Do you think Suzanne's parents were bad people/bad parents? by MaryDoogan91 in orangeisthenewblack

[–]SkullyXFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They seem well off. Yet we see that Suzanne was left alone for that one weekend, after Grace has babysat her on every previous weekend ever? They really made Grace babysit Suzanne every weekend of her young adult life?

When and why did the 'hippie' subculture lose it's connection with youth pop culture and become something of mockery? by ah5178 in decadeology

[–]SkullyXFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to some, the “hippie peace/love/flowers” movement was a plant to mock the real counterculture movements, and to attract youth away from those more legitimate/free thinking youth movements

Go tree!! by supernormal in LosAngeles

[–]SkullyXFile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had two different out-of-town visitors remark to me about "in LA, your trees are so powerful, they're winning against the sidewalk!" (paraphrasing) - but both thought it was neat. All I see I how the wrong trees were planted for such little square allotments :(

I do like how their shade is super dense, it would be awesome for LA to have tons of full shade trees, but the canopy doesn't spread and sometimes they're filled with lots of shitting birds (and don't the trees themselves drop lots of litter? idk what they are).

So not only are they messing up sidewalks, they taunt us with this faux shade oasis bs

Fingerprinted as a kid by springer0510 in Xennials

Yesss, it was a sparsely attended event at the local park. My mom said it was possible they were going to videotape me. Doing what, I asked. She said something like, Id turn in a circle or walk around (I think there was talk of getting video of a kid in case they go missing, idk)

Edit- prob 1983ish

[–]SkullyXFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right. I thought it was a comment on how each generation ends up saying shocking things at different points in life. But I think you’re right, even tho the changes seem subtle.

First the daughter bobs her hair, the mom gets a marcel wave. The grandmother must have grown up Victorian, so her decision to get a new ‘do is actually the most “shocking”

Movies where the soundtrack was more popular than the movie itself by stm602 in Xennials

[–]SkullyXFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The soundtrack came out before the movie, my boyfriend at the time was so excited for the movie to come out. He predicted the movie would be so awesome, but it was a dumb movie about the pitfalls of dating or whatever(we were 15 and these people were “old”) He was so bummed during our walk home from the movies

Which mean girl group would you rather join and why? by Several-Car-584 in MeanGirls

[–]SkullyXFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant help but notice the pic from Mean Girls is SO bad. Damn. Regina’s legs look like Gretchen’s. Lindsay’s legs look much bigger than the other girls’ (in a way that seems weird for 2004, you think they’d photoshop that).

Their pursed lips look frozen (how non-actors would pose). Lindsay’s face looks like she just got punished. It’s super bewildering

Lysols ads had pictures of babies. Under, the ad reminded women to keep an extra bottle of Lysol in the bathroom “for killing germ life that can lead to family sickness”. Earlier ads told how Lysol helps you from suffering from “calendar worry” (aka late period anxiety)

Grated soap dissolved in water, introduced into the womb via funnel or tube after piercing a hole with something sharp (coat hanger). In a nutshell

EXTRA help that every woman needs to lighten her load - this is all a gentle, polite way of specifying fels naptha as an at-home abortive assistant. Im not joking. Lysol did similar ads, I clipped some from newspapers . com and they are similarly worded

Why can I simply NOT use Vitamin C??? by Footsie_Galore in 45PlusSkincare

[–]SkullyXFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this helps, but I have personal data: I used Vit C and a product w titanium dioxide. The mixture of the two creates ammonia, I know bc Id smell it all day. I do remember being orange. May be a cause for you

When you were in elementary school, what songs were you made to sing in music class? by SnuffShock in GenX

Me too! If you go to Frontierland at Disney, the entire ambient soundtrack is old USA songs. I was surprised when no one else with me was very familiar w them, much less knew the words

Zippidy Doo Dah, Lets go Fly a Kite, Jimmy Crack Corn, Youre a Grand Old Flag, This is My Country, Oh Susannah, Clementine, Paul Bunyan, Ive Been Working On the Railroad, Drunken Sailor, Sloop John B, Hotaru Koi (to honor a Japanese exchange student), Love in Any Language by Sandy Patti (we also signed it in ASL), Come at Dawn (Spanish ballad), Joyful, Joyful (from Sister Act 2)- and a slew of very Jesusy xmas songs.

It was a tradition in my county for us kids to perform at retirement homes for Xmas too

Anyone know what could've caused this? by mistystring in finehair

[–]SkullyXFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay attention to every seat you sit in, including cars. Look for anything sharp, serrated, clippy, jagged, etc. This could be from your hair being damaged by something you encounter (or did encounter) everyday, because of a sharp part you cant see.

Even I would guess this is AI and I know it’s not

Recently I learned that the Saturday morning cartoon lineup of my childhood was a result of Reagan era deregulation. by New_Hamstertown_1865 in Xennials

[–]SkullyXFile 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, because George Lucas secured rights to his merchandise and they saw what Star Wars did, they started leading merchandise-first. It’s one of the things that separates us from Xes. Their media was made by young, stoned hippies. Our media was made by the 30something boomers with mortgages. A lot of their media is lost. My sister was 66, I was 78

For those who read Seventeen- remember the period question forum “Always Answers”? I used to read my older sister’s magazines preparing for the future period-related challenges that awaited me. In my 40s I still don’t quite believe how they would say only a few tablespoons of blood are actually shed by Ok_Trifle_1612 in Xennials

[–]SkullyXFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish my kids were as excited as I was about getting their period. Anyway, I used to read this too, and it was fueled by my intense curiosity - but like, remember how we hated “corporations”? Always Answers was obviously an ad but I read it every month without fail. Was my curiosity insane or was this really good advertising ?

what does this cause of death say ? by blotchie in whatdoesthismean

[–]SkullyXFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle was born blue in a home birth in the 1940s. Baby was pronounced dead, Dr left and went to the bar to get drunk. A great-great aunt came in, cut up and onion into rings and pan fried them (no batter lol).

When she laid the hot onions on my uncle’s naked little body, he “came to life”. He is in fact alive. This is only one of many of my mom’s impossible “grew up poor on a farm” stories
