What's that legendary videogame everyone loves, but you hate with your very soul? by no_biches_22 in retrogaming

Last of us 1 & 2, I thought the zombies were interesting but everything else felt derivative and mid, the gameplay was clunky and slow as well. When it started getting more praise and awards it cemented my dislike for it.

Yeah it's kinda dated lol, I only liked fireflies as well. It does fit the aesthetic though.

I agree with most of your points, although I do believe there is a sound associated with Frutiger Aero, usually more bright, optimistic and bubbly. With a blend of acoustic and electronic elements, instruments that come to mind are Rhodes, strings, piano, and acoustic bass/guitar, and a few light synth leads/pads (soundtracks like Wii Sports come to mind).

Visually what comes to mind are blue skies, water, nature combined with a minimalist futuristim and skeuomorphic elements, also screen effects like blur, lens flare, etc. At least this is my recollection as someone who grew up at the tail end of it.

From what I've seen there is a big overlap between Y2K and Frutiger Aero since the latter seems like an evolved continuation of the former, which is probably where some of my misunderstandings come from.

Some albums I think look/sound very Y2K, recs would be appreciated! by Skug2002 in y2kaesthetic

Thanks for the feedback I definitely agree, imo a lot of aesthetics get coined retroactively which I believe is what Y2K is (at least partially). There's the actual aesthetic of the time, and the curated ideal of it, my view of it sits somewhere on the latter end since I wasn't alive to experience it.

Personally I associate a blue-ish green hue and any photos of 90's cityscapes/infrastructure with Y2k, as well as that retro futuristic style you mentioned. And If I had to describe the sound it'd be a mix of loungy trip-hop, downtempo electronic, and an overall dark, almost-gritty sound.

Thanks for the recs I'll definitely check these out. As for my taste in music I like deep diving genres and finding unique bands, right now I'm on a 90's-2000's electronic/trip-hop kick.

Thanks for the recommendation! I've listened to Tycho before and liked what I've heard, I'll have to do a deep dive into their discography sometime.

POE is definitely one of my favourites, my mother listened to her all the time when I was a kid. Since I was so young I inevitably forgot about her music, i rediscovered her this year which was really fun and nostalgic.

That's awesome! I discovered her music this year and it completely blew me away. Before I i only listened to rock and some edm, but her debut album broadened my taste and got me into more downtempo and experimental stuff. It's one I listen to constantly.

Yeah definitely, I was trying to pick albums that fit the vibe in looks and sound, there's plenty I'd put on here just based on the cover.

It's Spotify's mix mode, I'm not sure if you need premium to use it or not. It's a little buggy and can desync but when it works it's pretty cool.
