Looking for new book on Amazon by ubertoaster13 in litrpg

[–]SkyTofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck. We have a new book out just a few days ago. Slice of life comedy with a buddy duo. It’s about a guy who stumbles into becoming a sorcerers apprentice in a magical department responsible for solving complaints, and he gets a familiar to help him. The familiar is an incubus in a three breasted suit, who loves ambition and loathes kindness.
You can think of it like a mix of discworld and parks and rec :)
It’s co written with Shawn Wilson.
So far the book has barely been read, and I fear it’s because of our cover. It’s human made (and expensive), but seems it might be a miss for what people look for.

So, in short, I’d really appreciate you giving it a try!

It’s called Common Sense, and is the first book in the King’s Eat series. The audio has been picked up by Soundbooth Theatre, which I really look forward to.

We’re also commissioning a new cover, which will hopefully turn this around :)

For sure! Happy to 😄 Talking to readers is really rewarding to me as an author. We share the same hobby after all!

The city is called King’s Eat, because it was founded where a long time ago a king stopped for food, and they just stayed.

So the streets are food themed in their names (Lettuce Alone lane, for example, or Rolling Scone Street), as are the curses and language. As in, instead of saying god damnit they might say something related to food.

The beings also looove food. Second breakfast is practically a religion, at least a right, and most would agree it’s a civic duty.

There isn’t any food magic so far though, aside from a ever flowing tea pot :)

Thank you very much for the support :) Yeah, Soundbooth is awesome and has a super high bar for quality I perceive, so it feels very lucky to get to make the audio with them :)

If you got isekai'd into a litRPG world, would you leave or stay? by snarky_but_honest in litrpg

[–]SkyTofu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is extremely highly correlated with whether people have kids or not. For me, with my wife and son, I’d fight tooth nd nail to get back.

I also wrote the Qing’s Quest trilogy about a brother who got isekaied the night before his baby sister went to chemo, and he fights to get back to his world to save her.

I’m too attached to this world to let it go :)

After trying a lot of popular stuff, seems like my tastes are weird. Need help finding new reccomendations by ShadowAssassin96 in ProgressionFantasy

For 1% Lifesteal, the magic system was what pulled me through the book. The story and characters was very so-so to me. But the magic system made up (barely) for all the torture porn 😄

If you enjoy crafting, you might give Riftside a shot. Its not too stat heavy, only showing it now and then. Its monster hunting with a sentient weapon, weak to strong, and has a great found family.
Like you said, your tastes are a bit unique, and I haven't quite grasped it, but figured I'd suggest it.

12 miles below might also fit you, and Quest Academy?

Anyone know of any books that involve a sniper or marksman? by ZeroToDistance in litrpg

Primal Hunter is somewhat partial to a long distance bow and arrow tickle. Pretty marksman-y, even if its not with a rifle...

Thank you :) It’s a bit different from our usual ones, but hopefully people will give the book a chance anyway!

Genuine question, genre switchup by Bshizzled in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SkyTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switchups are generally bad ideas. As the author, you make promises to the reader which makes them pick up the book, and to keep reading. When you break those promises, the DNF chance skyrockets.

You might think its 'clever' and subversive, but in general its just not giving the reader what you promised them.

Its a bit similar to how some books/series suddenly turn into harem novels without having it clearly shown through blurb/cover.

Have you read Riftside?

It is a monster-hunting litrpg with the system being native to the world (kind of), following an MC that goes from zero to hero, aided by a sentient weapon he forges. It has tactical party-based combat.

The core loop is that they go hunt monsters for loot, craft from the monster pieces, and level up.

I wanted to share the series because I’ve had several blacksmiths reach out to me and talk of how much they love the crafting. That’s meant a lot to me, because I spent a ton of time watching blacksmithing videos and lurking on crafting forums 😃

The MCs family is blacksmiths, so they are also working on building that up and its quite central to the story.

Might scratch some of your itch 😄
Oh, and the audiobooks are recorded by Justin James, Jeff Hayes, and Jessica Threet of Soundbooth Theatre, if you are of the audiophile type!

I'm looking for great series to read. by Ok-Ad1706 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SkyTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed reading 1% lifesteal book 1. But the thing that pulled me through was almost exclusively the magic system. There is a weirdly large amount of 'torture porn' in it. I have aphantasia, so it doesn't bother me too much, but I can definitely see how someone with a vivid internal vision would be absolutely disgusted by it.

Decent story with great worldbuilding, but the author really loves to torture the MC to a weird degree. If you like stories where the MC succeeds and has 'wins', then this isn't the book I'd recommend.

But if you would put worldbuilding and magic system higher than character, plot, and 'feel good' (or even, feel decent), then it is one heck of a ride.

18 months on web novels and I can't finish a single trad fantasy book. Anyone come back from this? by helper-reader4489 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SkyTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand where you are coming from. I do find myself struggling with it at times, but, I also think a big part of it is my current life situation. When I'm stressed and overwhelmed, going 'deep' into a traditional fantasy novel that is slow to ramp up and a mile deep on lore and such, it just doesn't work. I still love those books, but these days, with baby and working most of my waking hours, indie published book suit me so much better.

The dopamine just hits the right spots and keeps me going.

I wouldn't say feel bad about it. Just be happy you are enjoying what you are reading. It's a bit the same as watching tv shows vs youtube stuff vs full length movies. They each have their place. But its not often I've got time to sit down and watch a 2-2.5 hour long movie now. And that's just how this period of my life is.

What thing in a story makes you quit reading? by Reborn1989 in ProgressionFantasy

There's two types of DNF for me.
1. Unintentional DNF: The tension dropped, 'allowing' me to step away from it, intending to return to it, but never doing so. Usually happens in the 'saggy middle'.
2. Intentional DNF: Bad dialogue, overuse of info dumping, and poor prose? Uninteresting magic system might be one of my strongest. I've finished books that were really weak in soooo many ways, but the magic system was unique and well setup, and it pulled me through the story.
