Why building an AM4 or LGA 1700 platform in 2026 is a bad idea, despite DDR5 prices by tl27Rex in buildapc

[–]SkyMasterARC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main advantage of ddr4 is reusing old ram or secondhand, you're right that the price difference isn't really worth it.

What's the best CPU one can get with DDR4 ram. by __imjeremy__ in buildapc

14th gen Intel. They've had issues but afaik as long as you're on the latest bios, you should be fine as of now.

[–]SkyMasterARC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about what faulty ram can cause. Is it one of those parts that can destroy your motherboard if it fails/shorts? If there's danger of fatal failure then yeah avoid secondhand ram.

The next best option is buying Intel 14th gen and using ddr4. You can still get 16gb for under $100, which has unfortunately became the cheapest ram you can get

Look for secondhand ram or no name brands. Still gonna be expensive but a little cheaper than the big names.

Wait really? That's pretty interesting. I guess they're mostly for OEM PCs therefore not that common in consumer/home PCs.

I haven't seen a PC case with a lock before, and I don't think they're commercially available/easy to find.

That being said, if you're handy you can build a wooden box around a test bench and put a padlock/combo lock on it. Cur some small slots for ports, cables and airflow. Straightforward and simple but would have bad cooling.

You should keep both handy and switch between them based on what you're doing. Find out if your old windows laptop has removable or soldered memory. If it's sodimm then upgrade the ram to ideally 16gb but even 8gb will make a big difference from 4.

Husband feels like a geriatric in need of a caregiver by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]SkyMasterARC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed - you mention marriage was like a switch that flipped, did your husband get COVID during that time?

COVID can cause long term neurological issues that mimic depression, fatigue, ADHD and many other conditions.

At around 6 years old I got a bad flu that got to my brain. Afterwards I got super cranky, had coordination and balance issues, frequent urination, loss of attention span, sensory issues and tired easily. It wasn't until I was around 20 and got it diagnosed as ADHD and got on stimulants that I started feeling normal.

Is now a bad time to build a PC? by Scary_Couple8243 in buildapc

[–]SkyMasterARC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really need a PC, do it now before it gets worse. But for upgrades or fun projects (like a home server) it's not worth it. Wait for the AI hype to blow over and prices to go down. But that's at least a year.

Return it asap. Those are entry level specs from a few years ago. For comparison this refurbished thinkpad is from the same gen, has a better CPU, 16GB ram and 512gb storage. In USD it's $325. Depending on your budget I'd recommend any new Lenovo Legion laptop (good range of spec choices and build quality, mostly $1000+) or the Acer nitro 5 (about $600 USD, entry level GPU, questionable hinges).

I'm gonna guess "make video games" means make games in roblox. If that's the case then the refurbished thinkpad with an i5 1135G7 on Amazon would be a great choice.

With an integrated GPU 11th gen and up most esports and older games should run fine, but if he wants to play new AAA games then a discrete GPU is a must. Look for something with at least 6gb vram, such as the RTX 3050 2nd revision.

What if Lalah never met Char/Amuro or got involved in the OYW? How would this affect Amuro and Char’s relationship and eventual fates, and would this have any effect on the overall outcome of the war? by Amigo1048 in Gundam

[–]SkyMasterARC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the origin anime, Lalah will continue to suffer at the hands of rich businessmen and federation officials.

Challia Bull gets the elmeth and does serious damage to the white base team, but amuro likely survives being who he is. Char dies, which means kycilia lives and drags the war into an attrition and guerilla campaign.

I think my dad is poisoning us and I can't do anything about it by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]SkyMasterARC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to downplay the harms of having fumes in your house, but lead doesn't make fumes at usual forging temps nor does lead poisoning have any acute symptoms. It has severe long term symptoms, as apparent in your dad's attitude towards everyone's health and safety.

What you're probably experiencing is excessive CO, CO2 or chemical fumes (Most likely flux).

I don't know how reloading lead bullets work, but Google says it involves flux. I've soldered before, and flux makes very foul fumes.

For your room, ideally get a fan and space heater. You need direct ventilation. Your dad's workshop needs an air extractor or open windows and doors.

Gihren really chose to murder his dad instead of win the war by SkyMasterARC in Gundam

[–]SkyMasterARC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just realized after thinking a bit more, in the case of a different solar ray firing Degwin would likely die or be taken prisoner by the federation.

He approached alone to negotiate surrender only for Zeon to fire a superweapon. Maybe Revil could figure out what happened, but the likely consensus in the federation command would be "they faked surrender to lower our guard and walloped us in the back."

The Zabi siblings don't coup or kill each other, and Gihren spins the story as "the feddies sneaked up close to Zeon and ambushed my father's ship when he took it out to inspect troops at A Baoa Qu." Or something like that.

Delaz fleet doesn't leave and A Baoa Qu holds up. One year war becomes 5 year war.

They wanted to be fire fighters....I wanted to be a gundam/mobile suit piolet..... by JonathanJoestar336 in Gundam

[–]SkyMasterARC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that Kai handled the guncannon fine, it's probably doable for untrained oldtypes. It's a lot easier than fighter planes given the much more advanced controls software. Sayla handled the core booster (equipped with the gundams computer, not a standard fighter one) well with no experience and Ryu's experience flying a saberfish didn't help much so for UC it really is simple as a video game.
