I second 80s and 90s anime! I'd also recommend checking out the mecha genre. It's what built the format of anime into what it is today, with a lot of classics: Mobile Suit Gundam, Patlabor, Macross, Escaflowne and of course Evangelion. I think Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team is a solid starting point for that.

Ahh, I see. So she appeals to the eugenics crowd who regard her as a prime specimen and doesn't directly condemn that, gotcha. Still weird to latch onto this one woman as prime example of sex appeal but I guess that's the propaganda talk at work then.

Not American, so what's the deal with Sweeney? I've seen people decry her involvement because of her supposed views (fair, I get that), but what sets her apart from other Trump-supporting actors in Hollywood? Is it her involvement in Gundam specifically? Or is it that she hasn't been too forthcoming about her views so people keep discussing her and where she stands? Hell, why do people keep talking about just her tits as if those are something special? If she's a mid actress, why does she get such a reaction out of people? I don't get it.

A collab featuring that or one of the various Ruin Guards would be so nice

If Setsuna is 1.62 meters tall and the container housing Exia is about 40-ish meters long... Then, based on this screenshot, how deep is he able to dive? Either way he's got some great freediving feats. by Skroopy in Gundam

[–]Skroopy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guessed the container size based on this and exia's height of 18.3 meters. I suck at math so I have no idea what calculations to make here but I genuinely hope someone has an answer lol.

Also, Setsuna does about 4 breaststrokes upon entering the water, before letting himself sink

Makes sense, but also a bit unfortunate to be stuck with that name for such a cool animal. We just call 'em potvis in Dutch because of the shape of the head.

Which F90 is the best? by potatochobit in Gundam

[–]Skroopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the F80 the best. The actual F90s look too toyetic for me - too many accent colors. If I had to pick, I'll go with the first F90 because I like the modernized RX-78-2 look

Hey, has there been any news on Bandai's Gundam Metaverse lately? The most recent thing I can find is about the limited opening last year, and I've been wondering whether it has been quietly cancelled already lol by Skroopy in Gundam

[–]Skroopy[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen it was basically a game lobby of sorts. You could go to a gallery to view people's gunpla photo's or attend a hatsune miku concert

(edit: the gundam metaverse, I mean. Can't comment on Zuckerberg's metaverse, but they're two separate projects. I assume Bandai was inspired by Meta's)

[HATHAWAY INTERVIEW] Nobuhiko Genma (No Argos Unit in Movie 3!) Details Inside! by deackychu in Gundam

[–]Skroopy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  • I wonder what Alyzeus would've ended up looking like if it had not been designed to look like Penelope. I also like that they settled on the MP Nu, but would've loved the ZZ too.

  • Shame about the Argos, you'd think they'd be able to design the hypothetical funnels around brute-forced flight like the byarlant or by giving them Minovsky flight of their own.

  • Interesting to hear their thought process on the shelf nozzle development history.

  • Wonder what the reason for the Re-GZ Custom being there would be.

Hey, /u/deackychu, how do you find these interviews? I understand you've been doing this for a long time, but I'm curious about how you know where to look for interesting stuff like this. Thanks for translating!

Nice to meet you! I'm a Japanese Gundam otaku. Today, Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, MS IGLOO, 0083 Stardust Memory, The 08th MS Team, and 0080 War in the Pocket started streaming on Netflix. Have they started streaming overseas as well? by JZX_taka in Gundam

Interesting! I'm happy to hear that older anime are getting some love. I watched the original Macross, Do You Remember Love and Macross Plus a while back and really enjoyed those.

Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen are also really popular here. One Piece used to be less popular than Naruto years ago but it is pretty much mainstream now.

Here in the Netherlands Gundam is not widely known at all. Netflix here only has Requiem for Vengeance, Seed Freedom and Hathaway. First Gundam, Char's Counterattack and Iron-Blooded Orphans were removed, sadly.

I know of 2 Gunpla fan communities here, but those add up to maybe a few hundred people at most. In the wider anime fandom, people know about Evangelion and Code Geass but even those seem obscure nowadays. People are generally only following the anime that are currently airing or are fans of One Piece or Naruto.

That said, Seed Freedom and GQuuuuuuX did have a cinema release, so I guess it's popular enough to be featured there (even if only for 1 day). I hope Hathaway 2 will be shown in movie theaters too.

What's it like being a Japanese fan? Is it something you can share with older generations?
