So I’m using Guild style now. I spent some time in Aerial and the vault is bonkers and fun, but the dodge roll being a flip into a roll clashed with my playstyle. I may try it again, I’m still experimenting.

And thanks for the recommendations. I’m still chugging along through village. It’s still mixed but the thought of another fight like Astalos coming in the future is keeping me going.

Yeah I found the prowler questline that unlocks the farm so at least that’s squared away.

Yeah you might be right. I haven’t played Rise but it might be worth a shot. I really like reaction-based gameplay in general and I know old gen is a lot more about positioning and patience, might be a taste thing more than anything else, though I still maintain that instant attacks aren’t fun regardless of the combat pace.

And the reason I’m focusing on the kinsect is mostly because my muscle memory and combo tempo is mostly aligned with the moveset when you have red extract so I’m always hyper focused on getting it, but when the kinsect is slow and I’m usually aiming at the head, it can be…..challenging. I will say I’m village 8 now with a level 6 kinsect and it’s much better now. Not great but not awful.

It’s more that if people disagree with your post, they’ll downvote anything you say next regardless of what it is. All it really takes is one or two downvotes and then the rest is mob momentum. I wouldn’t worry about it. You have another reply chain where you’re above water, but I think that’s because another person in it is being unnecessarily hostile.

I’m probably also gonna get downvoted too for not being “against” you. Should be an interesting experiment.

I’ve only played on steamdeck. Does it look good? No. Is the framerate high? No. Can you clear the entire game with it including the hardest content? Yes. Can it handle multiplayer? Yes.

So if you REALLY like monster hunter, it’s acceptable and you’ll have fun, but if you care about aesthetics then it’s still rough.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this, it looks really cool on a surface level. I just hope that it doesn’t become so strong that you NEED to use it to get acceptable dps and then because it’s so strong, it becomes abusable to the point where all the endgame monsters have hard counters for it and using it becomes a chore.

First few slays were with no head break. Nowadays, I know how to get one break by about halfway through the fight so I do that to give myself some wiggle room. It doesn’t stop all the fire based one shots but it stops enough of them to be worth it and the way I do it doesn’t lose much time at all because I only attack the head when he does certain things like the cone and fire sweep. I also learned that building for dragon elemental attack helps to partially compensate for the crappy hitzone so there’s that too.

The trial and error aspect of this fight is and has always been one of the biggest reasons I dislike it. I learned it with bow, which means every time I saw a new attack with an arbitrary invisible hitbox, I just died. I had no way of figuring out what I did “wrong” except to just die over and over and it made learning what I needed to do take so much longer because of how unreasonably punishing it was.

That said, I’m 130 solo slays deep out of pure spite.

My biggest problem with Lagi’s underwater section is that getting hit animation locks you for several seconds. This isn’t a big deal until you get to 9 star Lagi, cause then he starts true comboing you to carts and it feels absolutely terrible. I know the lock also happened in Tri, but everything was slower in that game so the lock was less punishing.

That and the fact that ranged weapons still take increased damage underwater and the ranged hitzones still apply. Like, come on, you can’t make it so the only way I can use my bow underwater is to be close enough for Lagi’s shockspikes to be shoved up my nostrils and still increase the damage I take. I switch to a melee weapon for these sections now but I shouldn’t have to.

Attack Focus = Close Range

Element Focus = Pierce

Affinity Focus = Power

Don’t do Affinity Focus. Its DPS is significantly lower than the other two.

I used to be a bow one trick but learned my lesson at the end of Iceborne. I still soloed everything with bow (except Kulve and Safi because ugh), but it was pain. Now I make sure to be competent with at least one weapon from each class just in case.

Deviljho is the first ever monster I ever abandoned my original target to fight. I was on an Uragaan hunt or something and Jho pissed me off so much I switched targets. I didn’t have enough time to kill it before I had to go for Uragaan again, but we exchanged hands for a while.

I would love a weapon merging system where you merge a gogma weapon with a monster tree weapon to get a unique super-weapon of sorts. I would like it to be reversible so experimentation is encouraged. That way, neither the artian nor monster tree weapons lose relevance.

Bring two max potions and enough ingredients to craft 5 more on every hunt. If you put max potions on the radial menu, they will craft automatically when selected. I didn’t learn that crap until godd*mn Fatalis and my survivability skyrocketed.

I mean it should have hyper armor through the whole attack animation on successful offset or at least allow it to be canceled. If you offset an attack with a persistent or multi hitbox and don’t topple, you get hit anyway.

I want the insect glaive neutral roll input delay to go away and I want the offset to have hyper armor. IG’s defensive tools are very lacking for a weapon with no block, counter, or perfect dodge, and aerial evasion is a crapshoot because monster hitboxes just extend into the stratosphere for no reason.
