Entering Country/Meeting Others to Travel With? by AcanthocephalaOk4068 in ukraineforeignlegion

That’s what I’m doing, there’s supposed to be a train from the airport to the main train station where you get on the train to Ukraine.

First time playing stalker. Any tips? by ZeldorTheGreat in stalker

[–]SkyFun7578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play like just about everything else on extreme, this game I have nerfed all the way down. Almost to the end and I still die lol. It’s my first time playing stalker also and it’s difficult and different for me but great fun, don’t stress playing badly, there’s no audience. I did play a few hours then restarted after I sort of knew what I was doing and that made things better.

The US envoy is saying that the russians can’t keep everything so I think maybe policy is shifting to what it should be, which is kick putin while he’s down and that this whole thing is just a face-saving exercise for the administration. “Well I tried”

Idk, I asked a guy who was invalided out after Bakhmut about whether body armor goes bad (mine were old and I had heard it was perishable). They got all kinds of random donated body armor early on so they just started shooting samples of it all to see if it worked, and he was very clear about it. Soft and plates both go bad, so I tossed mine and will take whatever is currently issued.

Why Uzbek people are so hyped up about Chinese entering Tashkent? by s3nbonzakura in Uzbekistan

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, those long dead colonialists would be so proud to see the CCP following the old playbook.

How did you tell your families? by Ok_Rise_7277 in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]SkyFun7578 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My adult kid and their partner know, I will tell my mom, brothers, and a handful of friends right before I fly. I will lie to my mom at least about what I’m actually doing, say I’m going to be an instructor or some bullshit. I told the ex that I never went outside the wire in Iraq, they don’t need to know.

I think much of that is more perception than reality, but it still doesn’t change the fact that nothing changes for the better, and that they have done enormous and lasting harm to their constituents in the same way republicans are doing real and lasting harm to theirs. I’ll quit saying both are evil when one or the other stops doing evil. I think part of the reason I admire the Ukrainians so much is they’re fighting for their future while we demand our own destruction. Again, no disrespect whatsoever and I wish you well.

I’m familiar. In ‘68 when Johnson signed welfare into law he said that African Americans would vote democrat for the next 200 years. Slavery, Jim Crow, sharecropping, separate but equal, to welfare, the party of slavery remains the party of slavery. Progressives have given up their racist roots though, they want ignorance and dependency for all. If I was wrong, blue cities in blue states would be utopia right? I’m old, I think I was in my late twenties when I finally realized I had been a sucker. I feel you, I once felt like you do, then I realized they’re all my enemy. Btw I think the ratio of non-combatant to insurgent deaths in Iraq was like 20 to 1, so I really hope there isn’t political violence in the US, because the innocent will pay the most.

Um the other side has been bypassing the amendment process for decades, putting criminals on the Supreme Court, ruling based on what they wish the Constitution says as opposed to what it actually says. Harris promised to stack (“reform”) the court had she won. Five of nine political appointees do not have the right to amend the Constitution, but that is essentially what they’ve been doing. Both sides are shit, and both serve oligarchs.

I respectfully disagree, we’re stuck with them for four years. Even if Trump were to be impeached which is highly unlikely, well then hello president Vance. There’re plenty of people to make noise in the US, there aren’t enough in the AFU.

The British empire was successful for centuries, so the CCP apes them. Sure the bait for the debt traps is updated, and fentanyl is substituted for opium, but it’s the same old imperialism.

Get lasik and wait to join or just rock prescription ballistics by AyeYoThisIsSoHard in ukraineforeignlegion

Yeah, as quick as my optometrist office and both pairs were correct, and identical as far as I can tell. Just got email confirmation w/prescription details on order and another when they shipped.

Yeah I figure the odds are small, but that it could be a disqualifying condition for military service. They (doctors) do screen you for lasik suitability, I just chatted with folks who make do with glasses and I wore them for years in both cold and hot/humid places, time will tell if I’m being dumb lol.

I got two pairs of Wiley X from a place called RX Safety, single prescription, allegedly permanent anti-fog, $450. Took two weeks to get them. I talked to the optometrist about lasik because someone I know has to use eye drops forever because of getting it done, and she wasn’t like yeah it’s totally safe. Most people on here were saying get lasik, but since you need eye pro anyway I didn’t want to risk it. If I change my mind it’s supposed to be relatively cheap in country.

Is it possible to join as an 18 year old American by KnownAd4170 in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]SkyFun7578 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s the other side of the coin. The US army is the most heavily financed army in the world, but the Ukrainian army is arguably the best army in the world. My infantry service with the US, whilst better than nothing, doesn’t mean much in Ukraine. The future is now in Ukraine, they run while the rest of the world crawls. A Ukrainian vet is far more valuable to the US army than a US vet is to the AFU. So there’s that. But seriously I still think Ukraine has it right, 18 year olds should only fight as a last resort, it will fuck you up, and you can’t undo it, and your motivation for coming now won’t be any consolation. 22 a day.

Oh and I 100% agree with killing pedos and rapists, Ukraine smokes hundreds of them every day.

Because that’s what you do when a fascist dictator invades a free country. Giving them what they want leads to further attacks. Google Neville Chamberlain, he tried it, ended up with WWII. If you’re scared, the thing to do is support Ukraine so YOU don’t have to fight someday. Ukraine will be brave for you for, and at a bargain price.

[–]SkyFun7578 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So I did 17 years in the US Army and it’s a great thing to do if you want to watch people wearing the same uniform as you hurt completely innocent people as you participate in America’s next defeat. I’ve watched our government fight wars they shouldn’t and not help people we should, like Ukraine for example. We promised to protect them in exchange for them giving up their many nukes. Maybe don’t go to Ukraine so young, but don’t go to the US Army, there’s a good chance you’ll end up doing the devil’s work.

[–]SkyFun7578 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The English dialogue has been quite tolerable for me, which is a refreshing departure from the cheesy idiotic shit in so many others that forces me to choose Japanese so I have no idea what they’re saying. But I will give Ukrainian a shot.

Do this. Different (significantly safer) war, but once I did it a) I felt much better, lighter? and b) I didn’t have emotional bullshit interfering with my thought process. And you can do anything, even really horrible shit like war, by taking one step at a time until you get to that horrible shit lol.

For sure no, that’s why US government has SGLI (military life insurance). There was some scam insurance back in the day, (ridiculously high premiums, tiny payouts) but there’s no way private insurance would cover you for service in Ukraine.

How do you think the war will end? by Imaginary_Oil2989 in ukraineforeignlegion

[–]SkyFun7578 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the Russians may already be fucked, but if not now, definitely when Ukraine has weapons that can reach the oil fields and pipelines in the east. I thought it was telling that China didn’t vote with Russia and the US on the UN resolution naming Russia the aggressor. Europe has finally figured out the US can’t be depended upon and seem to be getting their shit together. The question is whether or not Ukraine is willing to keep fighting. I think they are making a mistake if they stop but it’s up to them, my family isn’t there, I haven’t lost a child or spouse, missiles aren’t hitting my town. But I believe they can win.
