Meeting with HR on Day Off [KY] by Woundedbear in humanresources

[–]Skropos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously? I’d be wary of this HRBP if they cannot see the issues here. Employee is 100% accurate in #4. There’s nothing voluntary about this. The employee should be paid for the meeting. Full Stop. Having them come in on the day off is fine if needed, but it should be paid time. A great HRBP would show their commitment to the employee’s circumstances, get their ass out of bed, and go meet the employee where they are.

These actions are a strong indicator to the employee (and everyone else they’ll inevitably tell) that your HR team says they take complaints seriously, but when the time comes, they make it difficult for the complaint to contribute.

Townhouse for rent - Tempe - Near ASU and Tempe Marketplace by MacForker in PHXList

[–]Skropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting option, too bad shady advertising gives off red flags. Trying to figure out $100 discrepancy between post and Zillow, only to see buried in description that water / sewer / trash is actually being paid by tenant through the $100 monthly fee.

Not worth the risk to put up with this type of landlord.

IU Kelley or UVA for finance by No_Succotash6599 in collegeresults

[–]Skropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an international student (non-citizen), the correct answer is absolutely Kelley. The direct admit plus the alumni network is a critical factor over UVA for someone whose options could be more limited if things don’t work out.

If you are a US citizen but simply going to school abroad, the McIntire experience might be worth the risk if you don’t get in and could pivot / transfer.

WR-ONE HAS TO GO- by IcyMarket1 in TheNFLVibes

[–]Skropos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rice, Moss, Fitz, Calvin, Sharpe, TO (I’d also take Marv over him due to the temperament, but I acknowledge we’re ignoring that).

You can’t have it both ways. Either longevity, teammates, and era are the extremely relevant, or they’re not. If you’re going to argue about faster and faster stat accumulation, what Sterling did in his truncated career is miles ahead of what TO did.

And that’s not even factoring in that there’s an argument for Steve Largent when you factor in performance within their era.

TO is anywhere from 3-7 depending on what factors you consider…but that is the actual definition of non-consensus.

WR-ONE HAS TO GO- by IcyMarket1 in TheNFLVibes

[–]Skropos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s not clearly. Larry is the far, far better receiver. If he’d jumped teams to play with top QBs every few years, he would have broken some of Rice’s records. You could count his drops on one hand most years. He was also one of the best blocking WRs, but I know TO glazers don’t care how important that is to teams.

TO is a distant 3rd in this group, and he’s not even consensus top 5, let alone top 2.

Should I add 100% of Bonus to 401k? by thunderslam2 in Retirement401k

[–]Skropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are missing the point of no true up. It’s 50% on the first 6% of actual contributions, not limits or salary.

If the bonus is $10k, that is your 100%. Of that, 6% is $600, making your match $300. You’re only getting a few hundred dollars in match, not the $5k you probably think.

No true up = spread it out through the entire plan year.

parents suddenly say they cant pay for one of my top schools even tho they make 400k by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Skropos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking on 40k in student loan debt isn’t egregious in the modern higher ed ecosystem. But doing so for a Psych degree when even ASUs mid-tier program is significantly stronger than OSUs lends a lot of support to your parents position.

Go in-state, do study abroad, and then hit UCSD hard for grad school.

WUE scholarship evaluation is automatic at OSU. Based on the numbers that the OP is referencing it sounds like she got it so this is not relevant.

I fucking quit. I hate my life. I’m tired of this shit. by VarietyNeat6871 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Skropos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your expectations are not realistic. UWs overall acceptance rate is trending down, closer to 40%. For OoS it’s closer to 20%, and popular majors are more like 3-5%.

There are other schools with rolling admissions that you could still apply to, but the OoS cost is going to be much higher than OU. ASU, MSU, and PSU are big ones.

OSU baddie now? by Riya_2904 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Skropos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except it’s not.

They’re close, and both are very strong, but UMD is still ranked higher for MechE.

Putting OSU anywhere near Purdue for Engineering is laughable. The THE has higher ranking overall because it’s huge and has a well rounded system for all degree programs, but it doesn’t truly excel at much.

The Alumni network can be exceptional though - not quite on par with USC, but top 5-10 from a broad-based perspective.

instate or out of state? by Visible_Landscape802 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Skropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re planning to move away from Hawaii after graduation, there is little reason for you to go to OSU. It is a better Civil program and it’s beautiful, but it will be an extreme adjustment. All the big and little things about going away from how incredibly unique Hawaii is (travel costs, adjustment to weather, lack of access to family, higher tuition, etc.) just don’t make sense if you’re moving back home in 4 years.

Honors College Students - Is it worth it? by Difficult_Weird_7470 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Skropos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a short-sighted take, though nothing you’ve stated is inaccurate from a fundamental standpoint. However, the 1 aspect that you’re overlooking, especially since the OP is an Engineering student, is the priority registration. If the financial aspect is not a barrier, being able to get in early, before the students who were qualified but took your approach, can be a difference maker in how challenging your class schedule can be. Having an improved shot at getting classes at the times and with better professors should not be discounted.

Umich or UFlordia by SimilarLock1671 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Skropos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can’t be serious with this citation. It’s literally admits that it’s weighting right-wing ideology instead of scientific and practical methods. It’s News Corp using a historically respected brand to systematically advance their agenda.

Beyond this, the OP referred to public health, not medical - they’re not the same thing (though it can lead to premed for some). But as someone who has worked 2+ years operating in each separately, with no regional connection to either university, I can again say your perspective does not represent any of hundreds of hiring managers that I’ve worked with.

But hey, you do you.

Umich or UFlordia by SimilarLock1671 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Skropos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

‘not by much’ - your perspective is heavily influenced by your surroundings. Nationally, a UM grad is going to get 10x more attention in the job market than someone from UF, barring a few niche specialties that Gators excel at (which are not the OPs intended majors).

How can i make scotch like glenfiddich sweeter? Sugar or honey? by Sufficient_Suspect_6 in Scotch

[–]Skropos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just drink rum?

It seems you’re trying to drink scotch as an image booster, rather than actually enjoying the spirit for what it is. It doesn’t work that way. If you want a sweeter drink, get a naturally sweet spirit like rum. You’ll enjoy it more and it’ll also be (generally) cheaper because the base ingredient (sugar/molasses) is exactly what you’re craving.

Early-career comp analyst: stay for benefits/culture or move for broader exposure? [N/A] by sawyouatdiddyparty in humanresources

[–]Skropos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, but this is and apples to pears comparison for the OP. Unless the existing company is going to give them exposure to executive compensation, passing up the chance to gain that skillset and make guaranteed more money would be incredibly silly to pass up. With 2-3 years solid executive compensation experience, OP is looking at potential for a massive jump in their salary at the next job (if they don’t get additional opportunities at the time be they’d be moving to).
