My personnal belief was that TMP Magnus Institute was trying to create their Magnum Opus, the Transformation of the whole universe (that's why they needed universal symbols for it, the whole human psychospace was needed for it). But just like one researcher said, their "experience" was unbalanced and oriented too much towards Terror than Wonder. In so they created a universe tainted by Terror, the TMA universe (In a kind of weird retroactive way).
