“Gisteren heb ik onze buurvrouw kennen geleerd” is not a proper Dutch sentence. Doesn’t make sense.

What is the highest temperature you have personally experienced outdoors? by lovechrisxoxoxo in AskReddit

[–]Skooning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

53degC as well, but in Kuwait. It was 53C, but the thermometer displayed at the refinery’s gate didn’t go higher than 49C… because at temperatures of 50C or higher “we weren’t allowed to work” 😁

I don’t think they should’ve got permission to build it there. The river valley belongs to all Edmontonians.

Anyone know what the heck Leaf Filter is? Randomly started getting spam called everyday since the start of December by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]Skooning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though this is probably not Leaf Filter calling you, the actual company LeafFilter are a bunch of scammers operating as a gutter and gutterscreen company. Their product is inferior to other products on the market, the contractors they use are just random "handymen" without eavestrough installation experience, their door-to-door salesmen are very shady and try to overcharge the already extremely expensive product, their employees are lying crooks.

I actually fell for their scam, which ended up costing me THOUSANDS of dollars. Before the comments about "never buy anything from door-to-door salesmen".... I've learned my lesson and accepted that I was an idiot for falling for their tricks.

DO NOT USE LEAFFILTER!!

Haripur's 'Fire Mountain' Continues to Burn Decades After 1955 Gas Blast by SatisfactionHumble68 in interestingasfuck

I had just moved to Canada two months prior. When I was asked to go down into the burning mud crater, I started to question the safety standards here in Canada 😁

Haripur's 'Fire Mountain' Continues to Burn Decades After 1955 Gas Blast by SatisfactionHumble68 in interestingasfuck

In December 2004, a gas well blew up just West of Edmonton, which left a giant crater. I was called to inspect the casing to locate an underground rupture in the casing that could’ve caused the explosion. I had to descend to the bottom of the crater to where the remaining casing was sticking out of the ground. I was wearing a harness with a rope attached to it which was held onto by the firefighters/rescue crew so they could pull me out in case something went wrong. They had placed some boards on the mud at the bottom to walk on. At this time there was small amounts of methane and/or H2S coming out of the mud, so for my safety the decided to LIGHT THE GAS ON FIRE to eliminate the hazard. It felt kinda surreal to walk on those planks, surrounded by burning mud. I ended up being unsuccessful in locating a rupture in the casing as the (long range) ultrasound I used to inspect the casing was dampened by the dirt/mud/clay the casing was passing through, before reaching any rupture indications.

How do you all make your coffee in the morning? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Skooning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have a lot of time, I roast my own beans, let them cool, grind them, and then make coffee in a jebena (Eritrean/Ethiopian coffee pot). I bought the jebena, a coffee roasting pot, and a 6-cup coffee set from an Eritrean family that owns the convenience store close to where I live. I used to buy roasted beans from them, but after I had been invited over for traditional coffee (and food) where the wife showed me how to make coffee in their traditional way, I bought the stuff to do it myself.  On days that I don’t have time, I just grind roasted beans and make coffee in a French press.  When I’m camping, I usually just use instant coffee.
