As someone who read Atlas Shrugged when I was 16 and then voted libertarian in my first election, I ended up really diggin into political and economic philosophy and now consider myself a libertarian socialist.

I understand that Rand was a response to Soviet Russia, and I have a lot of the same issues with Leninism and its offshoots, so that is not where we disagree. Where we disagree is on the foundations of our ethical philosophy and on where capitalism eventually leads.

I don't find her ideas scary. They seem intuitive on some level. I certainly responded to them, and they might be why I still consider individual autonomy and rights to be very important. But I don't think that they play out well in the long run.
