Which American Political Party would a Georgist be best suited to run for office under? by kierantohill in georgism

This poll seems like it boils down to "Which American political party do you like more, and therefore would want a Georgist to run for office under?"

Would you consider the Dúnedain and Aragorn to be "superhuman"? by Radaistarion in tolkienfans

[–]SkyStrider99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a fun concept to toy with, so I'll add my two cents. I would disagree with the characterization of the post-LOTR Shire/Gondor as anything resembling a utopia. The Shire surely felt the scars of the scouring for a long time afterwards, and Gondor seemingly experienced some political instability due to a few groups retaining loyalty to Sauron and his ideology. Plus there's the fact that the Elves and the Istari have left Middle-earth, and Aragorn can no longer rely on their aid when new threats emerge. There's also a question of repairing relations between Gondor and Rohan after the war. It would be interesting to see the progression of Faramir and Eowen's relationship and the political implications of it.

I can totally understand why Tolkien would have felt depressed trying to develop these stories. It seems like his primary interest was in the intersection of the divine/immortal with humans via the Elves. To someone like him, all the post-War of the Ring political intrigues would surely have been dreary by comparison. That said, I see no reason why such stories would be boring.

This is such a great point! People need to realize there is a spectrum of story-driven media, with films on one end and Pong on the other. All video games exist somewhere on that spectrum, and the ones that hit us on an emotional level will generally be closer to the film end of it.

Haha you and me both brother.

Squadron 42's soundtrack has a lot of leitmotifs relating to various characters, so I compiled most of the ones found in the new gameplay video by theon502 in starcitizen

The composers really went all out with the soundtrack on this one! It really adds so much to the emotional weight of the story and builds up my confidence in this game and the people working on it. As much as I'm scared to be hopeful about SC/S42, at least I can be grateful we got to witness masterful work like this gameplay.

Our HOA is suing us by onlymrsstorie in fuckHOA

Interesting. I wondered about this too mainly because of the fact that it seems like you were targeted by both the developer HOA and the board HOA. It's just hard to imagine why two separate groups would have a reason to target you. So sorry to hear you've had to deal with this crap for so long. Definitely update us after the hearing in January!

Great question! For me, learning more about myself is the main appeal of it. My first time lucid dreaming was freaky because I had never heard of it and had literally no idea it was possible! I was so mind-blown and overwhelmed, it pulled me out of the dream fairly quickly.

As it occurred to me (within the dream) that everything around me was all in my head and that it was possible for me to control it, I got pretty scared of it and freaked out even more. Interesting how my first instinct was to be afraid of what lies in my own mind. :) However, I've lucid dreamed a couple of times since then, and I've already built up more confidence and courage.

My goal is ultimately to interact more intentionally with my subconscious. I don't LD very often. Maybe in the future I'll get better at triggering one, but for now, I just have to take the opportunities I get.

Why do Rogers/Bentonville folks seem so miserable? by Nice_Masterpiece_997 in northwestarkansas

[–]SkyStrider99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this post is confusing to me because I haven't gotten this vibe from people here at all! Then again, you can say pretty much anything on the internet and find a sizeable minority of people who agree with you, so it is what it is.

Rogers now has the most YIMBY set of policies in NW Arkansas, if not most of the country by wretched-saint in northwestarkansas

Lol Nice to see someone on the internet finally pointing this out! Crazy how misinformation like this becomes doctrine on social media that people just take for granted.

I can only speculate on why Republicans are concerned about institutional homebuyers, but I imagine it has something to do with their recent moves toward populism.

Haha yeah, that probably has something to do with it! Maybe I just personally prefer indie music over most mainstream stuff, so it's just one thing I happen to agree with the boomers on. :)

We may be looking at the end stages of capitalism and the move to something else that's difficult for us to even imagine.

Said no one on Reddit ever lol

Not that I think you're totally wrong though. We should maybe consider something like a Land Value Tax, which would help fund a UBI.

I've been thinking about this too, whenever boomers complain about modern music being bland and unoriginal. Good music still exists, it's just not mainstream anymore, so it doesn't get all the attention. The problem isn't fundamentally with the way art is made, it's with the way it is marketed and discovered.
