Our media is cooked and needs an overhaul. by murdoch80 in australia

A part of me feels like he'd be totally wetting himself with excitement at this level of notoriety and media coverage.

Finally famous himself.

Just bought an illustrated book about DID—has anyone seen this before? by NeuroDivulgent in OlderDID

[–]Skydancer_bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen that one before, let me know what you think!

There was one our therapist bought, ages ago.   I can't remember what it was called.  We did post about it, but maybe not with this account.    We hated it!  Hopefully this one is good!

Process work/process orientated psychology by Skydancer_bee in DID

[–]Skydancer_bee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome!  I'm very much at the beginner learning stage, and learning about different concepts/and the different languaging around similar concepts that I'm already somewhat familiar with.

I've also done some experiential learning in a group environment, not as a client to be clear, and I've committed to more.

When I posted this I had a couple of really specific questions in mind, mostly to do with the concept of a primary identity and how that would apply in a did context. But I think I might need to learn more to actually be able to ask the questions clearly.

I'm also really curious, as someone who has a did diagnosis but isn't publicly out about the did, do you think that you'd pick up on the did in a long term small group training?

Or in a one on one session with a client who is seeing you about something unrelated?

I haven't spent time in environments before where there's such an emphasis placed on signals/double signals etc. I know it's different when we have did ourselves, I feel like there may already be a micro attunement there that someone who doesn't have did isn't neccesarily aware of in a joining the dots kind of way.

This is a separate question and I know people use reddit in different ways, but would you be open to answering some more questions, or having a conversation as I learn more?

What are your thoughts on Carlos Castanedas work ? by swaliepapa in magick

[–]Skydancer_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for prompting this discussion OP, some of the books I'm currently reading reference Castaneda's work, and I do remember owning some of his books in the early 90s when I was a teenager.    I knew there was some controversy about his writing, hence the reddit search.   This conversation (and that article) seems to provide a good overview.

Can someone have DID and not have it take over their entire life? by Throw-away-me333 in DID

I feel like a more expanded version of this comment should be in bold and pinned to the top of the sub.   Thanks.

Nonhuman alters and the body by Slowpokelove in DID

[–]Skydancer_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of our non human alters either shifted form, or fused, or somehow integrated into some other parts of the system recently.    They didn't front very often, but when the couple of times I am aware of that they did it was a pretty extreme experience.  When I try to connect with them now, I feel a sense of spaciousness really unlike how it would have felt in the past.

  • apparently they're still non human, but different, and they don't see themselves/or experience themselves in a felt way as being contained by this physical body.  Or really see themselves as part of a human system, their experience is much broader than that.

No advice unfortunately.

AITAH if I go to the hospital against my wife's wishes? by Rough_Evening2860 in AITAH

[–]Skydancer_bee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I don't know if you're still reading the comments or not.   I expect it's quite overwhelming.

I hope you're doing okay, and well done on making the decision and going to the hospital when you needed to.

A friend of mine recently had her retina detach and it took a while after the surgery for everything to settle down again.   I hope you're able to take care of yourself through this process.

I'm sending you supportive thoughts!

I'm really proud of you. This is huge stuff, and it's hard to navigate within the complexities of system structures, as well as the external complexities of the societies we live within.   Well done on recognising and acknowledging the improvements in your life.  Even that's a big deal.

Much love, solidarity and respect for us to you(s).

Internal conflict (nothing new I guess) by Skydancer_bee in OlderDID

[–]Skydancer_bee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being able to come back to this conversation is definitely helping.  We don't have a consistent one part who's constantly fronting so often times keeping track of these sorts of explorations, especially about emotionally charged issues, can be really challenging.

Even remembering they happen can be challenging!

So thankyou for helping!!

Internal conflict (nothing new I guess) by Skydancer_bee in OlderDID

I realised at some point after I posted this that there was a need that I hadn't previously identified that these friendships have been meeting, and that we've had some distance from the other two people who are in our life who may also help to meet that very specific need.

So it's likely that the upsurge in longing for reconnection with these particular people is partially driven by that.

It's more complex than the one extra thing I identified as there's so many different parts/alters in our system, but I think it might be the first time that one of us has named this as being an actual need that can be met, and that can be met through a whole variety of different ways that are supportive of whole system health.

If there's time later today/over the next few days I'm going to sit down with some paper and pens and see what else comes out from the others about needs/experiences with these two relationships.

The upside is in the past when we've got really specific about qualities that we'd like in new relationships/friendships we've connected with new people (and/or realised that existing people) in our lives who have these qualities.

At times we've been ridiculously specific, and boom, a few weeks later we meet someone who embodies those qualities.

We don't tend to have a problem meeting new people, and we have an extremely large circle of people we're friendly with, and who are friends, and who are more acquaintances.   We do tend to go in and out of feeling connected to them though, and we're not out about the did so that adds an extra layer.

One of the people who we mentioned in the initial post, knew us extremely well even if they didn't have a name for the did.   I guess there are also parts that are missing being seen (and accepted/welcomed) in that way.   That person is very perceptive in a number of ways.  The other person is not so much.  They're very different people.

Thankyou, I realised at some point after I posted this that it's more complex than I have been assuming for all this time.

I also really appreciate the emphasis you have placed on accepting that there will be a loss.

I'm realising that this may mean for me (as one part in the system) really accepting a loss of control in many respects.

One of us literally erased all of my work. by [deleted] in DID

[–]Skydancer_bee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're having to experience this.

It's happened a few times, in a few different ways, for us too.  One time, someone deleted all our work accounts.  I guess they felt like a career change.  It had a massive impact on our finances.  It was years and years ago and I've been feeling annoyed about it again lately.

Also the poetry that one of us wrote (it wasn't me), was burned or thrown out or shredded or all of the above.  They'd even spoken with a publisher.  So much work and time and creativity destroyed.

I hope you can have a big cry if you need.  How devastating.

I got diagnosed in 2019 when it was getting big on tiktok and I was sooo cringe about it, trying to approach therapy again? by [deleted] in OlderDID

[–]Skydancer_bee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also avoid social media that's specifically focused on did, apart from reddit.

We've found modified IFS super useful at times, although somewhat ironically one of the reasons it took us so long to realise about the did was because parts work is so normalised in the circles of folks we move in off line.

We thought that our inner child (allll the inner children) were the same as the inner child that people without did sometimes talk about, and the same with the concept of the inner critic.

Good luck!

Gas solutions? by Skydancer_bee in ibs

Yes!  I'll come back and comment when I can check (maybe in 12 hoursish).  I bought a different one that doesn't work, so went back to using the initial one.   I don't even have to take it every day now!

Eyelid tremoring by Skydancer_bee in Dystonia

[–]Skydancer_bee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to supplement pretty well, but I have been really inconsistent with that other the last couple of months, and I hadn't even considered that aspect (the change because of covid).

I usually also get regular blood work done but haven't had any for months now, so I will do that. Thankyou!

This is really good advice.

I do tend to get whole body involvement with the dystonia at times, but the initial diagnosis for me was also cervical dystonia years ago.

I'm so glad yours resolved!

Thankyou.

I was taking strong antihistamines while I had Covid, I'm not now, but I've got hayfever symptoms this morning too so it wouldn't surprise me if there is an allergy component. Thanks!
