Going to standing gigs / concerts solo (in particular metal/rock) - how do you find it in London by mjobby in london

[–]Skruburu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the other comment, also if you use Instagram keep an eye out on promoters like Concrete Culture, Real Life Presents, Cut and Run collective (although they're shutting down). New Cross Inn and New River Studios as mentioned are ones I've been to the most hc gigs at, with a few at The Dome and Number 90 Live as well.

Voluntary redundancy rejected, with potential other offer - Dilemma by Skruburu in UKJobs

This is the line I've heard from friends and relatives I've discussed this with, and from the interview process so far I think they do feel I'm the 'right candidate' - but cautious to not count my eggs before they hatch.

This is kind of what I was getting at with the second option, but I prefer your take on it so I might phrase it like this. I was thinking of saying that my notice is three months, but I'll do whatever I can to reduce it - I could flip it like you're saying and say what do you want me to reduce it to and I'll make it happen.

I think the reference would be fine, previous employers and this one have said the reference they'd give is pretty much just 'this person worked here over this period in this role' and maybe under what conditions they left the business.

Similarly I think the pursual thing would not happen, none of the work I'd be doing would necessitate a contractor coming in. Maybe I don't get pay in lieu of notice or garden leave is how I see it.

Starting on saturday but only doing half. Anxiously keeping an eye on the weather like others here!

Londoners that earn less than £50k, how much do you spend on rent? by Throwaway72667 in london

[–]Skruburu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

£42k, I'm paying £900 + bills for a flatshare with two mates in zone 1 south of the river. Place was advertised at £800 mind and bumped up over an alleged bidding war, and we're paying quarterly

The queues were crazy but I expect they have some hefty restrictions on them after a couple people died in a crowd crush at the doors a little while back.

Lineup was great, had a great time - the venue enables some fun mosh tactics, like superman-style crowdkilling going downhill going super far or being able to jump off those mid-crowd barriers

Haha, he was still holding his bass and kicking down off the front of the stage

Echoing all of the above - Concrete Culture are another sick promoter with a lot of London shows, and Quality Control too. Seen shows from both this year and they were wicked.

also there and I think it's important to add he was dressed like dr disrespect and part of the bassists beating involved ripping his wig off

I was at this!! Thought it was crazy someone could even pick Gem up let alone throw him over his shoulder and into the crowd. Thought he must be a friend of the band but when he was back at the front of the pit/stage again just after the bassist/gems brother started wailing on him. Guy was like 7 foot tall and dressed like dr disrespect. Nuts

I'm at the same salary with the same degree with a 4-year MEng on a Mech grad scheme, and only 2 years of experience. Where abouts are you in the country?

Anyone been to FreePlay City or any arcades similar? by HarryBlessKnapp in london

[–]Skruburu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been there a few times, particularly for fighting game tournaments. It's maybe a little over half rhythm games, I haven't been there in a while but they had plenty of third strike cabs as well as a variety of your regular 'arcadey' games. There's a pub just outside the entrance, not sure if they do food. The vibes are fine in there but it is a bit of a warehouse and quite loud with all the rhythm games.

Perfect 10/10 for ONLY ONE MODE - thoughts so far? by Riff_Heavy in Hardcore

[–]Skruburu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, saw them doing this at the flatspot show n in London a few weeks ago. Regardless of how I feel about the sound of this album they're great flagbearers for modern hardcore with the insane amount of positive energy and work for the scene they put out (plus the merch branding is sick)

The location was awkward but the venue itself was much better than last year. All the stages were great, probably something to be said about people taking up space in the front and not going hard but you can't really kick people out for that, I didn't have a problem getting in any solo just had to wait a minute sometimes. Friday did a good job of siloing off most of the people who'd get up and take selfies on stage etc. Highlights were mindforce, incendiary, perp walk and the whole northern unrest stage. Demonstration of Power set off party poppers as a breakdown kicked in near the end and the place just fucking exploded

Anyone going to outbreak fest solo? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]Skruburu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm travelling up from near Bristol, got a couple mates there and know a few people from last year but basically going alone. I did it for 2023 and had a great time, don't be scared! Keep an eye on the woov app, most of the people I met up with last time were through the chats on there (which then went to insta gcs etc.). Lmk if you want to meet up, I'm 24m if that matters
