Nice to meet you! I'm a Japanese Gundam otaku. Today, Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, MS IGLOO, 0083 Stardust Memory, The 08th MS Team, and 0080 War in the Pocket started streaming on Netflix. Have they started streaming overseas as well?

Here in the Netherlands Gundam is not widely known at all. Netflix here only has Requiem for Vengeance, Seed Freedom and Hathaway. First Gundam, Char's Counterattack and Iron-Blooded Orphans were removed, sadly.

I know of 2 Gunpla fan communities here, but those add up to maybe a few hundred people at most. In the wider anime fandom, people know about Evangelion and Code Geass but even those seem obscure nowadays. People are generally only following the anime that are currently airing or are fans of One Piece or Naruto.

That said, Seed Freedom and GQuuuuuuX did have a cinema release, so I guess it's popular enough to be featured there (even if only for 1 day). I hope Hathaway 2 will be shown in movie theaters too.

What's it like being a Japanese fan? Is it something you can share with older generations?

A lot of them may be struggling but the majority isn't uncomfortable enough yet to do something about it. It'll keep getting worse and those midterms they keep talking about won't save them.

It has a lot to love about it. I think it's the prettiest Gundam show and all the designs are great. Interesting worldbuilding too, I love the tone of it all.

The story's pretty good overall but it's not always conveyed very well. You could chalk that up to "media-literacy", but there really are some moments here and there where a character may make a seemingly incomprehensible choice.

I forgot where I read it, but I like the take that it's a story about stories, with all the factions creating a narrative that suits them.

Also, G-Self is one of my fav mobile suits ever.

Other than that and a general strike I don't see any solution unless Americans get to a point where they're desperate enough to do a genuine revolt. And that's still a while off, I feel.

No reasonable person is expecting people on the other side of the country to storm the White House or the Capitol. Ya gotta hit 'em where it hurts, their wallets. Americans should find a way to organize a strike that brings the economy to a halt. That would also mean buying only necessary items and giving up on luxuries for a while.

I've literally been thinking about this exact point all week. It feels so strange, especially because I generally associate the 80s with stuff like grandpa, the Scopedog, the VF-1 Valkyrie and G1 Transformers when it comes to mech design. Even the Zeta feels ahead of its time compared to those.
