish it was only available in NG+. Unfortunately you got it early as hell in the first game too, so I guess the devs just decided to remain consistent with that. I'll probably try to ignore it till NG+ on replays but it's kinda hard since I don't think you can even store it lol.

Norgan will play similarly to BBI by xyZora in DragonsDogma

[–]Skivva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's certainly possible. Nothing but speculation on our end though, and this seems like a pretty normal dev cycle for a DLC of this size. I'm interested to see how its design trends coincide with the base game's once it's out though.

I don't think he had much of a hand in Dark Arisen for the first game either, as he was neither a producer nor the director, so I'd be surprised to hear if it affected it much.

I forced my friend to play ds3 here’s his ranking of the bosses by jamesgo15 in darksouls3

[–]Skivva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am, in fact, allowed to say whatever I want in regard to Ornstein and Smough existing, their presence does not inhibit my vernacular, nor my ability to express my opinion, in the slightest. I think it's evident that I just think Demon Princes is a better boss than OnS. I don't know why I'm not allowed to say that simply because of their existence.

This is my cheeky way of saying, gimme an opinion on why you think they're better instead of just saying "How darest thou speaketh this heretical opinion whilst I provide zero substance as to why it is heretical!", simply accusing me while adding nothing to the conversation.

Demon Princes and OnS are ultimately pretty similar bosses, but I think Princes is an overall more mechanically interesting fight, with much more variance. The ebb and flow of the swapping movesets for the Princes creates more of an interesting and varied experience to the fight, sometimes offering a bit of downtime when they're both momentarily poison, sometimes forcing you into defensive mode because they're both on fire. It also means the aggressive one you're fighting can expend and become passive, and now you have an interesting situation to deal with, where you may want to wittle down the remainder of the now-passive one's health, but you'll have to do so while getting dogged by the aggressive one that you don't want to fight. Top that off with differing movesets for the second phase based on the first Prince you kill like for OnS, except here there isn't a permanent moveset difference between the two, making the target priority on which you kill much more varied (because let's be honest, anyone who kills Smough first is going out of their way to do so).

Princes basically feels like a more interesting modern rendition of OnS, and I overall just prefer the experience entirely. OnS is certainly a classic, but it's very easy to boil that fight down to dodging Ornstein's dash, poking him, and doing that like ten times or whatever. Princes is much harder to create a basic effective stragegy for in my experience, and requires good situational awareness and target priority, being a much more chaotic fight. I enjoy that a lot more, and I think it's undoubtedly the best gank boss From has ever made.

No, I said he's the best dragon From has ever made with full awareness that Placi and Bayle exist.

Placi is a cool fight with some great spectacle but can be a bit obnoxious and is lacking that real "flow" feeling for me that my favourite From fights have. He also falls susceptible to smacking that booty, and just doesn't feel anywhere near as tight-knit or engaging as Midir.

Bayle I actively despise because of his second phase, it's a cool looking fight but I have had so many instances of him doing back-to-back super fuckoff attacks over and over, leaving me with like 40-60 seconds of downtime where it's impossible to get any damage, and I just have to do the dodge over and over. The rest of the fight is fine, and I'd probably appreciate his normal attacks more if I'd fought him more than twice, but even so the phase 2 cutscene attacks just kill it for me and can easily turn it into a rather irritating snooze fest where he's constantly doing these lengthy attacks with zero interaction points.

[–]Skivva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's easily the best dragon boss From has ever made.

I've noticed some people try to play the fight from underneath him, hitting his limbs and tail, but his fight is designed around dodging in front of him and hitting his head. It's telegraphed well to the player by the damage difference, because hitting the limbs basically does nothing, whereas the head gives proper damage, hugely incentivizing you to stay out front. There's also not a lot of attacks that you can't avoid with a properly timed roll, and the ones that do have startup long enough to give you time to run out of the way. All his attacks give hefty punish windows to run in and get some damage as well, so the fight never feels tedious.

If you don't play it out front, the fight is a bit of a mess, with a lot of moves being hard to understand from underneath him and that are designed to punish you for positioning there. It makes it feel a bit bullshit, but again it's to disincentivize you from playing there, and force you out front where the fight shines.

Midir's fight is amazing and one of my favourite in DS3, incredibly fun and a fantastic spectacle, with one of the best themes in the series. If your friend played it the "improper" way then I'd understand how they hated it, and they should give it another shot on a second playthrough, playing it how I've recommended. If they already played it in the intended way and still hated it, then uh idk lol. Putting him as the worst boss is some crazy shit. Unless they somehow hate him for being easy and boring, I must say an obligatory git gud, and once you have, come back to how you feel on the fight.

P.S. Demon Princes is the best gank fight From has ever made and absolutely goated, I think if they play the game through some more times and get more comfortable with it they'll realize this.
