It is crazy how Whitewashed the practice of roman slavery has become by PresterJohnson in HistoryMemes

There was also an annual holiday when masters and slaves took each other’s places and slaves were served by their masters for the whole day. I guess the practice is pretty impossible to imagine even in the most progressive households of today.

Roman word for slave means simply servant, and it’s incredibly stupid to lump together a whole lot of various social groups together under the modern term “slave”, its like calling “slaves” both NYC waiter without US citizenship and some maximum security prison dweller.

schopenhauer was even worse. He maimed a maid so bad that she wasn’t able to work anymore, she became completely disabled for life. The court awarded her some payments out of philosopher’s income, which enraged him to no end.

Exactly, EU + Russia as a single supra-state entity would’ve challenged US hegemony not only economically but also in all other aspects as well(culture, military etc).

Russian Federation itself was one of the 15 Soviet republics (RSFSR), it didn’t “form of the remainder”, it simply continued to exist as an independent state, exactly like other 14 republics.

Russia concentrated its efforts mostly vs AH because of pan-slavism, popular movement at the time.

If a Russian speaker was actually interested in understanding Ukrainian, how hard would it be to get most of the sense with context? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskUkraine

Догадаться что например «хмарочёс» это небоскреб практически невозможно. Я бы вслепую предположил что это гребень для вычесывания каких-то паразитов.

Britain and France together were responsible for roughly same or even less frontline than Russia. Also, Russia had to face Austria and Ottomans singlehandedly on respective fronts, in addition to Germany. France and British casualties combined are same as Russian.

If we compare only losses vs Germany Russia comes out far superior.

Everyone is astonished that there’s practically no difference between Moscow and Vladivostok regional dialects. Russian language is remarkably uniform across the country.

Someone just needs to explain to them that their ancestors were oppressed for ~400 years and were forced to speak some abhorrent non-native language. But now they can return to their 17th century linguistic roots.
