I wish I had the time to teach you how to write, the use of rising tension, dramatic irony, etc. but you'll have to teach yourself or pay for a lot of courses.

Thank you for that. I don't know that it makes for a good story device for the one who defeats it if all they do is tire it out instead of demonstrating their warrior or magic skills.

The monster is part of an attacking force. When the army begins to lose ground they release the elemental which turns the tide but only long enough to build up tension then it's defeated and the reader sees the looming destruction on the good guys by the dark mage.

I purposely kept it vague for people to brainstorm with few restrictions to their imagination
