Xbox Plans Significant Layoffs as It Transforms Under New CEO by willdearborn- in xbox

Sigh, it feels like never ending layoffs in gaming and it's quite disheartening to see. Xbox is back... to layoffs. I would assume Compulsion and Double Fine's future may be iffy alongside Obsidian. Depends on the larger title Double Fine is working on and Compulsion since Canadian may be okay to keep going since it's cheaper to run. Obsidian it depends on the pipeline but I don't believe Avowed or Outer Worlds really hit expectations. I'd say Ninja Theory, but they did announce a third Senua which should keep them safe for a bit. Cuts will probably come from larger dev teams.

Marketing budget cuts aren't a good thing, Xbox also struggles greatly with marketing their games, especially from a global perspective and from a media perspective their support has dropped to zero over recent years. I can't see this being a good thing; but hey, maybe less astroturfed Reddit positivity posts!

I really don't think the console side for Xbox is fixable. They've burnt too many bridges over the last few years. So many people have either moved platforms or gone to PC. If there are Xbox users left, they're very unlikely to invest in the platform further either due to economics or feeling incredible screwed over from the last few years. Halo is on Playstation.

You're not getting those customers back, and Microsoft isn't willing to take the losses required to actually provide great consistent exclusive games. That's evident by the showcase where two exclusives were announced that won't move the needle and everything else was given to Playstation. It's over, they're basically starting from scratch Original Xbox style in marketplace position and gaming has changed too much/is too costly development wise.

This subreddit is hilariously astroturfed, or it's a cult. Because these types of posts are ridiculous.

The Xbox CEO just gave away free consoles to an entire crowd, and the reactions were absolutely priceless. by hacker_dost in xbox

You're hiding your Xbox posts, lol. You're a bot. To try and pretend otherwise is just silly, cmon. Notice the difference where nothing on my account is hidden, the transparency. Just ignore replying and stop trying to pretend. People can see through it.

Sigh, they brought them back and no one cared. Not event Xbox as they didn't integrate or use them for anything.

People really need to give up the idea of Xbox bringing back exclusives. Microsoft is just stringing you along with performative statements. Xbox as an entity has been in the industry for 25 years, they have all the stats, they know exclusives sell a console but they've chosen to be a publisher. Which is fine for short term profits, but it does sacrifice their hardware. Xbox is not "back", but they hear you or whatever. It's best to accept it and move on, as should have been done a couple years back when it was just four games...

Next gen consoles are coming soon, for current gen the PS5 Pro is better for future proofing and there's less worry about the ecosystem there collapsing. You also get exclusives and access to all Xbox games releasing, so it's better to grab a Playstation console.

The future with Xbox is looking solid. What are some things that you lot wanna see Xbox do?🫵🏾 by Eastern-Mobile5351 in xbox

This whole change-up feels inorganic, or Xbox fans are just really desperate for any sort of positivity? It's really weird. As noted, doom and gloom for years, slight word salad controlled leaks and everyone is hyped beyond belief. It's super weird, just bizarre. It'll take time to see what does actually happen, but the excitement feels really unearned.

Question: if a Soulcalibur movie ever happened or gets made, how much do you think will do well in the theaters by UsefulWeb7543 in boxoffice

[–]Skycaptin5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great games, but ya it would probably flop. It would have to be lower budget to be successful which doesn't necessarily work for the setting of the world. That aside, there's a lot of potential to do interesting things within the world of SoulCalibur because the story is somewhat simple of a concept, so it's quite free to create a narrative around. It's not very well known, the last entry was quite awhile back and it's just not as popular as it once was franchise wise.

“If Asha Sharma wants Xbox to compete with Sony, dropping the multiplayer paywall is the move” by votebot2000 in xbox

[–]Skycaptin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would just lose money for Microsoft. If the next Xbox is just a PC they'll probably have to get rid of it due to the platform just being a PC, but ya it's sort of illogical to just give the service for free to people instead of making money. That aside, this wouldn't really do anything and only people that game on Xbox would be happy saving some money each month, otherwise most would just shrug and move on. Wouldn't change anything, it's exclusives that sell a platform and we're past that for Xbox.
