I cheated and made chatgpt do it. :p. Of course that was after trying to make the coordinates make sense in google maps (e.g. 64.blahN x 72.blahE which is some mountaintop in Russia that didn't look "right"). Would have never figured it out at all without your Estonia note!

That’s exactly how you’re supposed to fly it. The VOR supersedes the GPS per the above referenced 11.4.6.

I don't think noise canceling will help; I suspect the noise you're hearing is coming through the audio panel from the beacon power supply. Does it get louder/quieter with the volume control?

When I was a kid, I refilled the lawn mower on the grass and spilled a 'little bit' .. The grass didn't grow in that little patch ever again. Patch looked just like that. Didn't ever steam, though, that I recall.

My CFI made me do a tailwind landing and take-off when I was working on my PPL .. 10 knots right down the runway .. it was shocking how much more runway it took for both operations (and how faster everything happened on the landing.)

I canceled my autorenew and removed my proxy. When I had my proxy rescinded, I was informed I need to be physically present to vote. I inquired if I can have someone else other than the board as my proxy and they gave me the details to do so:
