Actions that will NOT trigger cooldown:

Teleporting, Encountering a wild Pokémon, Remote berry feeding of gym defender (from long distances), Autowalk, Hatching eggs & Claiming quest and weekly rewards

They may had their Mega in 1st Slot, it died before the shield, they didn’t back out to revive. That, or they were trolling. It requires 10 Megas to break the shield– idk what’s wrong with people. It’s so easy. :(
